I just had an argument with my mom on the phone about having a colonoscopy. I honestly don't want or care to have one and I really jumped my mom and gave her a piece of my mind. She finally dropped the subject and said if I get cancer don't say I wasn't warned. I said that's fine and from now on let me decide what to do with my life decisions. We kept talking about other things but this subject wasn't mentioned again. I'm not saying I won't do something different, but I just don't care to go through this crap. I might opt for a different kind of test. My younger brother had his done and that's fine but that doesn't mean I have to do it. I just wish family members would leave me the hell alone about the issue. I just honestly don't want to have a colonoscopy. It's that damn simple. Just my thoughts on the subject

You sound like my friend. He was having some problems, dark tarry stools, occasional constipation, but he refused to have a colonoscopy because he thought the idea of it was gross, even though his doctor strongly advised it. He started losing weight, and not feeling well. He eventually became miserably I’ll - so much pain as the cancer spread and nothing could be done.
He died of colon cancer 6 months later at age 42. That was 2 months ago.
I miss him. So does his wife and their three children.

Thank you so much. Wasn’t going to get one anyway. My dr had been pushing me to get one. I have no symptoms and I’m 72 years old. Had one 7 years ago (no problem found). Wasn’t due for one for another 10 years since the last one. Don’t want the prep or the anesthesia for all the reasons you said. Not looking for trouble. Thanks again. .

I agree. My father’s doctor had him do one each year and the last one he nicked his colon. It took 19 hours before they realized what had happened and wasn’t sure if they could save him. They wash out and rinsed all of his organ that they could. Unfortunately the real problems began and couldn’t save him.

I had my colonoscopy in July and I’ve never had digestive issues prior to this procedure but have had severe bloating, some nagging abdominal pain, comstipation/diarrhea and nausea since having the procedure. I’ve ruled out some of the other possibilities for these symptoms. Convinced the timing indicates it has something to do with this procedure. I steer clear of most medications but never imagined this preventative test could cause isssues.

    Im 72yo. Have no risk
    factors for CC.
    My doctor wants me to
    have a Colonoscopy; as
    I've never had one and
    I've had some digestive
    issues for a few months.
    I agreed to Cologard but
I'm finding it a liitle tricky to do because I
    poop very erratically.
    The whole issue seems
    to be a damned if I do;
damned if I don't kind of
    thing.
    I am so consistently dis-
    appointed with the medi-
    cal establishment in our
    country and I think it's
    time we take the profit
motive out of the sys -
    tem and put the empha-
sis on healing and cur -
    ing people as the #1
    goal.
It's nerve-wracking enough to be ill without
    making it a minefield of
    decisionmaking and
    indecision.

I just joined your program in hopes you can guide me on my diet. I've been dealing w/inflammation in the intestines for about a year. So far I did have the Fit test, Antibiotics stopped the rectal bleeding, nausea/vomiting. My biggest challenge is trial & error w/finding the best foods. Google recommended mashed potatoes, probiotics, prune juice & cream of wheat so I've added these to my diet. My hardest challenge is eating healthier but adding fruits, veggies & fibrous grains, which I luv, makes my stomach act up esp acidy foods. So how do I eat healthier? Literally recommendations were pasta, white bread, rice, potatoes basically carbs & fat. Every time I try to eat a healthier food my stomach acts up.

I personally know two (unrelated) people who have had colon cancer that was only diagnosed BECAUSE they went for the suggested colonoscopy at age 50. So I definitely know there is some positivity about colonoscopies, as well. I do have a question, though. If someone has already had a colonoscopy and had beginnings of polyps, would you still just recommend a FIT test, or would you follow up with another colonoscopy?

@@shamikafletcher4242 Typically the colonoscopy disrupts the gut enzymes and gut bacteria. Re-establishing this can really help. A simple first step is to use the greens powder which has probiotics, enzymes, and several other gut-healing nutrients. Advanced protocols can be done but this is a simple start. Hope that helps. store.drlivingood.com/products/livingood-daily-greens
