ekt is probably a new wave song from 1983/1984.
because you can hear:
vocals
synth (DX7?)
guitar
linn lm-2 (might be sampled)
guitar bass
you were right.....
you were 2/3 years off, impressive

guess we know the genre now....
I LOVE Italo Disco! I hope EKT is one of those!
More of a chance than city pop!
...........
I feel like those people who literally claimed EKT as city pop either have no idea what city pop actually is or never heard what Japanese sounds like in their lives. City pop was actually invented by idol producers who thought songs sung by underage girls with roland jazz templates on 80's pop music chords with indiscernible english lyrics would be a good idea and has nothing to do with actual Japanese new wave. Here's an example:
If your song is from a random obscure 80's collab: it's japanese new wave (yapoos, etc.).
If your song is sung by Creamy Mami: it's fucking city pop.
Listening recently on EKT, I hear much more instruments in the first half. So I have a feeling that the "You're counting all the sheets […] world of lies" part could be the chorus for the song, and the Everyone Knows It part could be the outro or something
Yeh true. It's confusing could the whole snippet could be just a verse too!
Someday will find it, someday
and it has been
Ever since I heard EKT, I always thought that the singer's vocals sounded almost identical to those of Max Coveri, artist of "Running in the 90s" who made multiple Italo Disco songs.
The problem is that Max Coveri is an alias that has been through four different artists. The Max Coveri who sung "Running in the 90s" is Maurizio De Jorio. The Italo Disco era stuff was either Mauro Farina or Massimo Brancaccio who died in 2005. (RIP)
(Theory) Mabye we look into Portuguese italo disco i dont know if Spanish tv during 1999 play Portuguese music espassly italo disco but u assuming it play on Spanish tv by how both country border each other
speaking of quebec. there is another song on watzatsong that has yet to be identified that has been given the title "just a game". the vocals on that song sound somewhat similar to those of jean marc pisapia of the band "the box" which is a band from quebec that get radio play quite frequently in canada but i dont think they have any fame outside of canada.
Someone pointed out that if you listen closely to the clip, you can hear Carl92 eating a chip. But, what if it’s not him eating the chip. What if the song was in a commercial for a company that makes chips and that sound was an actor eating a chip in the commercial.
Edit: this aged horribly
no.
I read a little bit about Italo-disco making its way to Canada - since EKT has the NTSC sound, it was likely taped from a Canadian television show and ended up in its present 17-second clip. The show could have been picked up by Spanish television , perhaps a more likely scenario is that someone copied the song to an internet music sharing program, finally ending up on Carl92's disc files. I'm a member of the EKT subreddit, too.
Bro this is it. I am Italian and I swear I had heard it somewhere. I think there might be a more popular song and Ulterior motives is a sample. Because I 100% heard the tune but not the lyrics.
Ok.
i think ekt is actually just a newwave rock from the 80s, it doesnt sound much out of ordinary from it
Ironically before I saw this video, I did a search for lost/dying genres in the 80s and euro disco, Italo disco, dance-pop and something else came up. And I’m currently investigating the italo-pop genre
Edit: I have not began looking thru Italian movies. Mostly romance horror
Such a wide genre, with SO MANY compilations on UA-cam... It's gonna take forever!
@@ybxrds I was thinking since italo pop was dying out in the beginning of the 80s that maybe instead of checking popular sources I should look for shows or bands that began to die out. Maybe a band had an album that wasn’t released due to italo pop not being popular and it’s just floating around somewhere. And also that leads me to think the lyrics might be Italian, but I’m not sure
@@kierstenmiller05 hey man, I'm from Italy and I'm 99% sure that the lyrics aren't Italian, they don't sound like it and I cannot decipher a word to be honest. ^^"
Hope this helps. :)
I don't know if this will be considered as a credible or possible lead to this song, but I believe I may be able to offer up a clue as to who the singer behind this song could possibly be, I believe this song may have originated from the popular 80s cartoon show JEM and the holograms a show of which I grew up watching as a kid. As I was conducting my own research I began to realize that this song sounds very familiar and the singer sounds very familiar to the Singer from JEM, so if I had to make an educated guess this song could of possibly appeared from an unaired pilot that somehow never got shown or from an unknown episode of the show. It's been a very long time since I have seen this show. Also the Singer and voice actress of JEM was Samantha Newark who is British and the singer on this song happens to somehow have a British accent. I could be wrong on this, but this is what am theorizing and hypothesizing at the moment. Hopefully were one step closer to figuring out this long awaited mystery. Until then I am going to stick with my theory.
The issue with the "unaired" episode theory is... How did Carl92 get their hands on it? That's what confuses me the most...
Samantha Newark was just the speaking voice for Jem, her singing voice was provided by Britta Philips.
Try to smile again has been identified as beatboy - bravely
Praying for the day it gets found
Random and irrelevant but I find your voice & accent very calming
i feel like the genre is Alternative or Pop, not the Sub Genre "City Pop", just "Pop" and if it isnt "Pop" or a sub genre of "Pop" its gotta be something similar or its an "Alternative" song, like "Alternative Pop" or something similar to "Alternative Pop" cause i feel like the full song has some sorta bass or lead guitar because the Tokyo City Pop songs ive heard usually have a lead or bass guitar in it, for example (recent ones on apple music ive found) "Yorokobi No Hi" by "SHE'S "Kinmokuseino Yoru" by "Kinoko Teikoku" and "Tokyo Girl" by "Perfume" all have some sort of lead or bass guitar in it, so these ai reconstructions are probably wrong if EKT is a Tokyo City Pop song with some english lyrics that just so happened to be recorded by carl. (edit) so i believe EKT is a Tokyo City Pop song
It kinda sounds like the singer has a Spanish accent
Yeh kinda!
how?
@@Deflect-fteod2 what do you mean how
Look at a spanish band called souvenir. (Souvenir - sinking stone)
Hi, 🤓 I’ve been studying and listening to the genre for a couple of years and I have some thoughts. Note that this isn’t to discourage searching in this genre, but simply to add context and information so we can be as accurate as we can be.
-Italo-disco and songs grouped with Italo-disco in the Americas usually are known as Hi-NRG. This was to avoid the negative connotations associated with disco following 1979. Good example, Living on Video by Trans-X.
-Likewise, Italo-disco is too narrow of a term and those made in places like Germany or the UK are usually known as Euro-disco.
-Italo-disco artists tend to use aliases to hide their actual names. Some even use dozens of them and even share them. For example, Danny Keith, Radiorama, and Max Coveri were used by different singers including Mauro Farina, Marco Bresciani, Gianni Coraini, and various others.
-Those who make actual Italo-disco tend to have a very thick accent. Even those who make the Spanish variant known as “Sabadell sound.”
-Italo-disco and related genres have a very distinctive rhythm pattern and chord progression that doesn’t sound like EKT. Italo-disco and its related genres always use 4 on the floor and EKT uses syncopated rhythm commonly found in funk and R&B.
I asked Ai on Snapchat and it keeps telling me it’s by somone Named Irgun. I asked it the name and told it the lyrics and it keeps telling me it’s by Irgun. But when I try to look up Irgun I can’t find him. AI answers me when I ask it questions abt him tho. I even asked if other popular songs by him and it listed some but I can’t find them when I try searching for them online.
Ai described Irguns music as “a blend of alternative rock with catchy melodies and introspective lyrics”

asking my nonna (from italy, pretty much only listens to italian music) if she heard ekt tomorrow!! i’ll update you guys
Anything?

The main issue is that EKT doesn’t actually sound anything like an Italodisco record.
The EKT Reddit mods are the most power hungry on the internet, I’ve given up looking at the Reddit.
Genres I think it is are synth pop/New Wave, jangle pop, post disco
post disco sounds interesting... gonna look it up!
The band from canada coming into spain tv doesnt make sense, as Camspiracy found a page about him that he lives in Canada.
What anime are the cutscenes u used
Ikr
Some of them are Akira
i found a website of songs that sound very similar to ekt
What is the website?
The singer from ekt sounds like the singer from Culture Club I don't know may just be me because I've been listening to the songs too much
Yehhh it's got that same cadence... Its just the accent that makes me think otherwise
@@ybxrds yeah same
Finally someone else agrees. I thought ekt was italo disco since i first heard it
Yooo is that THE tonystpierre?!?!

Future me, does he mention the new lead of the guy that knows abt the song?
NOPE.

What do you mean?
@@cat1554 theres a lead going around abt this guy that knows the song and confirms its Italian lol

Lol imagine ekt was just a song from a movie
OMG, I SUGGESTED THAT MODERN TALKING WAS THE BAND BEFORE
YESS
What if you did a live stream where you looked for everyone knows that and read comments
Soon 💯
There's just one problem... Modern Talking wasn't Italo Disko, it was Eurodisko. Maybe that's the same, but for me they sound extremely different. Modern Talking has nothing to do with Italo Disko.
