My doctor gave my wife a prescription (*for me ) that stated. "Jay needs to have 1 glass of bourbon and 1 cigar after work (and the kids need to leave him alone for 30 minutes)". This was to help lower my blood pressure. :)
Hey it's my 21st birthday today, ( virgo's unite) so i will finally get to try whisk(e)y for the first time. I feel like today is going to be a painful experience.
Bastardizing people in the channel and at the distillery is one of my favorite things about the tribe. I especially like the crickets for a rep, making it awkward and such. That really makes me chuckle.
Man I've been waiting for this one... so glad Daniel had the same reaction as I did! It was hard to get through that bottle lol. But you guys are spot on, it's a mixer for sure.
Hello you beautiful MBs. I'm a family medicine doctor responding to the story about less veg/more booze. Leafy greens are high in vitamin K, which interferes with the blood thinner Warfarin (Coumadin), and it is common for doctors to recommend decreasing, or at least being consistent with daily leafy greens. However, unfortunately, I've never heard any recommendations for increasing distilled spirits for any condition. However again, there is good evidence that drinking one to two standard drinks per day of any type (beer, wine, liquor) decreases risk of heart disease. Enjoy in moderation for a long, magnificent life. Slàinte Mhath!
I'm 49 and grew up in the upper Midwest USA. In the 1980's we considered fancy/high end Scotch to be Johnnie Walker Black, Chivas Regal, and Dewars white label. Crazy/insane priced Scotch was Glenfiddich.
After going to Kentucky we were able to find the oak and eden rye and wish I had brought more than one back to MN since it is as of now my favorite rye.
If the Oak and Eden Rahr continue to evolve n the bottle with the wood spiral in it and at some point it becomes overly oaked, do they put a "best consumed by" date on it? I've seen the spirals or small wood planks available on Amazon and have been thinking about experimenting with them for academic purposes.
SO the trick with the Oak and Eden is to taste it every now and then until you really like it, then pour it into a decanter, get rid of the stick, then pour it back in?
Is there a reason for keeping the wood spiral in the bottle much longer after opening it? If you're not going to finish the bottle right away, at what point would it be best to pull the spiral out? And, CAN you pull it out without breaking it into little pieces?
On the two Oak and Eden's. I actually enjoyed both of them quite a bit too. I also hate ipa's. The fact that it was an accent piece on the rye made it great. The scotch ale bourbon was also very good. Glad to hear you guys food the ipa accent piece nice instead of usual hoppy beer whiskey most people make which i don't like. Great review. I wish Costco did sell whiskey here though. Silly Texas laws.
For the price I bought 2 of the Kirkland Blended Scotch for 20dollars a bottle. It's great if you want something effortless and sweet. I drink it neat. I like it. Not love but like. Recommend it if you can get your hands on it. I want to try the 20 year next
You buy this to make whiskey and cokes , old fashioneds , irish up your coffee and so on . No ones pouring it in a sifter and slow sipping it. For the money I love this stuff. It beats Jim or Jack as a mixer imo
In today's episode, Daniel once again brings music into the vault. We learn about what a bad 1.75 handle is, even at a great price. We also learn that Daniel is still and always will be a book worm and music dork too. Finally we realize that Daniel can clearly be bought by Whiskey Reps as long as you are one in Texas who gives him free whiskey. ;)
I keep a few bottles of that cheap Kirkland scotch for when I want to tie one on. I never drink more than 4 fingers of the good stuff. Noone even notices when I swap out the good stuff for this after they have a bit of a buzz (until they see the bottle)
In the mid to late 70's I was drinking Dewars White Label and soda. I was in or post college and very frugal. I can't imagine that the Dewars was "top shelf".
First?!? LOL! I really think the Kirkland products are "good enough" for daily drinking without breaking the bank. My pallet isn't nearly as developed as most whisky aficionados (some days I'm thankful for that) and these Kirkland juices keep me satisfied.
My name is Jonathan Cunningham. I’m the bar manager at Husk Greenville. Just wanted to tell reach out and invite you guys to come by the bar if you ever make it it to this side of the country. I appreciate your channel so much and rely on you guys heavily for information and recommendations. In a couple of days mackmyra is releasing the first AI created whisky. Its done in collab with microsoft and some othet finish company. The whisky is called "Mackmyra intelligens" would be fun if you guys tried it out.
I can get Cutty Sark 1.75L for about the same price as that Costco if I drive across the border to Delaware, otherwise it's about $31 in PA. Prices state to state are strange though. So in PA they have Grants, Cutty, and Ballantine all at the same price point. The Famous Grouse is like $10 dollars more. In Delaware it's the opposite. Grants, Cutty, and The Famous Grouse are all the same price, and Ballantines is about $10 dollars more. I like watching this channel even though I only drink budget whiskey, I wouldn't stoop to Kirkland Scotch but I frequently purchase Cutty and drink it neat and enjoy it for what it is. If I'm going to drop money on booze I would rather buy a mid-grade bourbon like Russell's Reserve or Makers 46
Agreed! For the 17.99 I can get it for, its a great cocktail scotch or (if I have nothing else) straight. Is it the best, no. But for the price you can't get much better, IMO.
I'm about to do a Fantastic Mr. Fox movie night (It's the 10 year anniversary) with Alcoholic Cider (or applejack) and Mrs. Bean's famous Apple Ginger-snaps
I like a few different scotches so I tried the Kirkland. I mean for the price you can't really be unhappy. I'm wondering if I should ask my bourbon friends to try this as an entry-level scotch?
Robert Tonkinson Clan McGregor is one I feel the need to revisit. That (and Jack) was the only whiskey I ever drank in college, and I don’t have fond memories of it. The guys reviewed it on here in the last year and reminded me of it
Jon Clark I’ve only had clan Mac Gregor once at a bar. I think it had gone flat from being open too long though. For a few bucks more I think grants family reserve is probably a little better; better that Cutty too imo
Funk is usually a vague but intense flavor/smell that is usually hard to pinpoint. Each kind of spirit can have its own version of funk and once you get familiar with a particular spirit you'll begin to recognize it. It's sort of a love/hate thing for most people. I don't think anyone wants their whisky to taste like stale beer and floor though lol. Bourbon can have an intense corn funk, like George Dickel; I know it's TN whiskey, and rum can have an intense banana bread ripe fruit funk. I'm not familiar enough with scotch to understand malt funk, but I was thinking it might be like a sweet cereal grain thing, like kids breakfast cereal smell
So I just had my first experience with a food vastly changing a whiskey. I was drinking some of this Kirkland Scotch when I had a crazing for some chocolate. So I break off a piece of dark chocolate and really savor that. My sweet tooth now satiated, I go back for some more of the scotch. HOLY HELL WAS IT DISGUSTING!!! It tasted somewhere between the $10 handles of vodka we would drink in college and drinking straight nail polish remover. It removed any hint of anything that could be considered a nice flavor. I'm sitting here half an hour later and its only just finally going back to normal.
I'm surprised to hear that you think Cutty Sark is better than Kirkland. I've never tried Kirkland, but a few years ago I got a large bottle of Cutty Sark and, maybe it was a bad bottle, but I couldn't stand it. It didn't taste at all like scotch to me, or really any whiskey I've ever had for that matter. Though I prefer single malts, I will drink just about anything, and since I'm poor I've bought a lot blends--even Dewar's. =D But I had to make a lot of whiskey sours til that bottle of Cutty was gone. Incidentally, I just opened a bottle of Duggan's Dew for about the same price point as the Kirkland's and I find it to be a decent little blend, though nothing super special. And as a bonus it's bottled at 43.4 percent.
My mother was a long time member of AA her doctor for her heart recommended wine. Once I asked why she kept going to him her reply was "He thinks he's so smart. He's a dumb as I just know that amuses me.
I will have to disagree Daniel, I enjoy Monkey shoulder quite a bit but I basically gave away the Kirklands blended. Hated it - $30 for that bottle and would not do it again.
Am I the only one with his jaw on the floor? Daniel just drank his kryponite (rye infused with a hoppy IPA) and he liked it?! What is the world coming to?
My doctor gave my wife a prescription (*for me ) that stated. "Jay needs to have 1 glass of bourbon and 1 cigar after work (and the kids need to leave him alone for 30 minutes)". This was to help lower my blood pressure. :)
Hey MBs! It's my 22nd birthday today and my dad bought me a bottle of Lagavulin 16, hallelujah!
T_ RoseyGaming you have a nice dad IMO Congrats to your Birthday, mine is tomorrow
I'm a bit envious. My dad doesn't drink; cause of mom, so I can't nerd out with dad about whiskey stuff. Happy birthday
Happy birthday my friend! 22 today also! Also GBR!!
congrats!!

Kirkland is only $17 here in Colorado 🤷🏻♂️😂
Since the wood keeps modifying the flavors of Oak and Eden, have you thought of decanting to glass at different times to see what happens?
On the two Oak and Eden's. I actually enjoyed both of them quite a bit too. I also hate ipa's. The fact that it was an accent piece on the rye made it great. What is that charcoal gray can that says WHISKEY in the background?
That sip by Daniel! It looked like it wrecked his day.
So.... Daniel just served Rex a new way to mess with him on a silver platter. Who guesses that Rex begins messing with the cadence of the toast?
nathan huey one hundred percent just start putting it off by a second or two, lol
Funky, huh? I was born and raised on the farm. I LIKE funky things! 😉
My question is does the oak and Eden continue to change as it sits there?

Daniel, Mead is not hard to find anymore and if you can't find it, it is easy to make. It is a wonderful beverage for the right occasion.
First?!? LOL! I really think the Kirkland products are "good enough" for daily drinking without breaking the bank. My pallet isn't nearly as developed as most whisky aficionados (some days I'm thankful for that) and these Kirkland juices keep me satisfied.
They liked some of the other Kirklands, quite a bit. This one, not sure how different; batch I guess was a bust.
What's the name of the book? I'd love to join Daniel's Book Club
The crowded barrel should look into making a Rye finished in an IPA barrel. It's the pinnacle of hipster whiskey. You can call it the "Top Knot"
Best line in the video. "I'm getting creamy"

Now available in glorious 4k!
In Colorado the Costco blended scotch goes for 17.99 for the 1.75L
In LA at Mission Wine, we can find Ballantine’s Finest 1.75L under $20 which is definitely a better drum than Kirkland ;)
2:10 LOL....all I needed to see (but, of course, I will watch the rest of the video.......) ETA: so glad I kept watching!
P.S. How THE HELL is that bottle of Hibiki Harmony behind Daniel still so full!?!?!?!

I am actually about to finish the bottle of that

Rahrs & Sons beer is my local go-to beer.
I'm reading a book published in the 80s...... Let the man start his story
I'm poor and I drink fancy scotch. What was the name of the book?
I'm about to do a Fantastic Mr. Fox movie night (It's the 10 year anniversary) with Alcoholic Cider (or applejack) and Mrs. Bean's famous Apple Ginger-snaps
Borink, love it.
The renegades of funk! That’s the next big thing!
Rex interrupting Daniel to continue the review of the whisky seems to be a role reversal.
I was hoping Rex would alter his cadence at the end to see if it would throw Daniel off.. :)
Put it in the decanter for guests.
I like a few different scotches so I tried the Kirkland. I mean for the price you can't really be unhappy. I'm wondering if I should ask my bourbon friends to try this as an entry-level scotch?
i enjoy bourbon the most, and I dislike this scotch I just purchased...
$22! Is that better than clan Macgregor? (About the same price here)

Twelve is terrible just like it’s owner mcgregor
Erik Wait did the "he likes the funk" first on one of his reviews.
I make mead. How do I send y'all a bottle
Whoa whoa whoa! You can't buy 1.75L bottles in Texas? Did I hear that right? Please confirm!
We can!
Rex: I'm getting creamy
HOW ARE WE NOT DOING PHRASING ANYMORE?
By "malt funk" are you referring to that stale beer / pub floor flavor?
Funk is usually a vague but intense flavor/smell that is usually hard to pinpoint. I watch YELLOWSTONE with a glass of bourbon every time......I become involved, cheers
Kirkland blended vs JW red label?
Red label better with soda water/seltzer. Kirkland can't handle the dilution.
Rex should have messed with the Daniel by doing a different rythm
At my costco it is $17.99. It is easy and lazy drink for cheap

Black magic
360p? Haha, great episode, though.
try opening a theater where you show old movies with the appropriate beverage.
Rex "I'm getting creamy"..... Me.... "Eeeewww"....
The kidney doctor was actually s liver transplant specialist who was trying to drum up business.
Do the Glen Fohdry 21!!! I see it next daniels bald head😬
Drinking Canadian when you are watching anything with Michael Cera
Cutty Sark is $25 per 1.75 ltr by me.
Ha. Called it!
rex: How big of a bag a bag of money did he give you?
The Hobbit: It was just a small chest, hardly overflowing... And it still smells of troll.
"No, my kids go to school." :ded:
It's LMNO my dear Watson.
That's a bouldering-grip handle right there... also, Rex... why did you go full Milton in your awkward rep'ing... never go full Milton
Thanks UA-cam waiting two minutes to notify me 🤦🏻♂️
Write them an angry letter! :P
Current pricing is 17.99 And it’s not bad😉
My mother was a long time member of AA her doctor for her heart recommended wine. Once I asked why she kept going to him her reply was "He thinks he's so smart. He's a dumb as I just know that amuses me.
The videos are getting a little choppy Gents. More Zack, more Zack!
I absolutely hated Kirkland blended scotch. It stayed in my pantry for a year until I got desperate.
Does anybody ever steal your toast saying heres to fighting stealing etc?
no1 else gonna mention the poor resolution? Only option is 360p. Some1 screwed up.
If the Costco near me sold booze, I prob wouldnt have let my membership lapse.
I will have to disagree Daniel, I enjoy Monkey shoulder quite a bit but I basically gave away the Kirklands blended. Hated it - $30 for that bottle and would not do it again.
Rex “ I’m getting creamy “ 🥃
Make my funk the P funk baby!
Hey Rex. I'm getting creamy too. 😉
Wow early for once!
These are $17 at my Costco and you just cant go wrong throwing it in coke
Am I the only one with his jaw on the floor? Daniel just drank his kryponite (rye infused with a hoppy IPA) and he liked it?! What is the world coming to?
LOL, I dont know how long I though there was a letter elemeno in the alphabet... Got to love dyslexia!!!
360p magnificent bastards. Welcome
The people complaining about 360p need to be sent back in time to watch a 19 inch tube television from across the room.
I LOVE monkey shoulder but I feel like I won’t like this xD
LOL Brutal
