I have stopped purchasing from Chanel for a few years now. Their aesthetics no longer strike me as classic, and I can’t be bothered to worry about their quality issues… happy with my four flap bags. I do wish they would deliver better quality products across the board.. luxury is all in the quality details, IMO. I feel sometimes consumers make excuses to accept the faulty details just to own a Chanel. However, for me the brand doesn’t carry the same weight as before, no matter how high the price tag may be.
I have to say, there are a few things I really think are classics, that I would love to have, but generally though I think the stuff is quite lackluster
Well said! Sounds like the people who is buying these bags have literally no taste as they are emerging class and just to get a Chanel item, they buy whatever …
I have the small in black and since watching Romina and Dacob’s videos, I took mine out of the closet and began using her every day just to see how it would wear. Like yours, I have no issues thus far. My stitches also run over the edge to where the chains rub over them but there’s no wear whatsoever yet. Like you said, I have enjoyed using mine everyday as it really is super easy! Thank you for sharing your update.
I'm so pleased to hear that your bag isn't showing any adverse signs of either wear or bad workmanship. I do believe that the high quality standards Chanel were renowned for, has slipped a little. My grandma had two Chanel purses that, had you felt/held, are very different to today's purses - even down to the hardware! But, I suppose, everything was much different back then. Much love 🧡💜🧡
I have been thinking of buying this bag for a year and longer..I saw so many bad reviews that it made me so scared of buying it. So many people say the leather wears off fast and it scares me a lot. Now I saw your review and I am again thinking of buying it.😊
Michele, I have also found that the way bags are treated with colors makes a difference. If bags are drum dyed with color, they tend to not wear as badly as opposed to spray painted. Hopefully the Chanel bags are drum dyed. I own both types and the spray painted bags do not hold up as well. I have donated all of my spray-painted bags.
So glad to hear your bag is fine - I made a follow-up video as well that shows the damage on other bags including the caramel colour. Definitely keep us updated how your bag is wearing a couple months down the line!! 🤗❤️ Xx
It's essentially a drawstring bag and drawstring do have weak points due to its function. The constant weight, pulling and rubbing of that chain will eventually cause the leather to wear. It's too soft a material to be a drawstring I'm suprised Chanel released this style of handbag, seeing as how they are a classic brand..its giving very moschino, which I do LOVE but Chanel and Moschino are two very different tastes. I really dont think Chanel will be keeping her as a staple and I see this one flooding the resell markets.
That's what I've been saying. It's just a bad design for the type of materials and price. The drawstring design with the heavy chains and heavy leather is bound to wear the bag no matter how little you carry in it. And it's a handbag, you should be able to carry a decent amount and not have to worry. I don't want to yuck anyone's yum, but this bag design is terrible. I don't get what people see in it. It reminds me of a dust bag that an actual bag come in. Just a drawstring sack. It's a big ol' shrug from me.
Thank you Michelle for your video. I bought the metallic blue 22 bag, and I have no issues. I love using it. I have to say it’s heartbreaking to hear much negativity about the 22 bag, especially if you own it... this is why I found your video refreshing.... thank you again....
I don’t buy Chanel bags as they’ve rarely appealed to me but I have had quality issues with high end bags. First a Chloe that became discolored unused! Net-a-porter gave me credit for it almost a year after I bought it. I also had 2 Valentino bags where the handles peeled apart. The Valentinos were due to the soft thin leather. I have too many Valentino bags and the others are all beautifully made. Valentino replaced the first bag but the replacement also ended up having the same issue. They seem to have discontinued the style now.
I think it depends on whether the person carries heavy stuff. The heavier the bag, the more pressure against the leather when the chain is rubbing against it as the person moves and walks. For most bags, the strap is attached to a ring which is affixed to the bag, that helps distribute the weight. For this bag, it’s just the chain pulling against the leather to support the bag. I think you can tighten/loosen the bag a little, like a drawstring mechanism. If you constantly tighten or loosen the chain drawstring, the chain rubs more against the leather, scratching or misshaping it.
Not necessarily true though. Super Dacob wore his for not more than 30 minutes to the supermarket with very minimal stuff in his bag and it was falling apart on him. And the paint on the leather rubbed off on his shirt. He was just making a quick trip to the store. Not to the beach with all the junk to carry. And It was a less than a week when he purchased his bag. Keep in mind, we’re talking about $5,000 to $7,000 dollar bag. Not some cheap bag you guy at Forever 21. The leather bag is thick and sturdy with strength consistency and quality. They are designed to withstand good amount of weight and wear. That being said, If you’re going to splurge an arm and leg, and people that are buying luxury for that price should expect high quality. Not some BS quality with bags falling apart in matter of hours and days after purchase. It’s Chanel hello!
@@accesstotheredcarpet Then it may be a quality and design issue. I’m thinking of their Holiday set which was thoroughly ridiculed for being expensive (about $900) but having poor quality.
It must be so upsetting if your high end bag falls apart in short period of time. On the other hand, your Chanel bag looks so pretty and love the color which is so versatile❤️
I suspect that the drawstring design really doesn’t work for more treated leathers (metallized on seems less malleable than yours). Super Dacobs might be painted differently since it does have a much brighter color and is shinier so it’s more treated than the black or beige. I’ve heard it’s happening on the original models, but it seems to be the more treated leathers that are having the most problems. I do wonder if it would have been better to have some kinda of cloth in the loop to protect the leather more.
Your video brings such a mental relief to me 🙏 I have the same bag, haven’t used mine and past the 30 day. The videos fret me as mine has the edge stitching. After watching the videos I took the effort to wrap the chain inside and near the corners with tissue paper. Probably the size makes a difference like you noted and the weight also.
Your 22 is the color I want! Yeah, the issue is in the dye process. I wouldn't get the bag in the saturated color that Dacob had and I would never get a metallic or patent bag. But that gal that wore the black 22, ruined her dress from the horrendous paint rubbing on her shoulder... I was shocked!
I bought this bag today, looked to UA-cam and now I am horrified about my bag might be faulty. It is little relief that not all people have drama with the bag. Hope mine will be good
Quality of designer items is no where near what it should be for the price. I bought a Chanel wallet about 15 years ago and within the first few weeks it buckled and Chanel exchanged it and it happened again and they would not change it or get it fixed for me at all. I get a Prada one soon after and it has never been an issue and I’ve been using it since.
Hmmm. Quality control issues maybe? Yours does seem well made and you are not loading it up and stressing it. My designer bags seem to last forever but mostly because I have so many purses, no one purse is over-used, who knows.
No , not really into super-branded luxury handbags that cost the earth . I prefer less known, very well made bags, that have style but don't break the bank. Have worked in fashion all my life, and appreciate the smaller vintage Chanel classic bags but one is enough. A lot of the Chanel bags look matronly (to me of course) and when paired with a fun COS dress...eeeeehhh...not so fun anymore... just .very. luxury. Mall. ladies. who. shop. Michele , I love to watch your videos for your smart, savvy, stylish, intelligent self with a great sense of humour Just love the lifestyle Mich-mas series and the "best of" videos...But lately there's a feeling of makeup over-over-consumption, having to have each and every colour in a line when you won't use them. and have to throw them away in a year or 2...The makeup info on new products coming out is priceless and done in an intelligent, informative way that I very much appreciate..but you don't need to keep or buy everything...life is too just too dam* short..... my personal feeling only of course
It’s such a shame that Chanel produced a bag that doesn’t wear well for some. I don’t use designer bags anymore because I’m pretty rough with my purses. The last one I bought was maybe 15 years ago (Coach) which has broken in nicely due to thick leather. Glad your Chanel 22 bag isn’t showing signs of wear!
You should check out Fashion Influencer Sophie Shohet's channel. She's been very discouraged with Chanel, claiming they are upping the prices but not the quality we used to enjoy. Quite thought provoking actually. I have several vintage Chanel bags and they still look brand new, extremely well made and I don't think I'll bother purchasing any new ones.
Hi Michelle, just stumbled on your post today and can I just say I love how you're rocking your salt and pepper hair. That's bold and refreshing to see but also that you actually look good and still youthful! I haven't coloured my hair since pregnant with my first baby over a dozen years ago and was wondering if I should continue to stick to my mildly grey hair and then found you! Inspiring! 😙
I nearly bought one in caramel as well but changed my mind after I saw so many videos about issues with this bag. Somehow, I didn’t regret either not getting it considering Chanel’s quality has gone downhill. But glad to see yours hold up nicely. It’s a nice colour 😍
Sorry to hear this type of Chanel bag is not wearing well. I bought a white Chanel 19 bag in May and absolutely loving it. No unusual wearing. I’m going to stay away from the metallic leather. Thank you for such a great informative video.
Chanel has some sales savvy with this bag. This bag is a one-season bag, looking it’s best new. I could see that the first time I saw the bag, it’s not a workhorse staple. The one-season look is the real status aspect of it, who can afford to buy a Chanel that looks good for one year? That’s the financial distinction between people who save and save to buy one classic flap, versus a person who can just go buy a new one every few months.
Great video! However, I don’t believe your bag is the small size, according to the alignment, it definitely looks like the medium. I have the same one🥰🥰🥰
Great video! I’m so glad yours is ok! I’ve had a mixed bag of reports from people who own this bag -some have had issues while some haven’t. Mine is not too bad. I do have some tiny spots of scuffing. But, it’s exactly what I suspected and what you’ve explained - anything treated or coated will perhaps peel or scuff. Versus leathers that are dyed through. I think it’s great that we post our updates so that people can make an informed decision. The caramel 22 is so nice! I got to try it on and was tempted. But I’ve already got a medium coral pink and I love it for summer! There is speculation that perhaps this may not be full leather, but I hope that isn’t the case. I’m still tempted by the black 🫣
The chain pulls it too hard where you are talking about. It will wear it down, and Pull. also it will crack. It’s to play around with leather (way back my friend made purses, shoes ) she worked with Italian leather and some other brand. I know it will wear. Just fun Even the corners on the bottom
This is why im way to scared to ever buy this expensive of a handbag. I have purchased a few of what I would call moderately expensive (~400) and had one (coach) have tons of quality issues. Returned. Same issues. Wearing away of leather. Discoloration. Etc. they dont care at all. Suggested I spend more on a different kind of leather bag they had. Nope! I know stick to more basic sturdy styles from moderately priced brands. Its sad that even luxury companies have this problem and it keeps me from considering their products. I hope they make it right for those w problem bags.
this shows that some time designers even high end are not much better quality than a marc jacobs or ted baker you pay alot for the brand the logo. to me then it is not worth the money. some companies are doing much better i recently got a prada bag and love it but chanel is probably being made in china shipped back to italy or paris where they stamp the logo and hardware and then sell it after that saying being made in italy. common sence but i guess if you are not rich you can tell these things.
I just look now at Chanel now but stopped buying about 9 months or so ago. The quality is just so bad for the price, it's an embarrassment to pay so much for bad quality products. I want to put money into quality and Chanel lost me.
Chanel 22 looks like a garbage bag to me! I couldn’t believe that Chanel would come out with such a ugly bag, I owe some Chanel bags and I love them. Over the years Chanel’s craftsmanship and quality has changed dramatically in a bad way.
Go to Super Dacob UA-cam if y’all haven’t already. He covered a lot about this. He had the same bag that was falling apart and on his UA-cam he invited 3 panelists in the discussions about Chanel 22 bag. One girl is a larger specialist expert. Go check it out please.

The wearing may come from using close to the body, rubbing…Chanel’s quality is not good despite their rapid price increases…

The two people she mentioned had keys and glasses only in it. It's really sad, Forever 21 fast fashion bags hold up better than some of these bags.

The worse the quality gets.. the more they raise the prices. 😨 FENDI and DIOR has better quality and craftsmenship.

Go to Super Dacob UA-cam if y’all haven’t already. He covered a lot about this. He had the same bag that was falling apart and on his UA-cam he invited 3 panelists in the discussions about Chanel 22 bag. One girl is a larger specialist expert. Go check it out please.
