Hi Emily, I’m a tech recruiter and have gotten very interested in salesforce. I came across a video talking about freelancing as an admin. How does that differ from freelancing as a consultant?

Hey! There isn't much difference between the two versions of freelancing! It would just be the skills you would be advertising/selling. If you are freelancing as an admin it would be for admin tasks/project. If you were freelancing as a consultant it might be more in depth of the discovery process and delivering on a larger project.
Each of these skills will come at a different pay scale depending on the project and how difficult the skills are associated with the project. Someone who is an admin will generally make less per hour consulting than a developer will.

@@salesforceemily Gotcha! The video I saw was from another channel called “Salesforce for everyone”. This video was promoting freelance work due to the high earning potential, and even mentioned having earned $32,000 in a month, with an average $20,000 per month. In your opinion, does this sound realistic for admin work?

I'm familiar with the channel. It REALLY depends on the type of work and how many clients they have. Personally, I think that this is not realistic for just vanilla admin work. The market is pretty saturated for that and would take a long time to build up to this if possible.
Those earnings are more indicative of someone who specializes in a high earning sector of salesforce like CPQ, heavy duty architecture, development, complex experiences, etc.

Hey Emily, how did you get your first client without experience?

A few things to this. One it was a largely different climate for freelancing than it is today. So a lot of my strategy focused around showing/explaining how different projects I've completed in trailhead or in my personal study can relate directly to what their need is on the platform.
The second biggest hurdle for me was pricing. I had to low ball some of my first clients on pricing before I was able to raise pricing to where I thought was fair market value. I think pricing was the biggest deal for me in the beginning.
I also subcontracted for a while with another consultant and was able to land a few clients through that avenue that that consultant was either too busy for or the project was just in maintenance mode.
