  • Here is my take on the Fosi Audio DS2 Dongle Dac. They use 2 x CS43131 Dac's and this seems to be a revised model as it used to use the ESS9018K2M Dac.

    Nice video vortex!
    Crazy how powerful dongle DAC has gotten.

      Cheers! I agree with you on that. I have the KA11 to review next which is one you already tried. The app is trash from my testing so far and I might not do the firmware update.

    Seems like a good upgrade. I have the DS1 and it gets really hot at higher bits and sampling rates.

      Are you happy with the DS1 though?

      Maybe Fosi can send you the DS1 to try?
      It's ok, but I don't use it that much. Got it about a year and a half ago to use with the phone and planar IEMs but it turns out that I prefer the more laid-back dongles with them.
      Moved it to the laptop, but it started getting really hot. Solved the problem by lowering the bit/sample rates, but didn't feel comfortable leaving it plugged in. Still use it when I want to hear the extra bit of detail it provides vs my other dongles.
      Ordered the Moondrop Dawn pro last week to compare. It hasn't arrived yet.
      Maybe the DS2 could have been a better option. Found out about it today when I watched your video.
      Other than having more power how do the DS2 and the Moondrop Dawn Pro compare?
      Thanks

      @@m_yy_m I likely won't be trying the DS1 as most companies only send the "latest" product. Dawn Pro has less power but it has filter options and the LED can be turned on / off. Sound wise I like them both and I find them detailed but to be honest I rarely use the Dawn Pro as I have a Topping desktop combo.

      The Dawn Pro was on sale for $35. At that price it seemed worth trying.
      Thanks 👍

    Hi, great review= new subscriber!!
    I’m an old newbie ! Recently got back into Hifi but this dac business is new to me….. is there any reason that I couldn’t use the DS2 as a dac for iPhone into a home Hifi? Presumably using a 4.4mm Jack to RCA ? Assuming that works, how would the volume controls on the dac affect said amp? (Cyrus 5)Would I blow something up if it’s set too loud? I’m middle aged and confused 😂

      Thanks very much I think you are referring to bi-amping. Does the amp have a optical input?

    IMO there isn't much of a point to desktop amps anymore with how powerful dongle DAC/amps have gotten.

      Kind of. It depends on the headphone but easy to drive headphones are fine with something like this.

    Al cambiar los dos chip hay alguna diferencia en sonido analógico comparado a la version anterior?.

      I presume so but I never tried the previous model.

    DS2 vs allegro cual suena mas realista en instrumentos y vocal aunque sea poco?.

    • @VortexReviews1
      @VortexReviews1  3 місяці тому

      Possibly the DS2 but not by much. They are both good dongles.

    Entonces si nunca probó el anterior ¿es más analogíco este o Allegro?.

    • @VortexReviews1
      @VortexReviews1  3 місяці тому

      Maybe the Allegro is more analytical sounding.

    So ds2 have 2 ver?. I ever checked it, its spec used ess chip with 250mw 32ohm. Idk there are ver like this

    • @VortexReviews1
      @VortexReviews1  4 місяці тому

      The ESS seems to be the previous version. Seems to be a silent revision. The previous version also had 510mw at 32 ohms.

    The volume buttons are independent from host?

      This has independent volume control. Did I forget to mention it in the video?
