I've been dreaming about this game for about 2 years or so...and FINALLY just now pulled the trigger on picking up a bunch of pieces. My mom plans on jumping into the game with me (so cool!) so I'm pretty excited about it...I can't wait to have this hobby to share with my mom. Anyhow, I just blindly picked up pieces I thought looked cool and/or fun. lol I know it was probably rather dumb to do so...and really impulsive (I didn't watch any reviews on the individual ships before the purchase)...but I think I did well. I just wanted to make sure we each had a core set, medium figure, large figure, and several small figures. We'll be playing strictly casual games...so I'm not worried about trying to make the absolute best squads out there...I'd far rather play with weaker pilots and figures if it means I'll have fun. So I wanted a variety of figures to start out. Anyhow, here's what I picked up: 1x Original Core Set 1x The Force Awakens Core Set Rebels (me): -Millennium Falcon -K-Wing -2 X-Wings (from the core sets) -Imperial Aces (A-Wing & B-Wing) -E-Wing -Y-Wing Imperial (mom): -VT-49 Decimator -Tie Punisher -4 Tie Fighters (from the core sets) -Tie Advance (my mom LOVES all things Vader) -Tie Interceptor -Tie Phantom All of this was only $170 (coolstuff had a recent sale going on). I think my next 2 purchases will be the regular Tie Fighter and regular X-Wing...and then I'm not so sure where we'll go from there. But I think we're off to a good start! :) Sorry for posting this long post haha...I'm just excited as heck and am watching a ton of x-wing vids lately and can hardly contain my excitement! My shipment should be here in 3 days and counting! :D

twitchster77 my mom loves all things Vader, what a cool mom. try startactics app for android it's awesome and the developer updates it within hours of ffg dropping info. it has a function that exports images you can print and play without needing the cards.
Me and my mom sure had a great time with this game! We were about even there too...she'd win a game or 2, then I'd win a game or 2. Neither of us was much better than the other. I think she was able to pilot a bit better than I was though (hah she was GREAT at tightly flying around asteroids! It was damn exciting to watch sometimes!). Unfortunately she passed away just a few weeks ago, so I've lost my x-wing gaming partner. :( In the end we had quite a bit invested in this game...I even made a really neat looking gaming table for us where I painted a space scene with a couple of planets...we also had some cool storage solutions and tons of upgraded acrylics. Was some super fun times and I'm thrilled I got to find such a cool game to have played with my mom. Ah well. Now I gotta go talk my friend into playing with me. :) I love this game too much to just move on from it.

One T-70 X-Wing expansion, but that was more for me wanting to paint a T-70 to be Poe's iconic colors and one HWK-290 because I grew up playing the Dark Forces games and loved the design of the Moldy Crow. Great video! I just bought my first core set 2 weeks ago. I was almost tempted into buying a hwk as my first expansion because it was the only small ship expansion at the nearby store. But I kept thinking it wasn't that iconic. Good thing I didn't. Now, I'm off to check the other stores for other expansions. Hopefully, they'll have rebel aces or a B-wing!
I'm pretty new to this game but I'm already falling in love with it. I started with the Force Awakens core set (I really like Poe Dameron) and the first expansion I bought for it was the A-Wing cuz it was cheap and it's one of my favourite ships. The A-Wing has an amazing pilot, Tycho, who can still use actions while stressed so I find it to be awesome as a first expansion. Great video BTW, I've been watching a lot of your stuff recently and I subbed too! :)
Funny enough I started with the Force awakens starter kit, the Outrider and the Rebel Aces having never seen this video. Great vid! I really enjoyed it!
Chunion Same, as of current, the only faction where you can run a legit clone wars era team is the Scum faction. With them having force awakens era ships and galactic civil war era ships being split up by good and evil, with clone wars era, we could see separatists working alongside imperial ships, and republic with rebels. Would expect a clone wars core set to have two vulture droids, and an eta 2 interceptor.
Another good one. I started with the Rebel Aces since I almost got the A-Wing B-wing separate but saw a vid saying the upgrades were worth it. It's nice they sell them together. I got a deal on that. It's funny how you sometimes need to buy a mini just for a card or bomb token to make it worth with something else you own ;
YT2400 comes with Heavy Laser Cannon. Also, it benefits off the crew cards that Rebel Aces brings. In return, Rebel Aces can use the Heavy Laser Cannon and crew the 2400 brings. With Rebel Aces, and a T70, they make good escorts for a 2400. You can also strap Poe Dameron with that Lone Wolf. Lots of good choices.
LOL you chose the exact route my buddy is going with his rebel faction, core set - aces - a wing - b wing, he has no desire for the large ships. I was going to pick him up an extra a-wing since its his fav iconic ship. I was on the fence about the HWK, since it has duality in faction, but Unless I see more turrets in my collection, I don't see it as too very valuable to me, maybe as a Scum variant on the Moldy Crow or something
Poe Dameran +HWK is one of the funnest combos I've played in awhile. Nothing like giving poe double focus or marksmanship + focus. Crits and hits for days.
Because of many upgrade cards being in expansion packs of ships from other factions I'd suggest picking a secondary faction as well as a primary. For example an Imperial player might pick Scum as a secondary faction for the Autothrusters and get just 2 IG-2000 aggressors and a Star Viper to have both a competitive Soontir Fel list as well as a competitive Bro-bots list.

Professional review, good camerawork. I really liked the part what to buy first. But the part of "what to avoid" is missing, . Eg. HWK 290 is one of the worst ships in the entire game as commented of forums. Which ships you think are crap (meaning non tournament competitive) ?

If I'm only looking at casual play and print a mangler cannon for myself, would you still think the YT-2400 lags behind the Falcon? No matter how iconic the Falcon is, I just think the 2400 has a more interesting design.
goininXIV YT2400 is so good with the current tourney meta, aswell as it comes with the heavy laser cannon(he messed up) that's 4 damage, and great against defenders.
Would you say this is still valid given it was Nov 15? Ask as son and I are just getting into it but i know he will want to get competitive fairly quickly
joseph Adcock not a bad idea at all. I didn't get the old core set till after I had about 10 expansions. I must say the old core set is totally worth it for the tie pilots and r2d2, add in you can sometimes find it as cheap as 25$ and it's a great value to expand your collection. over the long run rebels are slightly cheaper to play as the ships generally cost more points in game. however I must warn you, once you start buying xwing you will want it all.
They are both really good options. I'd say go for the Falcon pack first, because you get two different ships in there. I love the Ghost too, and while the Shuttle is technically a different ship, it kinda goes WITH the ghost and you almost always fly them together. So you will probably get more build options out of the HOTR Falcon pack.

For Rebels I always recommend New Core, Rebel Aces, and YT2400.
+hectorgodinez Similar, Imperial Aces and an Additional interceptor gives you quite a fun list to play already.
hectorgodinez rebel aces was my second buy after the core set, I couldn't agree more for rebel players.

They are both the same game. Just different ships in each box - so you'll eventually want both.
I think you are wrong, you want the K or the E wing, Twin turret, and the rebel aces you have a good list.

The other benefit of getting both expansions is having 2 sets of attack dice. This is useful for the times you have attack or defend values over 3.
