    me too Steve ordered to little, then at nighttime worked out i needed 10 more, then when double-checked in the morning i needed 6 x more lol. Must be common to make the mistake with roof joists :)

    Hi Steve. I’m planning on swapping my garage roof, adding a bit of height and making it watertight once again.
    Couple of questions though. Can you use screws as opposed to nails to secure the trusses, as I don’t have access to a nail gun, and it would be too expensive to higher one over the period of the build as I work shifts and having to plan it around work.
    The other is, where did you get your pencil from?? It’s really good 🤣 love the magnetic holder it has
    Cheers 👍🏻

    How have you avoided the fall of the roof being steeper on the short side vs the long side?

    I might have missed it, but how did you line up those roof joists? I see they're placed directly above the rear walls 400 on centre, but if that rear wall is at an odd angle compared to the front, I take it the roof joists must sit slightly twisted on the wall?

      Hello Patrick!! So I basically work from the front to back for the first length. from there the next one sits on the 400 mark on the back (It is at an angle). Then I simply measure the front of the joist off of the last one and set the distance between them the same as the measurement from the back. Once you have this started its just rinse and repeat! Hope this helps and its not too long winded explanation lol :)

    Do you usually throw a hybrid roof on your builds mate?

    • @TheHomeRenovationExperts
      @TheHomeRenovationExperts  3 роки тому +1

      Hello fella!! Yup almost always use hybrid. Its the problem with the 2.5 metre permitted building reg. If I didn't the inside would loose a good bit of height. Hybrid roofs in these types of builds are absolute sort on though :)

      @@TheHomeRenovationExperts cheers for the reply mate 😁. Currently building a workshop in the garden and wanted the extra height so dug down 2ft to give the extra head room and still be under the 2.5 limit from the adjacent natural ground level. But ive built mine around a cold roof so ill have 4" of pir and a 1" air gap above. Used doubled 5x2's for my build so ive managed to get about 8ft of headroom at the highest side internally due to digging the ground out. Never want to shift that much soil by handball ever again though 😂 no access to the rear for a mini digger or anything so 🤦🏻‍♂️. Keep up the good work buddy, enjoy your content

      Hello fella!! Bloody Nora!! That’s a lot of work shifting that lot!! It must be amazing though! I’d like to fit warm roofs as standard but this 2.5 rule is crazy 😜
