Thanks for being so nurturing and encouraging … I want to be able to just experiment and play with colour and turn off the perfectionist brain even though I’m not trying to turn it into a living!
this video came in such a good time! recently I feel disappointed in my art and only do some small prompts in my sketchbook so advice to play with lose paper sounds perfect!!!
Dear Orla, always excited to have you pop up. The prints are stunning. Nothing quite like being by the sea, such an inspiring force. Love your new water colours, bright and cheery. I do love the comfort of my sketch books. Such a good place to explore. Thank you so much for all your time given to inspire us.......Alioban ❤🐱🐱🐈🐈
Good video. First time viewer. The idea of *starting off* With a *fast quick drawing,/ painting* and _once happy with the thumbnail_ & *then start* to work on a detailed final artwork. Stay happy everyone:)
This is going to sound insanely silly….but you are the first person I’ve seen with “mini” woodies! I have been wondering how far down they go. Seeing how short yours are tells me there is a nice amount of “color lead” in the shell. Also thanks for sharing your ideas. So helpful for a self taught novice like me ❤
hehe not silly at all! I think they might have colour lead all the way to the bottom, so I think we can use them right up :) always the best when I can get maximum value for money out of materials and as little waste as possible 💫 thanks so much!
I only recently found your channel, and I’m loving everything you do! 😍 Two questions: what is the name of the gorgeous Schminke magenta color you’re using? And is your spray bottle just water, or is there something else inside? Thanks, and again, I love watching your videos!! ❤
hello and welcome, lovely to have you here! 😊 this one is opera rose - such a bright one! the spray is cleaning liquid - the type you'd clean kitchen sides with 😊
In the US- "loose leaf" paper is what we used in grade school- very thin lined paper. I assume that your meaning is not the same! so funny how we term things so different ly over here- so what you are using is watercolor paper torn out from a pad or block right? 🤗
@@OrlaStevens I’ve also used it that way in the US. I will say the most common use of it that we encounter is the white lined paper we use in school, but I’ve seen it for art papers taken from a pad as well.
@@zoewhite7705 yeah- I was just making an observation as I am obsessed with languages- I have family in the UK and we laugh all the time at how we Americans say things as opposed to how things are said across the pond 😊 In fact, I have adopted a few!
Orla, if you don't mind sharing...how do you go about turning your sketch book into multiple books? I would appreciate the help 🙏 as I have no idea 😮😢❤❤
@@OrlaStevens Thanks. Can you be more specific? I see only one large cream-colored sketchbook in (and on the cover of) this video. I can't find it at Jackson's or at Boesner (which doesn't seem to have an English language option). I followed your link to your page about sketchbooks, but no help there either.
This one is this sketchbook in "quadratische format" - the largest optioon they have :) www.boesner.com/sketch-color-projekt-skizzenbuch-20455 And a similar one from jacksons: www.jacksonsart.com/jackson-s-lay-flat-hardcover-sketchbooks-100-gsm Hope these help :)
I really should be sleeping, but I can’t resist Orla 😊. Across the seas, around the world, from Scotland to New Zealand. Fellow Journaless 🙏
Aw thank you!! ☺️

thanks so much! it's such a good skill to be able to turn that part of the brain of - a constant practice for us all I think! ☀️
Love this set
I LOVE this set. It’s my favorite one on my desk 😊so appreciate the nudge to practice on the “good” paper.

aw that's great to hear; it definitely can feel really freeing to work on loose pages :)
I love that the prints are organic as they are and you don't edit the edges, that is a beautiful and warm touch 🙂
thank you! 😊

Thank you so much! 🌿
Ooh Orla. I've been waiting for these prints. So excited. Great video as always x Nell.
Thanks Nell! 💙
We can also work on loose paper and paste it in afterwards if we like it lol
Your seaside prints are gorgeous, Orla
thanks so much! 💫
Another wonderful video! And I love my Kuretake paints! Very different from western watercolors...
they're so fun to use! Definitely love them 😊
Beautiful artwork and thank you for the ideas! ❤❤❤

This is fun, your sketchbook is huge! What sort do you use?
it's one of jackson's own-brands! it's great, especially working across the double page spread 😊

Ohh that’s interesting! I think of loose leaf as anything that’s not bound in a book 📕 yeah exactly, this one is watercolour 😊

I’m in the UK and have only heard it used the way Orla did - ie paper in a loose sheet (leaf) as opposed to sheets bound together in a book.

@@JoJoTarz Me too! I have family in the US and it’s endlessly fascinating what is the same and what’s developed differently over time.

Hey Susan! do you mean to keep creating different drawings once you have filled up one? 😊
I’m not sure what she is asking either.
What kind of archival inks do you use?
the giclée prints are made using a few different printers, so the brand of printing ink may vary, but all use official UV (pigment based) inks ☀️
Would you mind telling me the brand and size of your sketchbook? I can't find anything larger than A4. Thanks.
These ones are hahnemuhle & Boesner but Jacksons make some good large scale ones too!
