    The whole problem with digital media is what constitutes ownership? would these people be happier if they just got a download of the DRM free version of the game? The more people try to declare physical media dead the more you're going to run into problems like this. I still have a DVD drive and tons of USB A ports, none of this stuff is obsolete to me and I don't plan on buying a computer anytime soon that sacrifices those drives and ports just because some random tech snob claims "it's so over." But the problem still remains, pressing disks is going to get to expensive for limited run to make these limited copies financially viable, so what do you expect them to put games on if tech companies are so determined to kill physical, and so many of you guys are all so happily accepting it?

      That Zotac handheld looks like a 1:1 copy of the Steam deck, but I honestly wouldn't complain about that At least ti doesn't do the stupid asymmetric stick thing that everyone else is doing... I don't think I agree on the USB-A comment.
    It's kinda like saying the standard mechanical cut house key is being phased out; it's technically true but also so pervasive that it's not going anywhere for a long time.
    (there's also A-to-C adapters that are so simple they almost can't fail)
    Not saying there isn't other good points on the LRG story, I just don't agree on that one.

      I only have one computer with usb c, if they went that route it'd actually be a bigger hassle for the vast majority of people, anyone can find a device with usb lying around, but not everyone has a newer device with usb c. Is there even a desktop with only usb c? Most gamers don't use laptops. I think even if usb a is dead and gone it'll still get at least two ports on tower computers 20 years from now.

      @@trashtrash2169 There is a story from a rather niche community that reflects this reality perfectly: The GPD Win Mini. It's a handheld gaming PC from GPD. In the first model in 2023, this device has the following I/O ports: 2 USB-C ports, 1 audio jack, 1 MicroSD slot, 1 OCuLink port. GPD's customers didn't like this too much because they had no USB-A port while OCuLink is a niche-within-a-niche type of port. So for the 2024 refresh of the Win Mini, GPD replaced the OCuLink with a USB-A port to respond to popular demand. Even in a super-enthusiast community of GPD customers, they had to bring back a USB-A port, in 2024.

      Well the USB stick/SD card they should pick should have specs that would match the price point "without cutting corners". Heck, they might as well include the ENTIRE Clock Tower collection for every single Clock Tower game released out in the wild (dumped from the actual game files from the original cartridges and compact discs/digital video discs released on those formats back in the day).

    • @aquapendulum
      @aquapendulum 22 дні тому

      @@trashtrash2169 Flash memory is most certainly more durable than optical media. You only need to be concerned of 2 things: heat and long period of non-use.
      For the first one: don't leave your flash memory somewhere hot for a prolonged period. You will never face this issue outside of some poorly-designed laptops that put their integrated SD slots right next to their exhaust vents. External readers and USB drives most certainly won't face this issue.
      For the second one: If you have gone for around 5 years without plugging in your USB drive/SD card, plug them in once. Flash memories very slowly lose charges over time but running an electric current through them once is enough to reset their charges.
      That's it.

    Limited Run needs to get its house in order, but honestly I think they're already collapsing and I have a feeling this USB misstep is going to be the nail in the coffin for them. Their release quality has been declining for a while now.
    Intels choice to put the RAM on the chip itself is a bad idea. Yes, the performance gains are going to be substantial over a standard setup - or even a soldered one - but RAM is one of the most common failure points in a machine last time I checked. Additionally, I - as well as many others - are aware of the long shelf life of Intel processors; see the 2500k, and more modern blocks like the 4790k (my current processor). This seems like a convenient way to increase the failure rate of an otherwise reliable component, to maintain the cyclical consumption cycle. It could also have a marked impact on the second hand 'office Dell reseller' market.

      It's interesting. But emulating DS family-consoles on a single-screen device doesn't sound like a great idea to me. DSi isn't that expensive and easy to mod (no flash cart required).

    • @robmalcolm8042
      @robmalcolm8042 22 дні тому

      @MrGarryGrey I wish the native systems were good but I got a new 3ds already modded recently and it sucks in my opinion. Audio is super low even compared my s24 ultra at half volume. But it also doesn't crash for 3ds games like basically every 3ds emulator eventually does. Also super slow in loading ds games. Only good thing is it's mostly lag free on 3ds games like alpha sapphire that although they are way better on 3ds android emulators it is more smooth on the actual system. This noods emulator is crazy impressive though. It's the only emulator so far to not have glitches in the pokemon ds games intros. It literally does the intros like my 3ds and a real ds and it's the only emulator for ds to do that so far. So it's definitely the most accurate right now it's playing just like a ds would. And I get androids mostly aren't dual screen but to me they play fine especially a s series samsung with the spen is like a stylus. Not to mention if that's cumbersome the touch screen is great with fingers since a real ds or 3ds touch screen is a bit harder to press without a stylus and then the android screen is super responsive to touch.

    • @MrGarryGrey
      @MrGarryGrey 22 дні тому

      @@robmalcolm8042 Nah, I wouldn't recommend playing DS games on 3DS for the reasons you mentioned + different screen aspect ratio that stretches the image. That's why I mentioned DSi. I have the XL and it's perfect for DS games (just finished Mario and Luigi Partners in Time). Standby mode is crazy, it can sit for weeks (again, unlike 3DS that typically drain battery in a few days). For phones in vertical orientation, it might be good enough, but Vita with its 5 inch screen? Nah. Maybe just games that use a single screen. As for the sound, it's loud enough to play at home and I would never play without headphones outside, so no comments/complaints there.
      I respect emulators and I think they're very important for game preservation, but I don't think it's easy to emulate systems like DS/3DS to play comfortably.

    • @robmalcolm8042
      @robmalcolm8042 22 дні тому

      @MrGarryGrey oh yeah I know about that and even when you try to do native res on 3ds it makes the ds games too small. My only gripe is the hardware failures that happen with native consoles that emulators don't have to worry about. Probably my only issue. Yes they are comfortable but those hardware failures aren't nice.

    I can see what people are saying about the USB, but I've been thinking something in that vein would be a good way to continue physical media.
    A lot of people clamor for discs and cartridges that end up having half a game and a digital download on it. Utilizing affordable flash media is, I think, an effective way to deliver a DRM free copy that you can own and store.

      @@bugsisland3061 Buddy, I don't know if I have ever talked about it in the present day, but back in March 2012, I used to buy physical discs for many games, and I can't tell you (especially early on in the 5th generation with PS1), one of our PS1 discs "Classic games from the Intellivision" or "Intellivision: Classic Games for the PS1" was scratched beyond recognition that I couldn't get it to work on PS1 games anymore. Heck, we even lost Croc: legend of the gobbos when we moved in 2002. Not to mention that some of the gamecube discs (Mario Party 5 copy that I had form 2003) for the story mode credits scene gives me a "disc error" every time I try to beat the game, so it's stuck in the story mode never being able to be completed anymore. Then my Super Paper Mario disc doesn't work anymore on the WIi out of nowhere in 2011, and it made me think in 2012 that it would be better to continue physical media on USB Sticks, SD Cards, or even better, Hard Disk Drives that would have a cover of the game itself with the ratings on the back, and my idea later on would be to fill the hard disk drive with more than one game, but also nine more games into the hard disk drive before you have to buy another one to get ten other games you want on one hard disk drive...So yeah, I can totally relate man from experience with playing video games since 1998/1999.

You also can make the buttons disappear if they are in the way for more touch screen access. I been messing around seeing what settings there are but there isn't many yet. At least there's save states as well. The only issue I've noticed at least on my phone is the screen dims with the emulator but not with others so I put my screen to dim at 10 minutes. Probably something that needs to be addressed but I'm very impressed with the accuracy of the emulator.

    01:30 Funny how they mentioned how expensive that is because "That" was how I wanted video games from 2012 onward to be in physical form, say a USB stick, SD Card, or heck, even a hard disk drive/solid state drive that you can store more games digitally in there without issue. The only problem is that, much like Nintendo, they're selling you a ROM/ISO file of that game without actually buying the original game on the original system and go from there. So yeah, sucks to them once more for scamming people into buying something that you can get for a cheaper price. PLUS, I would only sell those for say half that price to $30.00 or even $20.00 instead of the full $60.00 for every copy like that. As for the person who mentioned that "USB-A will be outdated at some point" I will tell that person that I still use USB Type A devices to this very freakin' day. Heck, if every single laptop forced me to go with Type C, I would have to buy adapters to hook up my Type-A stuff with Type-C...Not really fun. But again, it's why I'm a cable person, I collect cables, adapters, and electronics in general. Heck, Micro USB A is the thicker one that was originally used on PS3 controllers and old 2000s burner phones back in the day. It wouldn't be until the 2010s when Mini USB As would be used, and then in the mid 2010s and early 2020s is when Type C was adapted. However, I find it funny that 12 years later Limited Run Games would do the same thing that I thought of back in 2012 so this way I can easily put these guys in a baggies instead of a case that, the case and the disc can EASILy get damaged or stepped on (I don't think these collectors realize there are people out there who are careless where they put the stuff or don't even know where to put it, causing the disc to be lost and only the case is there, you lose the case but the disc remains, or both. This actually happened when we lended our gamecube copy to one of my older brother's old girlfriend's younger brother and he somehow lost the case AND the manuals, but not the disc. I was sooooo pissed at mom that I told her I'm not lending our games again. And yet this was the same thing I told my sister about it, as I told her, "Then have her buy her own copy. I don't trust other people to lend my physical copy to someone else that would destroy it or become careless and loose it altogether." Again, I personally go with Enterprise HDDs because Those things are hard to loose and everyone would know what the heck they look like. But again, it was an idea I had back in 2012 because video games were going soo high above the 50gb/100gb limit of the disc that at this point you might as well give people SSDs or HDD physical formats if people wish to play it without DRM/Anit-Piracy measures and such. But I can see why people prefer a disc, BUT, you know what would solve all of this? HAVE EVERYONE TAKE A GOSH DARN CHECKLIST OF WHAT THEY LIKE TO ORDER THE PRODUCT AS IS AND NOT HAVE THE COMPANY GUESS WHAT PEOPLE MIGHT THINK THEY WOULD LIKE AS A COLLECTOR'S ITEM!!!!.....Gees, even I as a 16 year old in 2011/2012 knew the only way to appease everyone was an online order where they can "Customize" how they want their product shipped, formatted, and customized as they like. Personally, I would prefer a 3.5mm HDD drive so I can store other games on it and not just one game. For the price of $60.00, I should AT LEAST have the "Clock Tower" collection on there, which includes the exclusive Japanese/PAL versions of the game that the US "Never" got released over here in the west, with more bonus features that shows artwork, interviews with the devs who worked on it back in the 1990s and early 2000s, etc. etc....But wow, I'm not shocked they went down that route, and to be honest, the USB-A thing is not an issue to me, as if you're SSOOOOOOO concerned about Type-A versus Type-C, just buy a USB-A female to USB Type-C male for under $20.00 and it'll work just as fine as plugging it directly into a USB A slot. I would be really worried if it was USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0 and above.)
    Either way, great news as always Mr. Sujano. =)

      @@cheeeeezewizzz What I'm saying is that, if you don't include enough content or value into the product, then don't make it the same price as a new video game. What I'm saying is that the methods they've been using for the past 10 years is ridiculous. For HDDs, people at least should buy the game and then be able to play it on the consoles, or whichever selected platform they use, without requiring the internet, and it installs much like an .exe file on your PC, but for consoles. So yes to release DRM but for half the cost of this product, but ban jacking prices up for inflation reasons. I know I'm crazy but this is what I would do (Sell a cheap device at a huge loss,e ven if it hits the stockholder's bottom line).

    I don't get the Limited Run Game controversy. Is it the medium or the cost of the medium? Both CDs and USBs are physical media that hold digital data so no difference there. And CDs used to cost a few cents each retail which is less than any legit USB flash drive.
    The only difference between the two (apart from how more uncommon it has become to have a DVD drive in your PC these days) is that the CD has bigger surface to print on...

    As a fan of the Clock Tower series, it feels... insulting. Clock Tower: The First Fear was possibly the most terrifying game I played for the SNES. And not get me started on the PS1 sequel Clock Tower (or Clock Tower 2 since it's the sequel), I could gush about how much I loved that one. But as a fan of the first game, I aways wanted a official translation... just not nowadays. But honestly, to buy a USB stick for the most beloved survival horror game? It's like a slap in the face Hifumi Kono of Human Entertainment, since they had to fight tooth to the nail to even make the game originally since at the time. You're just better off playing the ro m h ack of the original called Clock Tower: Deluxe. This is a huge pass, even if it went on steam.

      I'd prefer optical, but then again almost nobody owns optical drives these days. Blu-ray disks can last hundreds of years if stored properly. I've got about 80tb worth of data stored on disks I keep as a data hoard. Planning to grow it to about 1000tb eventually. Everything alphabetized with printed and laminated spreadsheets explaining where everything is using the Dewey decimal system. Eventually I'll add full schematics for a computer optical drive, the underlying technologies, and the os and software required to read the disks as well as my own Rosetta stone.
      It will be an archive of human data and knowledge and art that could last up to 1000 years in storage. Even if we undergo complete societal collapse humanity may still one day again enjoy the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

    A DRM-free copy of a game in any form serves the purpose of archival and preservation just fine. Everything else is just the cosmetic. If you want the cosmetic of an optical disc, just say so and go print that DRM-free copy to a disc yourself. Just don't pretend an optical disc has anything more to do with game preservation than any other physical storage format.

    • @cheeeeezewizzz
      @cheeeeezewizzz 22 дні тому +1

      Well, not entirely true. Blu-ray disks and M-disks can last nearly 1000 years if properly stored and the data will still be readable. Optical media is by far the longest lasting data storage method we know of, other than carving it right into stone or metal slabs I guess.
      I keep a massive organized library of 80tb using the Dewey decimal system. My great great great great great great great great great x5 grandchildren could potentially still use those same disks if they are stored properly.

    • @aquapendulum
      @aquapendulum 22 дні тому

      @@cheeeeezewizzz You are talking about archival-grade Blu-ray discs that are made specifically for the corporate sector and the Japanese government, the kind of Blu-ray discs that also requires a specific type of Blu-ray drive to read. This type of archival-grade BD cannot be used as an argument in favor of consumer-grade Blu-ray discs used by the video game industry, which are still prone to disc rot.

    • @cheeeeezewizzz
      @cheeeeezewizzz 22 дні тому

      @aquapendulum No necessarily. Archival grade disks aren't that expensive. I use the m-disks which the US military rated for a lifespan of over 900 years. The write speeds are pretty horrid though and they cannot be rewritten. It took a LONG time to write that 80tb. I've got new disks writing constantly. If something longer lasting comes around I'll move to that. Goal is to leave at least 5-10 petabytes of data behind for my family. Every movie, tv show, and song and game I can possibly get my hands on. I also scrub dozens of news sites worldwide with some bots and download almost every major news article in the world too. It all gets cataloged and saved automatically.

    • @cheeeeezewizzz
      @cheeeeezewizzz 22 дні тому
