Will This New Oil Pan Fix Our CHEAP "Blown Engine" Porsche Boxster 981?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Today we fix our cheap Porsche Boxster 981 that insurance quoted as needing a new engine (for $28,000). All we had to replace was the oil pan. We opted to go with an upgraded billet deep sump oil pan from RR racing. We also go for the first drive to see if the repairs worked. Hopefully the engine doesn't blow up like on our cheap flooded Maserati Granturismo.

The Boxster is slowly getting the respect it deserves plus it's such a great gateway to Porsche ownership.
True I loved my Boxter
Anybody who puts down the Boxster or Cayman have no idea what they are talking about. I have a 911 AND a Boxster. Truth being told, the Boxster is just as quick around the track and is more fun in the Tx Hill country twisty roads. Once you drive one (IF you are a real driver) you will always sing the praises of the car. One of the best handling cars Porsche has ever built. Keep up the Boxster content. It is awesome.
Same here I have a 992 911 S I've had 5 Porsches. I love a good Boxster and the engine is in the right place mid engine car
I think they get a bad reputation because a lot of hairdressers drive them.
NEVER tired of Porsche content
Heck yea!
@@JRGarage Same never tired of it
same i really love it
I just bought a Boxster. I’m so pumped. My first Porsche was a 356B. The new one will be parked next to my 1974 VW THING. LOL
I found your channel because of the Porsche content so count me in with the group that can’t get enough Porsche videos. They’re just so much more relatable than super/hypercars. Very much looking forward to the 986/987/981 comparison video.
A previous owner of several Porsches starting with a '74 914 in the late '70's in college, a 924 and 944 in the 80's, then taking an over 25 year break from Porsche, and getting back into to them with the 986 Boxster and now a newer 718 982 Boxster. The Boxster's are great spirited cars that handle amazingly, and are just plain fun to drive with the top down. Keep the Porsche content coming JR, very enjoyable to watch!! You are one lucky guy to snag a deal like that on that gorgeous like-new 981.
As an enthusiast and an owner of 2 Boxsters, keep it up. watch the rocks with that lower oil pan.
Keep the Boxters coming! You should keep one for long term costs and reliabilities content.
Loving the Porsche content. I have a 987.2 Cayman and it's the best car i've driven soo far, and these videos could prove useful for figuring out and sorting problems in the future. So I personally hope to see a Cayman video at some point, but any Porsche content is a win. Keep it up!
Loving the Porsche content!
I think it's more relatable for us to see content in regards to purchases $10-30k compared to something 50+
Gives us hope that one day we might take a risk and do the same
I'm definitely in agreement with all your comments in this video! I've got a '14 981 Cayman and picked it up in 2016 as a CPO with only 5,000 miles! It has undoubtedly been the best bang for the buck car I've ever purchased. The combination of styling, comfort, performance, and that sweet flat 6 sound can not be beaten by any car - period. On top of that, it cruises the interstate at 75 mph and gets about 33 mpg! It's practically an econocar! LOL!
Keep those Porsche vids coming!
Loving the Porsche content, definitely needs an upgraded exhaust
Agreed! Would sound sweet with an aftermarket setup
@@JRGaragewith some rims and maybe a lip kit for the front and side👀
Love you guys. Congratulations on having the 'eye' to find these great deals!!
Thanks so much!!
I had 981 6 speed, then 987 S 6 speed and now a 981 S PDK. Love them all but the 981 S is amazing!
I owned a 1974 Porsche 914. I loved the mid-engine. This might be my next Porsche.
This is the type of content I like. Hope to find a Boxster of my own
You got yourself another gem. I’ve been watching your videos about these Boxters and this 981 appears to be the cream of the crop. I have a 951 since 1991 and certainly wouldn’t mind owning a 981 now. Such an upgrade to more modern technology.
I like the fact that you have a convertible . You can talk and hear the engine but yet you can listen to the radio and enjoy the drive I think that's the perfect sound. Such a beautiful color combo and I love that interior. Paddle shifters are the jam.
I’ve driven hundreds of cars over the years. As a daily sports car, 981 Boxster and 3.2-litre Honda NSX share the podium for first place. They’re utterly brilliant.
23 and you guys are dropping a lot of content it’s dope
Age is just a number, we’ll keep it up!
I have the 981 Boxster S and it is amazing! Add the Soul Exhaust with valves and then it sounds absolutely amazing!
I don't own a Boxster or a Porsche and likely never will (except for perhaps a Macon for my wife) but I love the Boxster content - it's interesting to see the wide swing in values across the years and what great "scores" you're getting at auction (with all the risk and work that goes in to them). Worth watching for sure - even if you do get a bit over excited / over acting - it's great content nonetheless!
PDK is not the best gearbox in particular for those who like driving, however for those who think that speed / bhp defines a sports car like PDK, driving a sports car is about involvement and feel using the 3rd pedal to modulate the car whilst exploiting the engine rather than depending on a computer to do the driving whilst you gloat at your driving. Manual is the collectors choice.
I agree i think we should bring back the advance and retard lever on the steering wheel to give the full involvement in your driving. Don't you just hate all those modern driver aids.
Keep collecting Porsche Pokemon's. Absolutely love your videos. Your enthusiasm for porsche in recent videos exudes in your content.
Love the Porsche content keep it going bro 🐐💯💪🏽
Dont Quit The Boxter Content! Its Great Content!
Glad to see your Calculated Gambles are paying off,
Uk 🇬🇧 is watching and enjoying
I love my humble 987 Boxster, and it's great to see others giving the car the recognition I think it deserves. The pinnacle model for me is the 981 GTS.
$24k is a smoking deal
Yeah it can use a better exhaust system. Keep up the great job
I've had two boxsters and 3 others Porsches including the new 992 911 S. I love the 981 boxster its brilliant sounds great and fantastic value for money
Just stumbled on your channel (for 981 content) and I'm glad I did. Good energy and education here. Keep the content coming. Also own a 981B and I love the car; despite it's noices and frecuente creaking. I think it gives it character.
Got mine for $44OTD w/ 17k and the deals are definitely out there guys.
Welcome aboard! 981 is such a sweet car!
I'd follow this channel without Boxster content but I love the Boxster buys and fixes you do. I have a low mileage 2001 986 S. Great fun to drive and your content takes the fear out of things that might go wrong. Porsche content is always welcome by me. Throw in an occasional 'other" type car you have perfection.
Great channel love all the cars even though I am in the UK
Was going to treat myself to a retirement car XK but now 😮it’s going to be a Boxster
Never tired of Porsche content sure a Boxster isn't a 911 GT3 RS but it's still a Porsche and a great gateway to get into the family
As an Australian owner of a dream Porsche 981 GT4, a beautiful 996 911 carrera and a classic 986 boxster, I love any Porsche content.😊😊😊😊😊😊🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Yes you can have Porsche content everyday.....I'll be here
That is such a beautiful boxster and I love the content I won't be mad to see other cars though maybe some 4 wheel drives if you're into that!
elegant styling boxster`s ! thank you great show .
I have A88 944 I've always heard dead boxers have problems but after watching all your videos and some of the good luck that you've had I may be considering one in the future.
I had a chance to rent one for a weekend the other year. it was a 2011 S. I wasn't sure going in but it won me over, loved it! 😎
I love the Boxster content. The yellow Boxster 3 years ago was how I found this channel
Yes , smoking car , Yes to throaty exhaust , great paint and popping interior colors . Win 😊 Win .Thanks for the content ❤
Nah, you're on point, you're driving a Boxter, it's luxury, it's got riz, you have better horses in the stable if you want to hit the track. But that car on a road track is no slouch.
I work near the airpark. I have probably seen you guys driving around and just never knew it! I would love to see the collection in person sometime.
You Guys are going ham on the boxsters and if you can make money off them, then so be it and buy a load of them. But for content it's nice to see a variety every now and then and I Love Porsche.
Nothing wrong with all the Boxster content. 👍👍
On my 3rd Boxster.
Had all 3 versions of the Boxster so far.
Loved my 987S (Sold to my nephew..... again. He also bought my 986)
Loved these cars!
Boxster is that fun, fast, and incredible handling car!
And there is a big difference between 986 S (or non S) compared to the 987.
It's like they (Porsche) decided to get closer to his big brother 911.
And then the 981 S, which I just bought is another leep in technology.
The PDK,
300 plus horses
And suspension selection (that also controls throttle response and exhaust notes)
You have sport or track.
I highly doubt that I'll be tracking her anytime soon. 😊
I was going to buy a 2016 911.
A guy beat me to it.... sort of. Dishing out $$$ for a third car in northern Michigan??
The other guy bought the 911 and found out he was turning in a 2014 981 S.
Sold.
Thanks for all the content you’ve been putting out
I used to scoff at the base engine Boxsters. Not any more. The lower hp just makes them more useable on the street.
Those are great cars right off the lot, many people feel the better investment is a base model, it leave any mods/upgrades up to you. Also I would let the PDK do the shifting, it's likely better than you (or me)! With the right tires that car will provide all the performance you can use on a public road. If someone wants to hit the track then they should look at another model...and write a bigger check...maybe a much bigger check.
Yup. Audio off, subtitles on - works just great. Keep up the good work.
You guys are making me fall in love with Porsche, kudos 👍
I agree with the fuel door comment, my Smart is on the right side as well!
Great 👍🏻 video, love that color combo!!! You guys did an awesome job 👏🏻
Check out IDP intake and throttle body for your Boxster to enhance the engines power. I have installed these on both of my Porsches. There is a marked difference and worth the money spent.
Love Boxsters, maybe chuck the odd Cayman in as well?
I have one and can 100% recommend! Mine has the original sport exhaust and sounds amazing!
More Boxster please
-a 986 owner who does all their own maintenance
Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Would love to know what caused the hole in the floor board (Looks like a bullet hole) There's a story there. That and the gravel in the exhaust. As I said before, this is my fantasy channel. Fun to see how the non-cake eaters live.
Can never go wrong with Porsche or Corvette content.
Corvette
You guys are making us fall in love with Porsche
On our 2003 GM Vauxhall/Opel Astra convertible, it's just a switch to drop or raise the roof, plus it works with the remote to open of close it. It seems strange that many, more expensive cars took so long to uprate, if they ever have.
The Porsche contents are the most exhilarating and very nice 👌....keep going my friend...
Thank you for sharing content, sir Novak Djokovic.
The Boxster content is great! All generation's are amazing cars for their price!💪
Love the Boxster content 👍
My Thought is you killed the holiday seasons with this series of videos! ^____^
Homerun dude, plain and simple. I'm gonna have to get you to find me one of those jewels. We need to talk. Also loving the boxster content. It's got me seriously thinking about trying to find one at a decent price then putting in some sweat equity.
Let’s hope it’s fix the issue
Fingers crossed it doesn’t blow up
Great deal, you smashed it! Looks great, lov it
Keep the Boxsters coming! You know I love mine!
11:54 Heyyyy I feel called out!!! I don't think my Stinger or Miata is boring lol
More Boxster Content!! Keep it coming!!!
You both do great research and have been very fortunate with all your purchases…Wow..
LOVE THE PORSCHE CONTENT!!! Love the vids 🫶🏿🫶🏿🫶🏿
would love to see a video where you talk about the 986, 987, 981 all in the same video. Like a comparison
Be careful with aftermarket exhaust systems, I had to remove mine as there was a terrible moan at highway cruising speeds. Also because they have such low side-wall tiers you have to replace them when the side-walls get stiff, because you lose a lot of suspension comfort.
Watching from Australia! Love the Porsche content have a 986!
Good to hear that the new oil pan solved the problem but what did you do about the hole in the undercarriage?
That looks like the Perfect Porsche! My Porsche 917/10 Can Am Replica has TWO FLAT SIXES!!! Ok, they are Subaru sixes, but Porsche designed them! They are disconnected right now but they could be reconnected fairly easily. By someone else, not by me!
Great purchase! Your knowledge and connections allow you to take these chances and come out on top.
Love the Porsche content! Def becoming my favorite channel
The deep sump oil pan does not provide additional cooling. The additional oil acts as a larger heat sink. A third radiator, larger heat exchanger add additional cooling.
Keep the Boxster content coming! I've owed 3 and also owned a 911. Like the Boxster better! Very underrated, people are catching on. That's a smokin' deal you got!
Its Nice! Fixed it with a sump pan well done Mate👍I think the bigger pan's a good thing as long as you do regular oil changes it should be sweet.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! WHAT A DEAL!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!! 👍
Porsche fan my whole life, Boxster fan from the first generation !
Interesting content and well presented /edited etc . Thanks
we love any Porsche videos, also M3 and M5, keep doing the excellent work
I suspect that the rocks in the exhaust is an attempt by someone to get a break on the price at the auction by saying it was vandalism. The hole in the floor from the inside out could have been an attempt to let the flood water out.
My niece had a Boxter and it needed some relatively minor motor work, and the dealer told her that "we don't repair those motors. We just put in a new one." She traded it in for a Land Rover.
Great idea. The working man's Porsche channel!
Great find, again!!! Keep the boxster content coming
Gotta be bouncing in your seat while doing the DMO shift haha
Great content. Unnecessary dramatics (like starting up the engine, the shop ran it already so… ?).
YES we need the Porsche content to continue 😂😂😂, another great one guys!!
It’s a cheap way to own a Porsche. Wow, that one the color is sweet and interior is decent. Sharp looking car. Like you say, you guys take the big risk and it pays off. That’s awesome and I think people that like it maybe want to start doing that too and learn a lot from you. I’m sure your luck will run out eventually, but keep on rolling the dice, it’s working for you two. Keep up the great work. Of course your plane videos are awesome. Helicopters would be cool too. Just saying, lol
Nice job! Keep up the Boxster videos.
You guys have me looking for Boxsters now lol
Very cool content. I'd be happy with it sitting in the driveway making vroom vroom noises even if it was broken. (My kids would think I had a breakdown 🙃)
Great deal! Are any of them for sale? Also when is the brown 944 gonna get painted?
It doesn't matter which car you present - as long, as your videos are as entertaining as ever...
