I love this new Prius. I always said the only thing keeping me from considering a Prius is that I just found them so ugly and I could never bring myself to spend money on something that I genuinely don’t like to look of. They finally made beets little economy car look attractive and not repulsive. About time.
I think the reason that Eli has the old-fashioned key is because that car is kind of mint for like people who are taxis and stuff like that fleet of cars and you want them as cheap as possible with none of the luxury stuff because it’s just gonna be a taxi. I think that’s the car. It’s meant to be an in for all the actual individual consumers. They have like the LEX and all those cars that come with the keyless entry but I think this is more of the fleet car I believe that is the purpose of the LE
Have you seen black Prius and how it compared to other colors? I guess black doesn't show off cool accents as other colors do and roof blends in (where as other colors shows it nicely).
I wish we could get the 17-in wheels on XLE/Limited. I prefer more rubber sidewall for potholes, and the smaller wheels will improve mpg - I also like how the 17-in wheels look in pictures.
Yep. My 2017 Lexus ES350 Base model has 17 inches wheels and loves it. Ride is better and tires are cheaper. My buddy’s upper trim has 19s and rides a little rougher and noisier.
Going for LE model after some consideration here. The big wheels on upper trims is just not congruent with a smaller hybrid car plus the LE should have smoother and quieter ride with smaller wheels. The smart key is a spoiler convenience I am sure, but at 62 years old I have never had a car with that and so it is not going to change my world to have to reach for key which is my routine for all my life. The wheels are actually alloy with covers, not steel wheels and to lose a few features that yes, I would like to have, I want smoother quieter ride and the substantially higher MPG and with same hp ratings as others, and the cleaner looking nose...I like LE and oh the price does not hurt either lol!
I told the dealer that's looking for one for me about the LE needing a key and he says that's not true. Did Toyota change their mind after this review?
The LE actually has an alloy wheel with a wheel cover just like the lower trims on the 4th-gen Prius had as well as the 2020-2022 Corolla Hybrid LE had.
Same here. Would have loved 57 MPG, but LE too bare bones. Going for LTD AWD even w/o dual temp, fog lights, turn signals on side mirrors and non-opening sunroof - disappointing, but not deal breaker.
Dealers in my area just now seeing Prius deliveries...Car looks great on the outside but there are issues on the negative side: 1) Dealers asking dramatic ADM! Will nothing ever return to MSRP or below? 2) Cars coming in are mostly fully loaded with all the options..driving up the price with options you would not have ordered 3) I am 6'1''...driver position is less than ideal: steering wheel position adjustment not adequate when adjusting seat to allow enough room to the pedals and gauge pack is partially blocked by the steering wheel 4) Rear visibility is poor. They do option a rear view camera..seems mandatory. Many customers have ordered their new Prius sight unseen which could prove to be a bit disheartening. On the road reviews mention noisy interior from road and wind ..I think at this price point they should be much quieter..I am still interested but not with stiff markups..One point I would mention as a positive: Toyota's full safety suite is standard I believe on all trim levels.

I have a 2006 Prius iTech. I got it when it was 3 years old. My 3 kids were then 7 ears old and under. It has been a great car and I am still driving it. It has good cargo space for shopping and we did numerous holiday road trips. As it is a high car, it’s easy for elderly people to get in and out and the driver has a good view of the road ahead. My kids are now 14-20 years old and we can still fit into it but mostly it only has 1-3 people in it. What you have to watch is that the design philosophy changed dramatically with the 4th generation Prius. To make the car sexier and handle better it has been lowered and the cargo space reduced. This reduces driver visibility, reduces headroom, makes getting in and out less easy for old people and you have less room for shopping etc. We hired 4th gen Prius when in Japan a couple of times and it was able to take two adults and 3 teenagers with a couple of suitcases OK. It got amazing fuel economy despite hilly terrain. It was a nice car if you can get over the ugly styling. I suggest you test drive the 2023 Prius and do the same with the alternatives before ordering anything. The Corolla Cross might suit your needs better - but it’s nowhere near as sexy.

Camry LE has a convenience package available that gives you smart key and blind spot monitoring without needing to upgrade to an XLE. The Prius LE still gives you push button start even standard even though you have to press the fob to unlock the doors.
I don’t like the low profile tires, couldn’t find memory seats. The 8 inch screen has the button on the left the 12 inch has the volume button on the right is it too far? Back window visibility looks bad. No fix a flat, give me a wheel.
I wrote to Toyota and got the 700+ page manual for this car. I asked them if the LE comes with push button start. It is in fact Push Button, but does not have the "smart Key" just the old school push button keyfob to open the door not the proximity to open. LE is what I ordered.
The LE will be the top seller because because not only because it has the cheaper price but because it gets 5 more miles to the gallon. Not all but most people that buy hybrids to save at the pump. Businesses like cab companies and deliveries will save big with the LE at cost of the car and the mileage for all the driving they do.
My LE 2022 Prius Prime has keyless entry. It doesn't give me keyless entry to the rear hatch (which is annoying) but I don't have to use a physical key to start it. I wonder if the Prime version SE model will have keyless entry. IDK why they would go backward on a feature like that.
I like the Ltd AWD w/ rubber mats. Local dealer clueless on availability. Any time between tomorrow and three months from now ( Jan 1). Definitely will test drive.
I currently have a red 2012 Prius and plan to buy a 2023. I can't trade though as I am giving my 2012 to my 18 yr old son. I live in Wyoming but I am not really interested in the AWD. My front drive 2012 has done ok for 10 years here. I think snow tires would help more than enough, especially as my main concern is not skidding under braking. I hope the dealers don't blow up the prices.
Update: I put a deposit on an AWD Infrared SE. After watching some videos that compared fwd/snow tires vs AWD all-season, it became obvious the AWD is superior. Unclear when the vehicle will arrive, but potentially about 1 month.
Site says remote connect is standard. As long as LE has that I can precondition the cabin for hot summer and cold winter. $3000 XLE and you have to add more for glass roof and infotainment stuff. Not a good value.
Thank you for the very informative video! The question is, is the new Prius or the Camry hybrid the better purchase, since they are similar price points. I'm thinking the Prius based on that it comes with more features at a lower price point, and that the Camry will probably be redesigned soon. What do you think?
Obviously, it depends on the dealer. There are some Toyota dealers that don’t do markups if you get on their waiting list for future cars that haven’t been built yet.
I currently own a 2021 trail boss Silverado and my interior really feels dated ! I don’t have the keyless entry and that’s always a struggle ! Obviously if I make the change I would prefer to go limited for the extra interior goodies but I would also prefer the Le mpg hmmm decisions decisions 😅
201,430 miles, fun! I did the math with ChatGTP, the price of the Prius is 31,000, and the price of the Elantra is 22,000, a difference of 9,000 US dollars. The Prius is set at 65mpg and the Elantra at 33mpg. In the end, ChatGTP calculated at the current gas price of $3.10 that the Prius would need to drive a total of 201,430 miles to make back the $9,000 difference in gas savings compared to the Elantra. If you don't care about the price of the car. If you just like that fuel-efficient-looking MPG, please ignore me.
Toyota dealer markups are insane. If fuel economy is the first buying requirement. After the trap set by the dealer, the price of the Prius is close to that of an electric car, and even the price of the LE model has reached 31,000. It’s better to buy an electric car tesla 3 (Tesla’s continuous price reduction, after deducting federal taxes, it’s already less than $40,000) or a fuel Civic and Elantra
It’s all academic for me as I live in Australia and we may never get this car. If it were available here I would probably go for the XLE or Limited. My existing car is a 2nd Gen I-Tech 2006 Prius. It would feel like a step down to lose the keyless entry and start. I would go for the Limited if that is the only way to get the digital rear view mirror. The loss of the 2nd glass panel on the tailgate reduces vision available to the driver too much without something like that to compensate.
Put my name in for the 2023 Prius Prime back at the beginning of September. Today I went in to ask for the Black color... BUT, to my surprise MUSTARD was available only on the 2023 Prius Prime XSE Premium in Canada... so unless Toyota Canada cannot get them, I am getting a Mustard-colored Prius Prime!
Keyless entry is nice, especially locking/unlocking the doors by touching the handle, although, in my opinion, having a traditional key isn't really something I hate. I kinda hate push button start. Especially if there's ever an issue. Having a key is still nice.
Do you know how light the gray interior is? Is new silver any different from previous years? I’m not crazy about all black interior but light gray will show stains. I’m also trying to figure out the ground clearance on XLE or Limited compared to the 2009 Prius. I think I’ll be stuck with AWD because I live in CT. Dealers only received a few 2022 FWD. Thanks!
@@akiraproject2424 Is this a complicated or expensive thing to do. I’m worried about the extra expense and limited options with 19” tires. When researching 2022 I was bummed about 17 inch compared to 16. Can’t believe they switched to 19!
Has anyone debunked the push start key? Definitely concerning but this has to be a typo surely. They haven't not had the push start since i believe the early 2000s
Bummer, I'm interested in the LE FWD and AWD. I have no interest in the bells and whistles, especially the IMO ugly and less durable 19 inch wheels and tires. In truth I would prefer 16's over the 17's if they would fit. I'm not concerned with race car handling, I'm concerned with durability, coast and selection of tires, especially snow tires. When I'v built the LE I tried to stay as close to the base price as possible. The only option I opted for was the stainless steel catalytic converter shield. Still deciding on paying for premium paint though 🤔.
I agree 💯. Quick question, is it at all possible to get a autodimming mirror (from either XLE or limited) installed on the LE as an option? I didn't see any option for doing so. For me LE AWD is the sweet spot.
@@z1az285 I don't know about the auto dimming mirror as an option on the LE AWD. My 2010 TRD Offroad Tacoma has it and it's nice, I have gotten used to it over the last twelve years but I'm ok with going back to dimming the mirror manually again.

@@johnossendorf9979 I'm not sure TBH, I will check with a nearby dealer. My current car (limited Subaru legacy) has 18" wheels but a 17" spare, so I'm not sure what the Prius has.
I'm waiting to see what prices and options are for the Prime. I'm leaning toward the highest trim after playing with the configurator for the HEV Prius though. I like the sun roof, but I could live with out it. I like the upgrade sound system, but I could live without it. The larger infotainment screen is something I would pay extra for. The power hatch on the back end is worth the extra cost to me. If I could get the power hatch on the mid level Prime, I would probably settle for that. But given that I can get the larger screen and upgraded sound system, sunroof and power hatch on the limited trim, I think I'm going to splurge for it if I can negotiate a decent trade for my 22.
I forgot to mention LE has spare tire and more cargo space vs XLE/ LTD
why more cargo? the LE even has a spare tire that the other trims doesn’t have 😁

So you are 100% certain that LE will need to have the key inserted into the ignition to ready up the car ?, will this be the same on a Prime LE ?
I was told by the dealership today that the LE is push button start. I havent SEEN it but he it assures me it is push button start.
Toyota did the same thing with the key fob when they launch all new the 2018 Camry. I wanted to the LE but they got me to step up to the XLE.
I don’t recall that. The LE Camry is available with the smart key system as part of a package
Camry LE has a convenience package available that gives you smart key and blind spot monitoring without needing to upgrade to an XLE.
The Prius LE still gives you push button start even standard even though you have to press the fob to unlock the doors.
Kirk, do you mean the 2023 Prius are all made in Japan? I thought they are made in N. America except the Prime. Can you please clarify? Thank you.
All made in Japan. Even Corolla hybrid made is Japan
@@KirkKreifels Thank you.
Looking forward to hearing what options will come on the plug-in model.
I'm bummed that the smart key isn't available on the LE (i.e., no Advanced Tech package like the Gen 4 had). So, I'm waiting for an XLE.
Heated seats are standard north of the border, what's wrong with a key? Start buttons cause many vehicles to be stolen. Old school all day
I don’t like the low profile tires, couldn’t find memory seats. The 8 inch screen has the button on the left the 12 inch has the volume button on the right is it too far? Back window visibility looks bad. No fix a flat, give me a wheel.
DRVM (digital rear view mirror) looks like it solves inadequate back window visibility issue.
@@gilbrook yes it would…..I think only available on the limited.
@@roylappin4491 Correct. Limited only.
i agree
@@gilbrook For extra $$$
I wrote to Toyota and got the 700+ page manual for this car. I asked them if the LE comes with push button start. It is in fact Push Button, but does not have the "smart Key" just the old school push button keyfob to open the door not the proximity to open. LE is what I ordered.
does that mean u still put in the key and push the button or we can have the keys in our pockets and atill turn it on?
@@TElias5 can have key in your pocket and start

@@anunnaki4btc417 Thank you!
The LE will be the top seller because because not only because it has the cheaper price but because it gets 5 more miles to the gallon. Not all but most people that buy hybrids to save at the pump. Businesses like cab companies and deliveries will save big with the LE at cost of the car and the mileage for all the driving they do.
need a prime version review man
My LE 2022 Prius Prime has keyless entry. It doesn't give me keyless entry to the rear hatch (which is annoying) but I don't have to use a physical key to start it. I wonder if the Prime version SE model will have keyless entry. IDK why they would go backward on a feature like that.
The majority of the cheapest priest are sold to fleet operations. They want keys.
Nice
Here in Japan you can only pick up the car next year
I plan to buy the Limited for my daughter. Toyota, take my money.
Digital rear view mirror and rear sensors should be available on all models.
Prius for now with the style. When Camry gets AWD hybrid then it could be tempting
Wonder if they will be cheaper out the door than the corolla hybrid 🤔
We have hot summers. I need the ventilated seats that come with the limited. I want those more than heated seats
Some heated seats should have ventilation, ha,ha.
So Kirk, would you consider buying the 2023 Prius?
colors???
So if it's not in production yet the one I saw on the road yesterday must have been an automotive journalist
This definitely worth the money… wow… it’s amazingly awesome vehicle! 👍👍😎😎😎
There is so much miss information on this video...
How much is the dealer markup? 😂
I've heard from 10-20%
@ISAIAH 5417
Them: "call for price"
Me: "no"
Obviously, it depends on the dealer.
Standard (free) at all trim levels: black side mirrors without LED signal lights designed and made in 2002.
It’s better to buy an electric car tesla 3 (Tesla’s continuous price reduction, after deducting federal taxes, it’s already less than $40,000) or a fuel Civic and Elantra
nice vid
It’s all academic for me as I live in Australia and we may never get this car. If it were available here I would probably go for the XLE or Limited. My existing car is a 2nd Gen I-Tech 2006 Prius. It would feel like a step down to lose the keyless entry and start. I would go for the Limited if that is the only way to get the digital rear view mirror. The loss of the 2nd glass panel on the tailgate reduces vision available to the driver too much without something like that to compensate.
Completely agree on the rear glass/digital mirror. LTD!
Xse 33 miles EV Range, se 40 miles ev range, 212hp not 220hp... specs keep getting lower and lower ev range. The hp decrease was a surprise.
Thank you for informative review. Nice car but as for me it's little bit overcharged.
Thanks!
Ground clearance is 6 ".
Ah, Florida. That explains why there's no Prius tests in the snow yet.
Just get a set of 17's for the XLE. Fuel mileage should be equivalent then
and if super ocd have the vehicle calibrated for 17" down from the 19"
@@akiraproject2424 Is this a complicated or expensive thing to do. I’m worried about the extra expense and limited options with 19” tires. When researching 2022 I was bummed about 17 inch compared to 16. Can’t believe they switched to 19!
I am going to purchase the Limited. I like the included features as opposed to the XLE.
Has anyone debunked the push start key? Definitely concerning but this has to be a typo surely. They haven't not had the push start since i believe the early 2000s
I hate how we because accustomed to 30k for the base model when it used to be 20k
Yellow!! LE will do for me. don't like 19-in wheels
Need the spare tire in XLE.
There's multiple sources that say it's available in January.
Production starts late January.
@@johnossendorf9979 Thanks. Just wanted to find out. Really the LE with AWD has everything i was looking for (including a spare tire and more storage), plus i love the guardian grey with black interior for no extra charge.
@@z1az285 I definitely want a spare tire! Is it a real tire like the other 4 or a temporary that is only designed for 50 miles of use ? I heard that insurance might not pay if you get in an accident that can be related to driving a temporary beyond 50 miles .
@@johnossendorf9979 I'm not sure TBH, I will check with a nearby dealer. My current car (limited Subaru legacy) has 18" wheels but a 17" spare, so I'm not sure what the Prius has.
Toyota! Give us the 23 Prius Prime!
