I had a friend that had Gale of Darkness, so i got to play it a little bit. It was really fun😃
I still own my copy of Pokemon Colosseum. It was one of my favorite Pokemon games for a long time and I'm still fond of it.

I respectfully disagree with you on Colosseum being better than XD. I personally enjoyed XD more than Colosseum. Part of that might be the fact I played XD first, but I do have a few other reasons.
Firstly, I think the only actual shadow move in Colosseum (and correct me if I'm wrong) is Shadow Rush. XD added a lot more variety to the shadow moves, and I think it's to the game's benefit, as it makes Shadow Pokémon more usable immediately than in Colosseum. While Shadow Rush is super effective against every Non-Shadow Pokémon, I don't remember it being particularly powerful of a move. And since Shadow Pokémon have all their non-shadow moves locked upon being snagged, it puts a real damper on their usefulness.
Additionally, I really don't like the save system in Colosseum restricting you to only save at computer terminals. It just feels needlessly cumbersome. I hate losing progress just because I missed a shadow Pokémon like an hour after my last save, and backtracking to a pc after every battle is just a headache.
But even with that save system, it wouldn't be so bad if you could get a second chance to snag shadow Pokémon in Colosseum, but as far as I remember (which, again, correct me if I'm wrong) you don't, outside of Suicune, Entei, and Raikou toward the end of the game in rematches with the Cipher admins. In XD, though, you get unlimited chances at all of them, thanks to the man, the myth, the legend, Mirror B.
But that's just my personal opinion, and you of course may feel differently, and I respect that. Colosseum is still definitely a great game, no argument there.

in colosseum, shadow rush is a typeless 80 power physical attack that does recoil to the user and gets a DRASTICALLY increased critical hit rate (i'm talking like, 70-80%) when the user is in hyper mode, making it a really good move if you plan around a boss fight and put a pokemon in hyper mode beforehand. it's not super effective on anything, but it's neutrally effective on *everything* including other shadow pokemon
saving in colosseum does suck that's true
you get a unlimited chances to snag every single shadow pokemon in colosseum, but most of the non-admin shadow pokemon are locked to post-game (trainers respawn in the shadow pokemon lab after defeating evice, and any cipher peons from The Under or Realgam Tower show up at the Snagem Hideout)
edit: xd is still a better game but i have hyperfixated on colosseum's stupid mechanics for years because i grew up with the game
