  • Walkaround of a 1953 BSA C11 250cc OHV Single that I have just bought. Looks to be in pretty original condition and started third kick with a bit of fresh petrol. Going to keep her as she is.

      Yes I had a C11G back in '67. I learned a lot from it.

My friend "Pugsley" had a C11G? How did that differ from the C11? I was the proud owner of a B31 at the time.

The “G” should for “Gooder” 😅
Better brakes, electrics and 4 speed gear box which was an upgrade on the. Standard C11 it the frame # was stamped with an S at the end, which my father has.
      Hope that helps a little.

    CosmikDebriis,
I have an opportunity to buy a 1953 C11 in about the same condition here in the US, what would a fair price be?
Untouched for many years but she still turns over.
Great looking bike by the way.
    Thanks,
    Oran

I can't honestly say I would know a price, prices just seem to keep on rising.
What I would suggest though is looking in on our forum as there would likely be plenty of help and advice on there (including some USA members)... It's free to join.

Thanks for the quick reply, I was thinking in the neighborhood of 1000 USD or 950 euro.
Is that in the ball park?
Not looking for an exact amount but rather "in general" price range
      Thanks again.

You would be lucky in the UK to get one that cheap but maybe USA prices are different. Certainly sounds reasonable though. Good luck and don't forget to check out the forum.

    Is this four stroke?

      Yes they are 4 stroke

They are 4 stroke but before tring to start make sure that the oil pump is not seized/ If it is then the quill shaft will be ruined ( new from drag anfly in UK) but strip pump and using valve grinding paste on glass face off the parts so the oil pump turns freely . Mine had been destroyed by previous owner here in France but since doing as little as poss to keep it safe but working I have done about 300 klms with no probs. Things done new fork springs, new carb, rebuilt dynamo, electronic regulator (DSVR another make both were no good,) headlamp, battery, rear lamp, gaskets, chain, new front brake linings, new twist grip and cable, still to be done fork parts, tyres, rims and silencer.

Rigid back end, pre 1950, so not 1953

Hmm... Whilst I appreciate unsolicited and inaccurate opinions are rife on UA-cam I would suggest you check the the guys at the BSA C10/12 owners cub who will confirm the bike is indeed 1953. (the crossover year between rigid and plunger). And, if that doesn't convince you, you might want to know I met Lillian, the original owner when I rode around her house whilst I was doing a show near Reading some years back. (sadly since passed away).
For that matter I have all the original documentation that came with the bike from new.
      Sorry but 1953 it is.
