I bought this series on Facebook. I have seen it so many times, I understand most of what they are saying, and I'm from the USA. I love it so much, I never tire of it. The actors are perfect for their roles, wardrobe was appropriate for the parts they played. It's wonderful.
Only if Mahi didn’t treat Hurrem the way she did from the beginning.. Hurrem was ready to be friends with everyone but they all treated her with hostility she had to protect herself
From the start of their conflict, Mahidevran is unable to grasp that, while targeting Hürrem might give her some short lived gratification, it will actually work against her in the long run since it only makes Suleiman more aware and protective of her rival rather than less.
it was adorable when hurrem accidentally wished him a good morning full of donkeys lol and the valide allowing mahidevran to insult hurrem when hurrem did nothing to her is just messed up lol
Since it's what I'm known for, I'll bring in a historical aspect here (outside of the fact that Mahidevran has the wrong title here and that Hafsa was no princess, which is well known by now, I hope) which is that, while the show relies heavily on the "tradition dictates" aspect of things, it's considered unlikely that Gülfem was ever a concubine of Suleiman's or the mother of a son. Rather, she's believed to have been a high-ranking harem stewardess and, based on Hürrem's own letters, we're aware that she was a close friend of Hürrem's.
Just realized that it seems odd that at 29:27, Gülşah has to ask for clarification about Gülfem's rank. Based on their closeness, I'd always assumed that Gülşah had been in Mahidevran's service since Manisa, but, if that were the case, she should've been there to see what Gülfem went through. (I know it's just the writers using her for exposition, but I couldn't help pointing it out.)
@@asurmenhandofasuryan4610 Definitely! I've just been assuming otherwise for so long (based off their bond) that this kind of required me to recalibrate the view of her character I'd had for so long.
When Valida talked to Mahidevran about getting a new handmaid to replace Gulsha, Mahidevran pleaded to let her have Gulsha because she had been her servant for 10 years. Mustapha was around 5 years old at that time, so Gulsha had been with Mahidevran 5 years before Mustapha was born. Gulfem had lost her children shortly before Suleiman became Sultan. Gulfem's children died in Manisa, so it should be obvious that Mahidevran and Gulsha were aware of her position in the harem. This is according to the series. Think the writers took a few liberties with these scenes.
the sad thing is that mahi taught her son that suli was a dad then a king and that everything will be his and hers but hurrem taught her kids that hes king, then dad and that it isnt theirs and to be greatful
I don't understand why Mahidevran is so surprised by Suleiman taking Hurrem as a concubine and criticizing her for being a slave. Mahidevran came to the palace as a slave herself. She knew what the harem was like. It's not as if Sultans were monogamous. They had potentially dozens of concubines. In what way was Mahidevran Suleiman's "one true love"? Because he liked her best for a time and she had a son? So did Gulfem. Historical accuracy aside, it seems like she was just delusional from the very start about what her place was.
So, yeah, the criticism over Hürrem being a slave is a little weird? I think it's meant to be a callback to the Venetian report about the beating where Mahidevran defended her rank, but it fits really awkwardly in the dialogue itself? Still, I think Mahidevran's behavior is less about not understanding how the harem works (or we'd be able to make the same criticism towards Hürrem) and more that she knows how it does too well. Suleiman already has a "floor of favorites" but he's also notably pulling away from her. But she still has a guaranteed night with him, one that's a clear sign to others (and herself) that she's still the most favored...and then Hürrem takes it away from her. (I still hold to the fact, though, that she goes about trying to retain her status in literally the _worst_ way imaginable.)
@Redluna32 Totally agree! Mahidevran pushed Hürrem right into Suleiman's arms with her attitude and schemes. He pulled away because she showed her true colors. He even said she wasn't the same Mahidevran he fell in love with. And I don't think Hürrem took Mahidevran's night. Suleiman's gave it to her. He kept her with him for two days. That wasn't Hurrem's doing. She just did exactly what Nigar told her to do by making him happy.
I think once the sultan was tired of burden and knew he could have. Any woman he got tired of her but burden stuck in there she did not budge all the troubles. She she endured with him she stayed true he banished her he exiled her he kept having to sleep around with other women but she was there and the mother along tried to kill her she was still there
These movies are very funny. All the Russian girls already speak Turkish, venetian guy nedeed interpretor but when he went to market he spoke Turkish language. The director should think about these details when he makes a movie. The actors should learn some sentences in other languages.
Do you see... Watykan sticking Their fingers where they shouldn't!!! This is what is happening with this current war it's not all bad Rusia. Zieliński isn't a holy person! He should shu... What actually Hurrem character is hard and abit brutaal. But later she build her self beter and beter eventhough she is hard character still the same.

Yeah and the music/ Pargali's violine SO beautiful...that music transports you to a different epoch...just like a dream

Mahid was the problem from the beginning. She taught her Son that everything was his until valida set him straight. Her Son didn’t stand a chance
Well said. I'm watching it for the 4th time from the start. After Hurrems death I couldn't watch further
He was 5, and then the only son
It is treason to imagine possessing the sultans possessions or to imagine after the death of the sultan.

Suleiman didn't show the air of a sultan only when he was with Hurrem. He was laughing, joking and playful. I quite get a bf-gf vibe from them.
truee❤

The way she always perks at Ibrahim's name aww. So cute. Cute & innocent. Cute & innocent.

She was his concubine, but then became a harem stewardess.
love seeing you in the comments! why i look lol
The true is that hurem is the most loved woman by sultan
Hatice: my brother is the padisah, we can't discuss his choices

Entirely possible that Gulsah only came into Mahidevran's service relatively recently.

So Gulfem was with the suleiman first, had a son, and lost him?

Mahidevran is bad from the starting. She used to hate gulfem for no reason where gulfem was good with her. Such a jealous snake.
the sad thing is that mahi taught her son that suli was a dad then a king and that everything will be his and hers but hurrem taught her kids that hes king, then dad and that it isnt theirs and to be greatful
So cute, Mustafa imitating and following Valide

It’s not about her being a slave or not. She perceives herself as a sultans mother.
Right she was way out if her lane
