There is no defending this idiocy. When are the blind fanatics who WORSHIP these athletes, going to realize that just because they are good at sports, does not mean they know what they’re talking about when it comes to political or social issues. I give Lebron all the support in the world to speak his mind, but he has to realize when you put yourself out there and try to push the narrative that he’s and “expert” on a subject, he has now put himself into that arena and has to be ready to accept any criticism, founded or unfounded that is going to be leveled at him. Shut up and dribble was a statement that he should adhere to. IMHO
That press release was incredibly uninformed. It is not the people of China that he needs to be addressing. The whole issue is that the Chinese government is so controlling and manipulative that the people of China don't even have the right to agree with any pro Hong Kong statements. They have a social credit system that literally determines whether or not you can travel from City to City or even leave your house. These people have to support the Chinese government or they could find themselves under house arrest. It is not the people of China that need to be addressed.
As someone who’s sternly anti-CCP (not anti-China), we really need to stop calling the country communist. They’re more capitalistic than the US. The CCP is authoritarian. They’re brutal. They have no moral compass. They’re the “Chinese Communist Party,” but they’re not communist. That ended in 1976 when Mao Zedong died.
@@WMDistraction They have businesses that operate seemingly autonomously but it's still all centrally planned, and prices for alot fixed so I'd call that communist.
Rusty, I live here. Prices aren't fixed. As trivial, but concrete examples, I've seen the price of Coca Cola change over the years at individual supermarkets while they remain basically unchanged at others. My wife and I just got done shopping around for plane tickets and negotiated the price with the agency somewhat. There is high-level economic planning, but there is no direct control over businesses (which owning a business is not communist in any sense to begin with). There are several large, state-owned organizations, but even they operate like traditional companies within a capitalistic system. A centrally-planned economy can still largely be capitalistic, and the way the economy works here is very much like the early 20th century in the US - extremely unregulated - plus some central planning. Bruggeman, we are talking about the economic system that China operates in. A brutal authoritarian regime can easily be capitalistic (and by so being, isn't communist since they're essentially polar opposites). Communism (which is different than socialism, to be clear - Norway is socialist and doing fine) does not *have* to be brutal or dictatorial, though it pretty much always is because that's what happens when you hand high-level power over to a handful of people and trust them to be fair to the powerless. Besides, the rhetoric of communism is often used when it's simply just fascism. Mao Zedong convinced people what he said was correct so that everything he said was purportedly what the people wanted (Little Red Book, for example). To review: 1. Communism and socialism aren't the same. 2. Don't use those words to label anything you don't like. 3. China is probably more "free market" in most sectors than the US and other typical capitalist countries. Finally, Hitler and Nazi Germany weren't communist...?
@@WMDistraction I love the if it's not pure communism is not real argument. The Soviets did things very different than Mao. I suppose you're going to say that wasn't real communism. Also Socialism and communism are the same. Socialism is just a way of spinning it to make it more palatable. Also yes the Nazi's were socialist. Always be mindful of revisionist commie history folks!
@@rustyshackleferd875 CCP *is not* communist *right now.* They were when Mao was alive, but Deng Xiaoping completely reversed that course because he realized that they were going deeper and deeper into poverty. It's not a case of "not pure communism." It's a case of *not communism.* You can buy anything from anyone for any price. That's capitalism. Just because the regime is brutal and authoritarian doesn't make them communist. Bruggeman, I'm not going to take the time to respond to everything because I don't have the time, but suffice to say, China is a perfect example of a mixed socialist/capitalist economy led by a brutal, authoritarian regime. They are *not* communist. Period. The only vaguely communist thing I can think of is that you can't, technically, own land. You "lease" it from the government for 70 years. And yeah, Mao's cult of personality convinced people that they were the only ones starving. In many people's minds, everything on the outside must have been great because all the news they got was positive. They thought they were suffering for the greater good. That is what a cult of personality *is.* My wife's family went through it in rural China. You couldn't speak negatively of the government and had to rely on propaganda for your information, so it looked like you must've been the only ones suffering. To paraphrase my grandmother-in-law, "I hated Mao Zedong. You know why? I'm fat. I couldn't be fat when Mao Zedong was alive." She hated Mao but couldn't say anything at the time for fear of jail or worse. If she were still alive, she still couldn't say anything publicly. At that time, they *were* communist, but again, Deng Xiaoping changed that in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. Again, *I live here.* I'm married to a Chinese citizen. I have a son. I speak the language. I've researched the topic as it relates to education policy. *I know what I'm talking about.*
He went through a difficult week... what about everyone else’s hard lives? What about the lives of millions of Hong Konger’s? Show me the money Lebron.
@Erik Lerström You don't see the parallels? It's exactly the same. Whether you or I, or even NFL owners, regard kneeling as disrespectful for the flag is irrelevant. The truth is that a lot of people do. It's never been about Kap's message but the method by which he chose to deliver it. There may well be plenty of NFL owners who think Kap would benefit them, but they also know that lot's of paying customers believe he's disrespected the flag and will not buy tickets. So they choose money over signing Kap. This is exactly what LeBron just did. We cannot be naive and ignore what the Chinese government does and how they control their people. Hong Kong still has autonomy and enjoy freedoms like you and I, but that is being threatened by new laws that were passed and they are protesting those laws. LeBron turned his back on saying what is right in this situation. He choose money over principles. So if he were to turn around and criticize NFL owners for doing exactly the same, how could that not be hypocritical? If he had made a stand and said something akin to what Rich Eisen wrote he would have been an instant legend--possibly even positioning himself for a future political career. Unfortunately, he took the low road. That's why fans in Hong Kong are burning his jersey.
@Erik Lerström The dollar amount is relative. I’m sure NFL owners have done the math. If they stood to lose 5-10 million in ticket sales and sponsorship revenue each season than who are you and I to tell them that’s not significant enough? If they think it’s significant, than it is. Furthermore, how in the world do you put a price on principles? When is the dollar amount high enough to dump your principles and what's the point of having them if you're just going to dump them for the right price? I stand by my statement that the “main” reason Kaep is unsigned is because, whether true or not, owners fear a financial backlash. All other reasons are secondary. At the end of the day the NFL is a business and all business owners seek results and a return on their investment. If Kaep would make them money he would be signed.
@Erik Lerström That's getting a bit off topic. I think discussing how we could/should all contribute to make the world a better place is an entirely different conversation. But back to the point: I didn’t rationalize the difference between LeBron and NFL owners by saying the amount of money to lose validates one over the other-you did. To which I said the dollar amount is relative and you just agreed by saying 99% of the world has a price. OK then, so why is it wrong when NFL owners do it, but right when LeBron does it?
@Erik Lerström Riiiight, because this whole conversation has been about staving kids in other countries and had nothing to do with LeBron and NFL owners. You obviously can't answer my last question because I highlighted that you contradicted your own point. Fair enough. Let's consider this discussion over.
Had LeBron actually said what Rich wrote.... I'd go buy his jersey. Seriously, that would have been epic. A true leader mentality and no one could ever disrespect that.
Eloquently said Mr Eisen! Lebron should not have made a comment until he spoke to his PR team first because what he said put capitalism ahead of human rights which is a very bad look...
This is the second time I’ve heard somebody write a statement for Lebron. He’s a grown man. Quit trying to explain what he meant and let his statements hold the weight Lebron what’s his statements to have.
When Lebron called Trump “that so called president” he told half of America their votes didn’t count. That’s why I missed his Morey response, because now when I see him with a mic in front of his mouth, I turn to something else.
If LeBron isn't willing to visibly support the people of Hong Kong vs. the Chinese Communist Party because he's worried about losing $, that's his right but don't then act like you have the high ground when it comes to morality. Rich I hope you've forwarded that statement to him.
Bron's ego got the best of him here. He saw an opportunity to once again show that he's "players first, NBA second" & it backfired because it was involving a subject he clearly knows very little about, in a area where the NBA has already taken heat from the same people LeBron is trying to win points with.
Lebron literally said he was misinformed, which doesn’t even apply to the circumstances. What is there to be misinformed about. Lebron is a clown. Wearing shirts and hoodies and writing stuff on his sneaker doesn’t help a single thing. His true colors came out he is literally thinking of himself...... while telling someone else that they were thinking only about themselves
They're all standing for the same thing money they lose money. Not once did he mention anything about their freedom not the freedom of speech Just freedom in general and if you can stand for the Chinese government you are misinformed.
To be clear, if LeBron made the statement that Rich Eisen proposed, it would’ve never made it to China or they would’ve demonized the whole thing and dug their heels more into soccer for some reason. I’m probably more anti-CCP than most, as a person working in China, but the words we use to talk about the problem are extremely important. The CCP consistently twist and edit foreign narratives to fit their agenda, and it’s difficult to predict how your words will be used against you (even if that’s just radio silence).

I was merely voicing one thought, based on one interpretation, of one complicated event. I have had a lot of opportunity since that tweet to hear and consider other perspectives. I have always appreciated the significant support our Chinese fans and sponsors have provided and I would hope that those who are upset will know that offending or misunderstanding them was not my intention. My tweets are my own and in no way represent the Rockets or the NBA." lebron believed daryl morey was not thinking it through...that was his basic statement. in other words if you're going to start it be able to follow through like a colin kaepernick did

First timer. Here’s my take. God gave Lebron the platform and now he must take a stand for what’s right. So far he has failed to do so. Regarding the President that was his own doing. Martin Luther King met with Lyndon Johnson and he was racist but the CivilRights Act did get signed. If Lebron had any ideas how to make a neighborhood better, improve race relationships etc. then he should have met with President Trump. He was too concerned about being a people pleaser instead of pleasing God.
Hey Rich, I have always been a fan and will always be one, as long as you aren't an undercover villain. I didn't go to MIT, but the lil college I received my minor in business management in made us take an international management class. We had to learn how different cultures do business and how to do business with them. I think the point LeBron was making and a point you are missing is that the tweet was timed poorly and someone from a major University that is also in management, should know when to make that tweet. It was ill advised to do that from the comforts of his home while players were in China. Even with the history of the Chinese killing their own for being Christians. No money or movie can replace life and he was not doing this from an educated stance. Imo
Lebron "I'm not informed on the issue even though I take dozens of trips to China to oversee my businesses and my movie venture Space Jam 2 which will be debuting in theaters all across China in summer of 2020, but I still stand with the fact that I'm not informed with this issue in China" James.

Today was a really sad day for me, the amount of respect lost for LeBron from my perspective is immense. He can redeem himself by speaking up still but I'm not going to hold my breath.
I was waiting for the day we get the real ali. Today wasnt it. This was his chance but it seems the legacy he wants to build for his family is more important and is somewhat understandable. Maybe his son would sacrifice all that his father built and come out and be the next Ali
Don't know why your suprised. Always knew he was a fraud
Your a joke if you believe Lebron and some of these celebs give a dam about anything besides his money.
Mr. Marshall same here
SO YOU FEEL A BLACK MAN SHOULD LOST FOR A PEOPLE THAT HAVE NEVER WALKED WITH THE BLACK COMMUNITY THIS IS HIS WAKE UP CALL THE NERVE OF YOU PEOPLE THINKING A BLACK MAN SHOULD LOSE FOR YOU AND YOU PEOPLE HAVE NEVER WALKED WITH THE BLACK COMMUNITY BLACK MAN WAKE UP
Daryl Morey has dealt with China for decades.
i dealt with them for 10 years too. living and working here for more than 10 years. time to leave.
He literally was talking about the substance of his tweet. If the gm said china is the best LeBron wouldn't have said anything.
At least Michael Jordan stick to who he was and promote freedom in other way that won't contradicted his believe in freedom and justice
Never give them hong kong no mind. i gonna get paid.
- lewong james, 2019
😂😂😂😂 ppl need to realize how epic the name “Lewong James” is
This is what happens when you mix sports with politics.
Tore him apart. Beautiful.
thats why we love rich
Lebron ruined himself in my eyes and everyone I know forever
There is no defending this idiocy. When are the blind fanatics who WORSHIP these athletes, going to realize that just because they are good at sports, does not mean they know what they’re talking about when it comes to political or social issues. I give Lebron all the support in the world to speak his mind, but he has to realize when you put yourself out there and try to push the narrative that he’s and “expert” on a subject, he has now put himself into that arena and has to be ready to accept any criticism, founded or unfounded that is going to be leveled at him. Shut up and dribble was a statement that he should adhere to. IMHO
Rich Eisen! Well done! Indeed you are the voice of reason!!!!
LeWrong James
Great press release from Rich Eisen. I can see why he's in the business of broadcasting
Eisen that was well-written. Send that to Lebron. Maybe he will try again and do better.
Hypocrisy. Orange man bad. Commies that give me money good.
Beautifully crafted statement. Rich is just fantastic. Great perspective as always.
Lebron won’t stand up, that takes real courage.
How many of those who saying Lebron was wrong have spoken for the rights of so called Black folks here in the US 🤷🏽♂️
crickets
rob arm 💯🤝
He went through a difficult week... what about everyone else’s hard lives? What about the lives of millions of Hong Konger’s? Show me the money Lebron.
Lebron: I believe in free speech and civil rights...
...as long as my business interests aren’t directly affected.
What a brave individual.
Lebron I believe in Freedom When it’s Convenient for Meeee James
When Rich shooting at Bron u know it gone land
Dang. No NBA player can ever again criticize NFL owners for not signing Kap.
When you are misinformed?! The only one, who hasn`t a clou is Mr. James here..
Had LeBron actually said what Rich wrote.... I'd go buy his jersey. Seriously, that would have been epic. A true leader mentality and no one could ever disrespect that.
Lebron got exposed but most importantly the NBA like many other American businesses like got exposed
Can't wait for Kaepernick to stand up for the civil rights of Hong Kong
The guy from MIT is not educated.
@mvphigh i think you missed his point. one would have to be pretty bright to go to MIT. he didn't say anything about himself
Lebron has never been right on a social issue in his career
Eloquently said Mr Eisen! Lebron should not have made a comment until he spoke to his PR team first because what he said put capitalism ahead of human rights which is a very bad look...
So money Is The goal Lebron, nota your so calle freedom of speach. I guess when somebody endangers your pocket The freedom of speach is an issue.
I believe this is utterly shameful. Mr James needs to rethink his priorities morals and principles.
This is the second time I’ve heard somebody write a statement for Lebron. He’s a grown man. Quit trying to explain what he meant and let his statements hold the weight Lebron what’s his statements to have.
Rich you nailed it man. Nailed it.
Lebrons a sheep. Growing up without a father does that to you
Lebron is not a sheep he is a selfish ASS
So clouded by the loss of the Green, he couldn't see the red in street of Hong Kong. Just sad...
Lebron "I hate slavery.......
Unless I'm making money off of it" James
Lebron tryin SO hard to sound smart.
Lebron shows how much he cares about himself. That’s all he cares about is himself.
Rich for president
When Lebron called Trump “that so called president” he told half of America their votes didn’t count. That’s why I missed his Morey response, because now when I see him with a mic in front of his mouth, I turn to something else.
Rich, you killed it. Bravo.
If LeBron isn't willing to visibly support the people of Hong Kong vs. the Chinese Communist Party because he's worried about losing $, that's his right but don't then act like you have the high ground when it comes to morality. Rich I hope you've forwarded that statement to him.
He doesn't even have to support them. Just address it
Bron's ego got the best of him here.
Since clearly all that matters to LeBron is protecting his fortune, I guess he should just "shut up and dribble"...
They're all standing for the same thing money they lose money. Not once did he mention anything about their freedom not the freedom of speech Just freedom in general and if you can stand for the Chinese government you are misinformed.
Great speech Rich.
Yeah my dude we needed to just dribble on this🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
To be clear, if LeBron made the statement that Rich Eisen proposed, it would’ve never made it to China or they would’ve demonized the whole thing and dug their heels more into soccer for some reason.
I’m probably more anti-CCP than most, as a person working in China, but the words we use to talk about the problem are extremely important. The CCP consistently twist and edit foreign narratives to fit their agenda, and it’s difficult to predict how your words will be used against you (even if that’s just radio silence).
LeMe James is living proof that money corrupts
Your statement was much better. I’m very disappointed in what he said. Very ill advised. He should’ve said nothing instead of what he said
@Eric Butler I agree. I’m a huge Laker fan and was proud that we had a warrior like Lebron who also stood up for social justice. Now I’m just disappointed smh 🤦♂️
if he said that, he would of won the goat debate on that spot.
Money > Humans rights
Facts
Well said.
Highlighting why I’m selling my LeBron stock. Love LeBron however, now his money is on the line you see him backpedaling on social justice. Revealing that LeBron is a social justice warrior as long as it doesn’t affect his bottom line.
Has anyone besides lebron been to China done any research. Wait before you do on you iPhone made in China ask your self, who’s the real hypocrite here?
ablackprep what I thought hypocrite throwing stones in a glass house
ablackprep inform me then oh great one! Since you are so knowledgeable
@ablackprep are you serious.. lol. You are giving money to a corrupt system. That's worse than selling out, you are paying them.. at least if you were selling out they would be paying you. Loool.
To those who much is given, much is expected. But Lebron won't, none of the money guys will. Change starts with a "Decision".
You said it a 100x better. Wish he had that script during the interview xD
LeSellout James-Zhang
Bron the spokesperson for educated people
So, woke LeBron James doesn't care about the people in Hong Kong more than making money. Pathetic hypocrite.
LeBron is absolutely right....so stop arguing and hating because at the end LeBron always and will be the Goat on anything!
“Hear, Hear”... Well Said.
AMERCA DO NOT suck up to The CCP. This world is great because of us NOT sucking up to the CCP. And China is great because of the CCP...!
Many of us earthlings are different in all sorts of ways and those differences MUST be respected....
Damn Rich !
Your version of what Lebron should've said has me ready to book a flight to Hong Kong !!!
A show of hands from everyone who actually knows what precipitated the reported protest in Hong Kong. I have heard a lot of people commenting on the protest (media included), without actually explaining everything that lead to the initial protest.
MrBrich23 extradition to China
Brilliant
@Erik Lerström k
that statement would have made me an even bigger lebron fan
BRAVO!!!!!!
He’ll spend years of his life complaining about the police in the US though 😂
i want a Chinese Olympic jersey with “James #23” on the back
So true. Very deep and dope statement . I've lost total respect for LeBron.
daryl morey the dude who put the nba in a bad spot said this: "I did not intend my tweet to cause any offense to Rockets fans and friends of mine in China.
My tweets are my own and in no way represent the Rockets or the NBA."
lebron believed daryl morey was not thinking it through...that was his basic statement. in other words if you're going to start it be able to follow through like a colin kaepernick did
I just wonder if people in other countries ever talk about helping America. Do they sit around and talk about our school shooting problems or obesity. Do they talk about our police shootings and say "Yeah let's go stand up for america!" No they dont. We didn't even invent democracy but for some reason it's our responsibility to defend it everywhere. None of you would of done any different in lebron's shoes because none of you will ever be in Lebron's shoes. You are all minuscule in comparison.
Why you defending some fool who don't know you, can care less about you, nor does he even think about you. Your just a sucker who doesn't get it because you bought into the "pro black", "woke" bullshit mentality. Get off the plantation brutha.
Social media. Damage before healing. A celebrity being a hypocrite. It's so rare 🤓
Imo
I’ve been saying that Lebron is a pawn for a very long time now, but people said I was a hater. Lol
Rich's statement would've had so much impact if Lebron had said that
Lebron "I'm not informed on the issue even though I take dozens of trips to China to oversee my businesses and my movie venture Space Jam 2 which will be debuting in theaters all across China in summer of 2020, but I still stand with the fact that I'm not informed with this issue in China" James.
Lebron should be worried about his game. Clippers took it to the Lakers.
