    Hello this is the first video i've ever seen of Silverdollars breeding , i just thought it was impossible in the hobby kind of like bichirs / bala sharks where pretty much noone even tries , may i ask where you from ? i get strong sweden/dk/norway vibes

      Well it has taken a couple of years to actually figure out how to do this and get this good survivalrate of the eggs, there is litteraly no information to be found about how to breed silverdollars and the information in general is not actually accurate, so hopefully this will help people that want to start breeding them.
      I am from sweden :)

    Are the blackberry silver dollars difficult to breed so you know??

    • @MNAquariums
      @MNAquariums  Рік тому

      I don't really know to be honest. I have only been breeding Metynnis, the blackberry are a bit different, they are Myleus, a bit bigger and a bit closer to the pacu.

    I have about 12 parrots and 13 silver dollars in a 125 gallon.. Am I over crowding them? I have an fx6 on the tank and adding an fx4 as well.

    • @MNAquariums
      @MNAquariums  Рік тому +1

      Silverdollars do best in large numbers, but I've never kept parrots myself. Thats a very good filtration so I think it will work just fine. People think so very different when it comes to what is overcrowded or not, but thats a relatively large tank so as long as you think it works it should be good.

    What was the name of the water conditioner you use the item that adds Blackwater goodness like tannin? And would it help with bettas?

    • @MNAquariums
      @MNAquariums  Рік тому +1

      Happy-life RioNequa. I think other brands have something similair. I'm no expert but I know people that use it when breeding fish and to get them in condition to breed. Would probably be beneficial for betta to I suppose.

    would it be a good idea to use methalyne blue for the eggs (it helps neutralize the fungus instead of needing to manually syringe out the bad eggs)

      I would definatly think so, I have the issue that we can't buy it here anymore so unfortunatly its no option for me.

    The tank I have has white small gravel on the bottom. With artifitial large leafs and fine leafs plants. Do you think it will be suitable for them to spawn then fertilize?
    If eggs got fertilized, will there be problem fell and stay at the gravel bottom. Do I need to remove all gravel and leave it bared floor?

      Should work just fine, have worked for me aswell. Just make sure to turn lights off, the eggs seem to be sensitive to light.

    Off-topic question but silver dollar related, and I'm going with if you can breed them, you're gonna be able to help me 😊 There are 2 silver dollar fish that were abandoned by the aquarium maintenance company at my place of employment. My boss wants me to take them but here is my problem. I have a 40 gal bow front that needs to be refurbished. I have a 60-something gallon with a small school of Long-finned danios and my assassin snails and a 75-gallon with my old and large common goldfish and trapdoor snails. Can these silver dollars go in either of the tanks I already have up until I can repair the bow front. I am not really looking to add the population by purchasing more, but those 2 do need to be rescued because their current tank also leaks, so it is only holding about 20 gallons right now.

    • @MNAquariums
      @MNAquariums  Рік тому +1

      That should work just fine. I would put them together with the goldfish if they are fully grown. They are peaceful but I would prefer to put them with some larger fish. I would probably avoid the small risk of getting the longfinned Daniofins bitten. Mind that they also will consume any plants if you have any :)

    • @mommyof4grlz
      @mommyof4grlz Рік тому

      @MN Aquariums they are not fully grown. I'd say they are maybe 3 inches in height. The goldfish tank has 2 potted crinum calamistratum, but I figured since they are pretty goldfish proof, they might be SD resistant as well, a couple pothos and lots of duckweed. It doesn't have any hides and is in a relatively high traffic area because the goldfish is a people fish and believes he is just as important as any human or the cat or the dog. Especially because he was here before both the cat and the dog 🤣 he even watches the television. So I'd have to add some hides for sure. It is also an unheated tank.

    • @MNAquariums
      @MNAquariums  Рік тому +1

      Then try the daniotank 😊 There are no such thing as SD safe plants, and that duckweed will be long gone😅 I dont think they will touch any fish.
