  • Many of us will try anything to de-stress and unwind. Yoga, Pilates, meditation. But what about “forest bathing”?
It's taking off in Japan as a surprisingly simple way to stay healthy.
One doctor even says he has scientific evidence that it could prevent illness.
Al Jazeera's Scott Heidler reports from Nagano.

I thought this was about sitting in a bath tub, with a bar of soap amongst the trees, got that wrong...

I would prescribe all my patients the forest! Except they'll bring their iphones, ipads, laptops, and entire offices along with them.

It's a good prescription... but you're also right about the gadgets, most people are practically surgically attached to their phones these days - I'd hazard a guess and say that the wi-fi present in these gadgets would cancel out any benefit being derived from being in the forest?

I am happy in a small town, it's close to shopy, cinema etc but also like 5 min walk to forests on any side.

no need to study that, it's common sense. Less stress and clean air.

This concept is rather biased. What about places that don't have natural forest cover, e.g. desert or prairie environments?

It's called inhaling fresh air in the woods. Now the Japanese are calling it, forest breathing. Same old, same old with a new name.
