    I emigrated from Sweden 10 years ago and as soon as I hear a keyfiddle I just feel so warm inside. The most Swedish sound i know.

      @@EmelieWaldken I’m interested in potentially getting into learning how to play one. I know of a guy in the United States who builds them for people, but can I ask a little bit about how do you tune it if it gets out of tune? How do you maintain and care for it when you have no one around besides yourself? And perhaps most importantly? Where or how do you find and write sheet music for it?

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  3 роки тому

      @@usaskjock The tuning is not that difficult at all =)
      - The playing strings (4 big ones on top) are tuned C-G-C-A traditionally (I tune C-G-D-A for more versatility). From the closest one to you to the one closest to the fingers. Same range as a viola.
      - The resonance strings can have various tunings but the idea is to have the 12 half-tones of the full chromatic scale. Many people start on a G or G# and then go chromatically all the way. Basically any schema works as long as the strings are tensed just enough.
      For maintenance I highly recommend turning to a violin builder, or a good guitar builder. They might open weird eyes at first but they can help a lot. A hurdy-gurdy maker can help too, especially about the keyboard.
      Find other nerds ! Many can do some maintenance themselves and can help you.
      Also join some FB groups about the instrument for any question you might have !
      You can play pretty much everything on nyckelharpa, so any sheet music of what you want to play will do =) G-clef (soprano) it is, or possibly viola clef if your nyckelharpa has 4 rows and therefore a viola range. Note that as it's a folk instrument we usually play entirely by ear, without sheet music (but many people do use sheets when needed).

    Riktigt jäkla vackert. Svärfar byggde en egen nyckelharpa innan han gick bort. Funderar starkt på att plocka upp den o försöka lära mej. Måste bara lista ut hur man stämmer den

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  6 років тому +2

      Vilken fin historia om den nyckelharpan ! Javisst det vore jättekul att spela på den ! Gör det ! Oftast är nyckelharpan stämd CGCA (nerifrån) och om resonanssträngar varierar det men du kan börja med det enkla G-G#-A-Bb-B-C-C#-D-Eb-E-F-F# (alltså kromatiskt). Lycka till !

    • @EmelieWaldken
      @EmelieWaldken  2 роки тому

      The tunes I teach in my Scandi Folk Tunes videos, I give the scores for on my Patreon. Klinten, however, is a tune composed by Markus Svensson and therefore he is the only one holding the rights to its score =)

      @@EmelieWaldken- OK, I managed to understand that as I found out who he is. Anyway I love the piece but it's too hard for me at the moment ! However this afternoon I visited your patreon site and "normally" subscribed, (e mail and bank identity, photo etc). I really like the pieces you use for your first lessons. However now I've done that how on earth do I accede to the scores? They don't say anything about that afterwards. And they give no access code either! I don't really understand how it all works! All they ask me is to say who else's work I like and give reasons. It feels a bit as though subscribing was a waste of time. I can only hope it all works out in the end! So here I am listening to the #1 piece, Harjedalen schottisch and writing it all down myself! I also spent all morning trying to understand all the Swedish written on the Wikifolk site, with a dictionary! I don't know if I got very far! Is there no way on the mobile of getting Google to put it all into English? No button to push? It would be so much easier! I've been working hard non stop all day! And still am! All help is truly welcome! I wish you a peaceful evening!
