Doggie Mama My house is 120 yrs old and my dining room floor is only oak on the border and cheap rough pine on the interior. They used to do this to save money and would throw rugs over the center. I painted and stenciled the middle with a historically correct stencil and it looks awesome. My kitchen floor is also painted and I love it. Painted floors are surprisingly easy to care for. Jami, you did an awesome job!!!🥰🥰🥰
It looks amazing! Love that soft warm white tone for the floor. When I was 3 we moved into the old family home built in 1850. Each room had a hardwood “picture frame “ style floor with pine boards as the “picture “. After all, everyone would have their turkey carpet so why waste hardwood in the middle. My mother scraped, sanded etc just as you did. She raised pitch out of the pine boards and had to seal them first. This was about 1968 or so and some of the products we have now were not dreamed of, let alone readily available. So she cracked open the window and used dark brown oil base paint so the sealer would not show yellow. Oh it stank. We waked on board pathways for a while but afterwards it looked fantastic. The rooms all had tall windows so there was tons of lights to offset the brown colour. Then, of course, we put a carpet on the centre of the floor. We both have sympathy and empathy for all of the hard work you did to get that amazing looking floor and in white to boot! Your house is an amazing testament to hard work, vision and determination. I can hardly wait to see the final product. I bet you hardly wait too!
I grew up with something like this, but in my grandparents' house, my grandpa laid oak flooring and then carpet. When we bought their house decades later, my husband and I pulled up the carpet and finished the oak floors. Upstairs, the floors were all wide plank pine and we painted them. Great memories!
I’m remodeling my farm house now and I have pine floors and originally it had the a 2’ wide border around the outside of the room and the inside was sheet linoleum. I think I’m gonna do the same as what your mother did and sand the floors first to flatten them out then paint with a chocolate brown oil based paint. And then I can top coat with an oil based poly , water based will wear thru in a year or two and does not last. I was a builder also and made that mistake on ten homes and had very unhappy clients and then had a very unhappy banker when I had to pay for all those floors to be redone again, lol Since my home is an actual farm house, I’m always dragging dirt in unfortunately and white will show it too much even if I sweep 3 times a day but love the chocolate brown and think it will be beautiful. I took the flat ceilings out of the entire house and have vaulted ceilings in every room now so that with the light from the windows should offset the dark floors. I’m glad someone has already been down this road and thinks it looks nice as well. Take care
Yeah, a working farmhouse might make it tough on the white floors. That’s one of the reasons I pushed to pour concrete all around the house to help keep the dust and dirt out. We’ll see if it works with 8 people living in the house lol.
Jami Ray Vintage I wish it wasn’t like that cause I sure love the clean look of the white but I think what I’m gonna do will look good also, I don’t want to be married to a broom or vacuum 4 hours a day, lol. The kitchen looks amazing!! My design is similar to yours but I gotta admit that I’m really envious of that fridge/freezer combo!! I’ve wanted that for years but I just can’t fit it in without a small bump out and I can’t go thru all of that right now. Do you mind giving me the rough dimensions of your kitchen room by chance just for comparison sakes?? And did you guys build that cabinets also or did those come from a cabinet shop/manufacturer?? Thank you so much! It looks so good, your getting there!
Wow I really like those floors guys. Our house is 122 yrs old. Parts of it still have the horsehair in the walls. There were round holes in most of the rooms near the ceilings for some kind of heaters or wood stoves. The larges room in the house, the diningroom had no electricity and there is still so much that needs to be done to it but we are tired now. Im tired watching you but I wish I had it in me to finish it. I feel in love with this house the minute I walked in the door.
Love, love, love!!! I still love my painted and stenciled floors in my 3 upstairs bedrooms after 10 years! There is just something about making your space unique, to you.I hope the people that said white floors would be too sterile can now see how clean, bright and spacious a white room looks. It's kinda like critiquing an artists drawing or painting when they are half way done. I usually wait until the finished project before I put my 2 cents in. The floors will get more beautiful as they get worn from foot traffic. Great job guys!😊
We painted our floors with Marine Paint & couldn’t be happier 2 yrs and still looking great Beautiful New Farm House you’ve built. That floor paint is pretty. TUFS
Such hard work for a brilliant effect. I always used warm white on walls because everything looked good against it and the light quality was amazing! Blessed and safe days!
I absolutely LOOOOVE the soft ivory white on the floors against the brighter walls! With your French country touches you'll be so glad to have those mixed whites. Lovelovelove..AMAZING job! 💕💕💕
I agree with the other lady...at Christmas it will be a winter wonderland! How beautiful and clean it looks!...it still is fun watching y’all working so hard and to also wait for all the well planned results!...I love your farm house so much!...God bless y’all and stay safe and healthy!
Beauty is in the imperfections. It’s a farmhouse. Character equals beauty. I love all the different shades of whites. They all blend together beautifully. The floors are gorgeous y’all.
Poor Jami. Bless. Y’all have worked so hard. I know you’re ready to just be done, and enjoy. But you’ve done such a great job, and you should be soooo proud.
There’s some kind of beautiful Ray Family metaphor going on here: Zeb has built a sturdy roof, Jami has made a solid floor ... creating a safe space for their family in-between 😊 💓

Both the roof and floors look fantastic👍👍 The furniture that you put in these rooms will really stand out against these floors and walls. Definitely can see the warmth in the floors.TFS😊😊
When you get older, you will sure appreciate that you made things white and bright. The old eyes are never what they used to be. I love the color you used. My you should be proud. All that work is paying off. It is looking great. Lived seen no your videos of Debbie's opening.

I can't wait for that!!❤❤ You guys are A Force To Be Reckoned With!!💪💪👫

I LOVE THIS LOOK 👍❤️❤️❤️❤️👍. Love that warm white floor with the walls..... I would jump up and down...but had heart surgery so my “EXCITEMENT REACTION” is limited for some weeks ! BUT I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THE LOOK ! That stenciled tile , the floor, the walls....the fireplace .....oh my loving it ALL !!!!
Had the old ruff cut native lumber on a ceiling, we exposed. And the only thing I could find to clean, was a straw broom. Anything else I tried just left more dirt & particles of anything & everything on it. It was kinda like you had to scrub the cobwebs & dust off the native lumber. Because they stuck to the tiny ruff cuts.. I had used boiled linseed oil to finish them, to give them a sheen. Because they where so dry. But the ceiling was a dust & cobweb magnet. I loved it anyways, but it was trail & error to find something to clean it & hard work to keep it clean. Possibly because you painted & sealed yours it won't be so hard. I put the linseed oil on with a brush & had my first experience with the spontaneous combustible reaction. As I was throwing the blue paper shop towels I wiped the linseed oil off after it would run down my arms & put them in the trash can. There was an awful smell coming from it & it began to smoke. So luckily I noticed before it got to out of hand & took them outside. It had been snowing & snow was on the ground, so I placed them all over the ground to put the smoking fire out. I feared if I put them in the dumpster they would cause the whole dumpster to catch fire. This is going in my book of What Not To Do.. lol What made you decide on that piticular sealer? Besides the water base? The floor looks fabulous & that roof is so nice! What alot of work went into both. But they make the look you are going for! ♡

That was 10 yrs ago and I love doing stuff "the experts" said I couldn't do, lol! You guys are so cute working together! You Rock! You're right about the little black bugs, ha!
Love the farmhouse. You can't worry about imperfections. Old houses will have many and newer ones will have them too later has they become older. The floor looks great.

Zeb u did a beautiful job with the Roof gorgeous...👍 Soo nice ... The floor painted looks great , u have taught me so much , I always run to my hubby n show him something all the time n say look we can do this DNT u think? N my hubby sometimes says ya or let me see that , he gets really into looking at what Zeb did with the roof . So now when I want something done I just say look what Zeb did ... Lol
You can really see the difference in the color when you are painting by the hutch. You are really seeing waayyy more of the floor than when your house is full of furniture and rugs. It will be fine, I promise. Zeb, you only need to fill the well on the paint tray, lol
@@JamiRayVintage We are painting our floors this weekend. I’m looking for a extra large stencil for our kitchen floors. White floors with an bamboo color stencil. Any suggestions on a stencil? My style is farmhouse/bohemian.
