I'm super excited about this new product line. Check out my full comparison against the Google Home Hub and JBL Link View: ua-cam.com/video/Wwpj2osGQb8/v-deo.html
Tech With Brett Can you set another Home/Chromecast Audio as the 'Music Device'? So the display casts only music to the other device?
Ed Thomas Yes, I have the regular Google home and a Chromecast audio connected to a speaker system in the ceiling. In the Google home app you just change the default music playing device. Now, when I asked the Google home to play a song it plays on the Chromecast audio unless I tell it to play on the Google home!
David B But can you do that with this Smart Display and if so what is the behaviour? Does it show album art on the screen and play audio on the Chromecast Audio? Thanks for the info.
When the nest Hello rings does the video pop up on the display?
If I share my google photos with someone who has a smart display will it show up on the smart display?
Liked the way "Ok google" was handled so that it doesn't trigger viwers Google home devices
Yes!
Just bought this for my grandma, she uses the google home mini a ton, she will love this! Thanks for the in depth review!
Great full review - appreciate your time in making this.
Thank you Brett for a clear and precise explanation for this Google Home format and device.
Excellent video. I can't wait. My 10" version arrives via UPS tomorrow.
Adding a visual screen to actually see my smart home functions taking effect gives me more assurance. Plus actually seeing the answers to some of my questions for Google gives me better understanding.
Thanks for making another amazing video. I always saw videos about it but they never gave a link to buy it. Thank you so much ! :)
Nice review. Can’t wait to get mine in.
Thank you for your comparison. It sounds exciting! Can't wait to get one.
Awesome device! Got mine, love the camera shutter feature the most. I usually cover my cameras with post-its, but no longer need post-its for this device lol! Makes me less paranoid on having people watching me haha
Great informative review Brett!! May have to get the 10" version soon
Thanks a thorough first review. You covered important details to help with making a purchase decision. Hoping for a Canadian release soon Great job!
I was waiting for your review. Now I am sure about it. Time for order :)
Great video. You have much better details about the display than a lot of other videos. From one Google fanboy to another, thank you.
Thanks! I do my best to always find out as many details and it is always easier to retain the info of the stuff I really like.
have you got it though? I used to only rock the mini and got this when it released. Now I technically have 2 Google Assistants, but connected to 1 brain lol.
@@MichaelScott-iw5mr get them a couple Alexa's as girlfriends and let the party begin :)
Sweet. This is a must buy. Especially loving the updated Google Home app on my phone too right now.
I love the update as well! Much easier to control everything.
Can I just say a big THANK YOU for self-muting the "OK Google" commands? That was BRILLIANT and I wish all UA-cam creators did that! 👍
You are welcome!
The camera and mic shutter is just one of many awesome features the device offers. Recommended!
Picked my 8 inch mode up at Walmart yesterday on clearance for 45$. Loving it so far. Big step up from the google home mini I used to have. It can even stream Hulu.
Great video! I was hoping you would review this thing.
Just got the device. Thanks, very helpful. Wish it would do portrait mode
Great video! Just ordered mine!
I love how they made the camera shutter. I usually cover all my cameras with sticky notes lol
Great job, much appreciated. 👍
Great review! This was just recently updated from version 4 to 5! Could you cover any new updates?
thanks for the nice review 👍👍👍
Brett Awesome review really enjoyed and absolutely the same like Visually seeing the product as well. Its funny I could not sleep the other night started to read some things about it and fell out.So I did not get a chance to follow up.Glad you reviewed because I read they were coming out with it and again didn't have a chance to get back to this. Its definitely nice for someone who cooks too.To just have it displayed rather than a phone and I can see down the line when it gets used to the commands it will get better with time. Also nice to listen to News or Music as well.So Thanks so much really enjoyed Deb 👌👍
Thanks Deb! Glad you liked it!
Excellent review good sir thank you :)
Well done Brett.
My favourite part of the video is casting on the Smart Display
Think I might ask for this for Christmas
Brett you deserve a pat on the back mate , your in depth but laid back explanations/tutorials and reviews are super easy to listen to , and looking at your video`s it is easy to see you put a lot of effort into them , well done sir !
While i`m praising you up here :) , i have been thinking about this device a lot , but just wondering , does the lenovo smart display have a head phone jack , or can i connect my bluetooth phones to it ???
Cheers .
It is very nice to watch Utube videos. Great speakers and picture.
I love hearing the feedback from the other side! Make sure you send feedback to Google cfor anything that is missing.
I call it UTUBE. yes youtube

Great review Sir.
Just ordered one.
Mine arrives today in a few hours. We will see.
Love your video you're a great teacher
Thanks! 👨🏫
I need this!
Hmmm... didn't think I needed this, but now I'm intrigued.
It is definitely worth a look! With how much the Google Home has changed in 2 years it will be interesting to watch this grow as well.
Stephen McFarland If I'd be in your place, I'd be waiting till the Christmas season. Coz there is a very slim chance of Google releasing their own smart display in Oct. If that wouldn't be the case, then, would probably get a huge discount on this beautiful device till that time
Well done review. Thanks.
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
Picked one up at Costco for $139 today.
I 👍 your reviewing 👏
Thanks for the nice review Brett!
For sure, this is going to be the portable voice-interactive personal device / gadget of the future home.
Google Assistant enabled Smart TVs were launched by Sony last year; can you please do a review of that? Thanks.
Good review Brett... Bought 10" from Lenovo (beat most big-box retailers on BLACK FRIDAY) for kitchen use & two 8" units for extended family to use Google Duo. Key point is that is an "Assistant", not a tablet! P.S. Replaced Echo Dot from last year.
I purchased this device today for a black Friday deal price(extended) which is CAD129. Setting it up was a breeze. It has an awesome screen and does everything my Home Mini does and much more!. I am so glad I was able to find this for this price. I wouldn't have bought it for more. Don't get me wrong. It is absolutely worth even at a higher price. I wanted an assistant device with display but wasn't ready to pay more than CAD100. During sale, Nest Hub was going for CAD89 but I didn't like it because of two things, 1)It is without a camera. What is the point of making a video call if the other person can't see you! 2) I hate the design. It looks like someone made a stand with clay in quick time and slammed a 7'' tablet to it. It sells for CAD 169 regularly. These two concerns didn't let me buy it even when the price came down to CAD89! Lenovo Smart Display 10" just rocks!
Interesting device, I love the fact that google is expanding to video as well. Not that i need this right now but definitely a dear santa thought, smile. Excellent information as always. I will stay tuned for any thing that interesting me. I do recommend you youtube site a lot. Until next time, cheers
Thank you Tom!
What about Nest doorbell? Does it work well? And security cameras?
I would like to see a device like this without the screen that you can hook up to your tv for the display ( HDMI), maybe with a remote wireless mic so you can have the mic close for accuracy and a large wireless mouse pad to use as a controller so you can use it as a remote touch screen type deal. You could even have the mic built into the mouse pad I guess.
Good information
Great review. Do you know if you can make a device to device call like an intercom?
I have Echo's devices, but I like Google's software. Very smart. Very informative. Alexa needs some updates. I agree that this device design isn't that impressive. I like the bamboo though. Great video bud.👍
Go Brett that Is so cool
Boy! Was this quietly released with no fan fare. I only knew it was out when i googled it the other day. Picking mine up at best buy in a couple of days. Really excited. I purchased the echo show a couple months ago and took it back to the store a couple days later. It sucked! With echo, everytime i asked to see a video, mostly youtube videos would show in the results and of course youtube videos are not playable on the echo show.
Great review. Does the power supply support 220 voltage?
Yes. They always do
Thank you very much, Brett. I follow all your videos. You are the man. I'm building my Smart Home. I have Google Wi-fi (x3), Google Home Mini 14 spread by the roof of the house, 1 Google Home in the office and also bought the Lenovo Smart Display 10" for the kitchen. I am extremely anxious for the completion of construction, I am connecting the whole house (doors, lights, cameras ...) Despite all the excitement with the Google products, I will not be able to use all the functions available to you, since I am Brazilian and the Portuguese language has not been updated yet.
Muito obrigado, Brett. Acompanho todos os seus vídeos. Você é o cara. Estou construindo a minha Smart Home. Estou conectando toda a casa (portas, luzes, câmeras...). Apesar de toda excitação com os produtos Google, não conseguirei utilizar todas as funções dispostas à vocês, pois sou brasileiro e o idioma português ainda não foi atualizado.
What happens if you choose English in the language settings?
@@TechWithBrett I appreciate your feedback. I can not make calls through Google Home, for example. I have already contacted Google and have been informed that some features are not yet available here.
Super great, really want it.. BUT.. only available in the US.... bummer
This thing is the future.
I’d like to see a side by side comparison with the ECHO SHOW 2 and this LENOVA SCREEN that does not appear on googles website.
What would be ideal if they played news on a live feed.
Great review, but honestly-- the reason I have an upvote was because you didn't actually say the "ok Google" hot words. I'm not sure why other reviewers feel free to sling it around, but know to avoid saying "Alexa". All this to say: you, Sir, are a saint.
Haha! You are welcome!
I was thing how good this would be for the kitchen
Portrait would be great for having a recipe pulled up you are following instead of a video. Too bad it won't let you do that. I did buy the 8" version for myself for Christmas (to use in the kitchen) and the Google Home Hub for my wife's desk. Have not opened either yet but am anxious to try them out.
Enjoyed your review. Do you think the Lenovo Smart Display could replace a bedroom alarm clock radio (stream internet audio on a timer, snooze, alarm...etc.)? If yes, can it be done via an app and touching the screen instead of voice commands? Thanks.
I'm getting this for my kitchen
It fits in really nice!
Great idea! It's been very useful for me in the kitchen now that I've been trying to cook up new recipes for the family. And...I'm loving how mine goes so well with my marble kitchen tops ;)
Rachel Cruz marble or granite?
What lights are in this view? Also, how many are used and where are they located, in this scene?
The bamboo coating on the back of it reminds me of a beach house during a Hawaiian sunset.
I am setting up and liking it so far. No kitchen! jajaja
Ok.. is very good.... I can use HOME ASSIGNMENT for device ..????
Great stuff again Brett !! I have hooked Logitech Harmony at my Google Home . Now on the phone there is ofcourse a Harmony app wich you can control your media. What will Lenovo do with the Harmony? will it show also a virtual remote on the screen? thanks in advance
Most likely right now it will act just like the Google Home. I will get mine fully setup and see what I can find out.
How does this compare to the Google nest max now that it has a camera now
btw great channel great information
Now that it has been a couple of years, do you feel this device has enough CPU to keep up with what the Google Assistant Smart Displays can do or is it getting slower and slower as the capabilities increase? I have notice that some other UA-camrs have commented on this and wonder what you think.
Can you do a back to school video please showcasing how well the smart display can help and display information to a student compared to an Android tablet. Maybe you can have a teacher be a guest discussing the topic?
I'm still trying to understand how this makes things easier or better. The thing I like about the Google home is that I don't have to use my hands at all to do anything. I don't have to go touch it or look at it. I can from a distance say hey Google what's the weather forecast and it would tell me while I am doing laundry. Why do I want to 'see' the forecast report as well? As for looking at UA-cam or TV you can do that with tablets. Then the video call is limiting because you have to stay in one spot while using it. I wish Google would put more time into making the text messaging and email functions work in Google home. Being able to send a text or email or have them read to you by voice command would be awesome.
It does, I used to think the same way until I got one. You can see a significant difference in your living environment. Probably the best feature of the smart display is the routines. Routines works so well, every morning and night I have my routines set up for the day, and it's connected to my lights, switches, Google calendar, and a lot more. You should definitely try it out!
Think about the usefulness if you’re in the kitchen and want to pull up a recipe without trying to go ingredient by ingredient as many with google home devices do now. If you don’t want to press buttons, you don’t have to. Again, it works as a voice command device first and foremost. As for sending to phones, you can do that now. All I have to do is say “okay google, send this to Niki’s phone” or “okay, google, show me google hub vs Lenovo videos on the living room tv” and bam! My kids love this feature, too.
One downside, and this is important: Google Home devices don’t support multiple users if you’re a paying Google GSuite user. There’s a pretty rowdy thread on that happening now on the support forums.
Can you control other products in the home other than lights with this?
This video is finally here!
Finally!!! 🤪
Hi Brett, thanks for sharing this great review. One question I have is, can we do video call without needing the other side to click answer? Something that allows me to be able to see and walk to kids at home anytime.
No, someone needs to answer the call on the Smart Display. I would like to see something like this added as well.

Do you know how to get the Nest Hello door bell to automatically stream on this smart display when it's rang?
You need to Allow for new Google Assistant permissions on the Nest app and make sure it's Google Assistant integration is turned on and as long as you are in the same WiFi it should work.
I have a hard question for you. Remember your video on visual responses for chrome-cast, do you know if there are anymore commands for that now the lenovo smart display has released, right?
Great review. Does this have a battery so you can pick it up and use it temporarily in another room or patio where there is no 110 V outlet?
Great question but no it does not. It is meant to be plugged in.
Is this worth it for youtube, google assistant and placing orders for stuff?
I like it. I just wish it did more. But as I understand an update from Google coming soon. Some of the things that work with it is a little expensive.
I’d like to see how games such as madlibs, lucky trivia, akinator, etc use the screen
Just purchased the 8" for $99 at Bestbuy...
I was contemplating the Google Home Hub, but this has a better display and sound. No Brainer!
You will love it!
yep got 2 -one for son in the army to video chat -u cant do that with the 7"hub
Hi Brett. Are you going to review the JBL Link? I know it's similar, but it will help us with our choices. Thanks.
I am not positive I will yet but I will see if I can make it work.
Hey Brett...Can it display pictures and play some music in the background?
Recieved my 10 inch version yesterday, set up easily a little confusion about the video call service but other than that all went well until I tried to add it to my group of three other Google home speakers one of my favorite features is filling the home with my favorite music but I could not add this new speaker to my speaker group. Gave up yesterdaay and tried again this morning, called Lenovo Help Desk and after a long wait was told that they could not help me and gave me a number to call their Tech direct. The number they gave me connected me to Best Buy Geek Squad! and after I explained the problem they were more than happy to come out and set it up for $100. I am currently on hold with Google Home Tech Service and have been for about a hour now, granted most of that time has been waiting for them to get through to Lenovo (just got back to me and Lenovo cut him off) I give up after 1hr and 30min Google Home Tech Service told me to call Lenovo back and ask for a supervisor. It seems at though noone has been brought up to speed on this new device. While I have been waiting I happened upon this video that seems to answer my question (thank you) but in rereading all of the marketing it sure seems as though the are saying it would connect to other Google audio devices. This is a deal breaker for me and I'm packing it up to ship back.
I am glad you found my video! I have heard this a few times. From what I understand it has the technology to do it it just has nor received the proper update for it to work. I don't think it will take long but yes it is currently not available.
Brett, does it work with iHeartRadio and will it connect to my Bluetooth headphones
Great review, looks pretty good. Will wait for future updates. Don't want to be stuck with a half baked product. Also huedynamic has an app out for Android. Could you review that please?
I finally have my Hue lights! Video coming soon!
lenovo has the 8" for 100 right now. see their website or walmart
Will it display location sharing in maps?
Just one question, is possible to pair with external Bluetooth speakers? I can maybe understand build in speakers are good but I would love connection with my KEF Egg's.
Nice review, Brett but it's not a purchase I could justify, personally.
There is certainly a time and a place for everything!
It's on sale right now for $99 get it now.
@@6maxwell99 where?
@@dontedupree my bad. That's the 8 inch one on sale at Best Buy.
How do you purchase a New Cord Connector
Can I control the volume by voice?
Can you play things that you loaded on to your phone in the google music app?
Can you add arlo cameras to it?
Hi! I just got this and I cant seem to find a way to display a full month calendar. I wish they will fix this on an update. Thanks!
Make sure you say, "Hey Google, Send feedback" to suggest this feature.
Can I mirror my android phone screen to this using chromecast?
What communication protocols does it use to communicate to home devices like door locks, lights, thermostats, etc.? Zwave? Bluetooth? Zigbee? wifi?
It just connects over WiFi to any connected service or hub that you have.
Awesome
How does this or the new Google Hub work with multiple users and calendars and calls and such?
