I tend to enjoy music written for both the right and left brain, a combination of emotion, intensity, and intellectual sophistication that requires high technical performance. My old myths about the last centuries music were about the left brain stuff. UA-cam and those contributing symphonies that offer a blend that dis-spells my myths about the period. This is an awesome piece.

I really enjoyed listening to this. The Symphony is melodic and maintains one's interest. The performance and recording are first rate. Thanks so much for posting.

What great music! Thank you so much for uploading this masterpiece! I had the honour of listening to the world premiere in 2005 (Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Wladimir's son Mikhail Jurowski). It is a shame that RSB did not release that wonderful concert on CD. By the way, to celebrate Wladimir Jurowski's 100th anniversary the British premiere of his First Symphony will be performed on June 21, 2015 by the Central England Ensemble under Lee Armstrong in Birmingham (Carrs Lane Church Centre).

The best Tchaikovsky's Manfred symphony register was performed by Yurovski and the London Symphony Orchestra.
    Intensely dramatic as "Manfred"!

I believe this is the same man who composed the soundtrack for the 1969 Mosfilm restoration of Pudovkin's masterpiece film "The End of St. Petersburg". It's a wonderful composition, but it seems to be unavailable anywhere besides the Kino DVD, which for some reason is rather badly distorted.

I stumbled on this subject just now. On IMDB, the name is spelled 'Vladimir Lurovski'. Intreguing, to say the least.

thanks for this. I had not heard of this composer (or indeed many you are posting). His style is an interesting amalgam of Sibelius and the Russian school. Not essential but deserving of the exposure you are giving it.

My whole view of twentieth century symphonic writing has to be radically overhauled after listening to this symphony!

THE MORE COMPOSERS AND THEIR MUSIC YOU EXPORE, THE MORE YOU FIND THAT IS UNEXPLOED BY YOU OR INDEED BY MANYM IF ANY, WITH PERFORMANCES AND RECORDINGS OF THE RAREST HARD TO FIND IF INDEED THEY EXIST !!!!.

This is the grandfather of the great conductor Vladimir Yurovsky of LPO came. His father Mikhail conducts this symphony but I don't understand why junior or brother Dimitri don't.

Hi,does anyone know if this is the same performance as the CPO release of 2015? I ask because the Conductor is the same-thanks.

No, it isn't the same performance. It's even a different orchestra: in this one, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin is playing.
