I bought both the produce and perform courses 10days back and went through all the videos. I am so astonished by how much knowledge, samples, tools you have shared in the courses! Both Rachel & Mary have such giving mindsets, also saw how Mary Spender gives away guitars on several videos. Spender in German actually means one who donates. Course is super practical and gives you tips from simple setups to full on live looping, anyone needing a boost in confidence this is for you!
Did you take the course? Do you do live performances before taking the course, and if yes, how much the course helps you improving your performance?
@@priawanwibisono2261 yes I took the course, I did some performances before but always struggled to make it engaging and smooth! The course helps a lot because it goes through several ways to do performances so you don't have to jump straight in to live looping everything and doing everything from scratch.
@@JamesRamboPearce did you by any chance do the other course as well (production)? If so, which one was more helpful and would you think there is a recommended order in taking the courses?

I never bought any online course but this one will be my first and I'm sure I'll have no regrets!! I just switched from FL Studio to Ableton 10 Standard and it's a lot better than FLs imho.
It's more than fruity, it's a live host, so it hosts effects and plugins with low latency at near real time also it syncs with other computers and midi, it works perfectly live on apple architecture. I play live on a 2020 macbook air with the 11 suite and it's great.
Great investment learning from a master of ableton such as Rachael.
What is it that you find is better? I've been using FL for few months now.. It would help for real if someone could give a gap analysis, what ableton does better.. Thinking to move to ableton but i need to know
After 3 years fun and intense work with FL I started with Ableton + PUSH and it feels great. Since I do that I follow Rachel and I love her videos and tutorials! 🙂
To the question, is Ableton better than FL, I mean both DAWs have pros and cons. My impression after a few months with Ableton: Ableton is very good for creative work, recording (I love the new Comping Feature) and live performance but it feels also limited in several ways, if you did deep work with FL before. In my opinion FL is much better in Audio Editing plus Mixing/Mastering and has a lot of great Stock Plugins that I really miss in Ableton (e.g. Edison, Newtone, the FL Piano Roll, Flex, Harmour, ...)
@@Michael-dz3dk Thats just cause you are coming from FL. FL is for beat makers, having used it myself it's great for that. Ableton is very streamlined and simplified, many complicated functions hide in front of you. Ableton is for performers and engineers who play live. odds are if you make music in FL someone is playing it live on ableton for an audience.
You can actually do more with ableton than you can with any other DAW. Learn about Max for live you will quickly find Ableton offers more than any other daw aside from pro tools. This is why I recommend an education. I paid 3500$ to learn every knob and button and every function of every plugin in the suite and how to apply it live, mix and master, I will not be leaving Ableton for a long time cause i can make whatever i want.

Well thanks for all this, unfortunately I've got to start again, software is out of date and my midi controller is temperamental. When I'm up and running again o think these tutorials will be a great help.
hi thank you for everything you do. I really need your opinion, do maschine and ableton have the same operating mode? is combining maschine mk3 and push 2 as a workflow for musical creation (not for live music but for purely home studio use) possible? do the 2 complement each other in a workflow or is it a bad idea? Please help me

Hi Rachel. What version of Live is needed? And do you cover some of the new stuff in ver 11? Do we need a Push? Sorry - this is probably all written somewhere already...
Hey Mike, no good question! it is in the FAQ's you can use any version of Ableton for this and you don't need a Push - I walk you through choosing a Midi controller though as you will need one to get the most of the course - As for Live 11 thats covered in my production course but the curriculum in this course is using long standing functionality of Ableton Live and methods I have tried and tested on stage so Live 11 is not yet required - I am using Live 11 now and will be updating the course with new methods that apply as I have done in the production course :) hope that helps xxxx

@@RachelKCollierRKC Hi dear Rachel, well, I have never studied music, I only play with sounds and instruments for fun, I have a keyboard, push 2, a bass and guitars, I all learned to play by ear, and doing research on my own, and well the Last year I was encouraged to upload to UA-cam, I have uploaded 2 videos, edited by me too, on my channel, there you can see them. I use Ableton, listen to it and let me know what you think and if you think I can do your course, I think I can learn something different.
@@RachelKCollierRKC so would you say it's better to take the production course first? I'm no complete beginner, I would say i have patchwork knowledge of production and no streamlined production process. But I find that my biggest hindrance is things tend to take longer than I'd like, from finding the right samples, adding in the chords and tweaking the sounds, to everything else.
