@OrtegaSauce they really... don't. Publicly shaming a child for bad behavior vs actually educating them and showing them reasonable consequences, they will only get self esteem issues. Imagine the kid reading comments of a ton of random adults saying things like "backhand him" or "he is a demon kid" when he was making a bad decision. Public humiliation is not parenting. Its like shaving a kids head becausethey get bad grades. Parents like that are scums and are awful. (Don't get me wrong uploading funny moments like a toddler making demon noises is cute, or a kid falling off a chair is funny, etc. I am specifically talking about bad behavior.)

Real question, is a child's reaction to Christmas gifts correlated to how they are raised?
I would personally say it has some correlation. I used to always receive clothes as a kid and ofcourse all I thought about were toys or electronics. I was taught to be grateful for what I get because my parents when they were younger was not as fortunate as I was.

Yeah, it also depends on the type of trick and the age of the child, because if it was an older kid I think they'd take a prank better than a younger kid. But yeah, some of those were pretty mean spirited.

I've had many Xmas ruined over horrible gifts. Oldest sister didn't like me, she went Xmas shopping with my father. She always picked out the ugliest dress, or something that would humiliate me. To this day, I do not like Xmas. It seems to make people more unhappy than happy. For the most part, it's just "stuff" that you either hate or can do without. BTW, my sister is dead, karma.

I’m astonished at how cruel some of these parents are. Presenting your child with a gift that they have clearly been wishing and dreaming of. Then they find out it’s a box of school books or socks and everyone including ( no, especially) their parents ( the people they should trust the most) laugh in their faces.
That is the height of selfishness and cruelty.
When I was 13, I really REALLY wanted a brand new laptop. When Christmas was around and it was my turn to open the presents, there was a box with a laptop on it.
To say I was hype was an understatement. Until I realized that it was a few pairs of socks that is. Got pretty pissed until they revealed that it was a prank and gave me a real laptop.😂😂😂
It's completely all right to do stuff like that as long as it isn't too much. It can be fun :)

Parents tricking their kids into believing they received an awesome gift only to have that excitement crushed when they realize it’s not what’s in the package is absolutely disgusting and very upsetting to watch. My dad was born in 1951 was raised on his family’s potato farm in Idaho. The highlight of his Christmas was getting his favorite vegetable in his stocking, a cucumber. Pure humble gratitude. It all comes down to family wealth and value systems, both can be either carried or changed through the generations, it all depends on choices 🙏

My family would use whatever boxes we had lying around the house (cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc.) so you never truly knew what you would get until you opened the box! I remember actually getting a box of cereal WITH CEREAL inside. It was the happiest xmas of my memory.
To be fair, cereal boxes are one thing, boxes after expensive items are annoying and totally misleading. People who reuse boxes know better than to use boxes setting up expectations too high.

I wonder why some parents think it's funny to ruin their kids Christmas. If you don't want to give them expensive toys, fine. But tricking them into believing they have something they really want, then snatching it away, is a letdown they will remember for life. Hahaha! All for a video. Hilarious.

I think it's fine as long as the actual gift is given immediately following the prank. Otherwise, it's just needlessly cruel to get their hopes up like that.
