Thanks for posting this.. I was one of the loggers that cleared this 12 mile stretch of road. It was an epic 6 weeks. Lived, slept and breathed this pass for many days . One of the best experiences of my life. Glad you liked it. It was awesome to see the finished product.
Thank you soooo much for your hard work and amazing efforts to create such a great travel experience! The road is getting record amounts of use this summer - a testament to the quality of your work!
I used to spend a lot of time up there but haven't been back for a dozen years. Nice to see they finally paved that road, it was full of boulders when I was last there.
Nice improvements on the west side since I travelled from BV to Taylor Reservoir one day for some fly fishing below the dam back in 2008. Thanks for the update, the scenery and the memories.
In my opinion, that area of Colorado is the most beautiful place in the world. I'm heading up there this coming weekend for a week's vacation. Staying in Buena Vista for a couple of days, and will be taking the drive to Taylor Park Reservoir. The video is really nice, I haven't been on the road since it opened this year. I was there two years ago and the road was closed, under construction, so we went to Cottonwood lake instead and road the trail all the way up to the end, also beautiful scenery.
I hope you enjoy your visit to my favorite place in the world! I've lived in Buena Vista for 23 years, and even since hitting the road full-time as an RV, I always spend an extended visit at home! You should have a beautiful trip to Taylor, as the trees are turning!
I CROSSED COTTONWOOD PASS IN ABOUT 1972. IT WAS DANGEROUS AND VERY SCARY. I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING OVER THE EDGE JUST OFF THE TOP ON THE DOWNHILL SIDE GOING TO TAYLOR RESERVOIR
Nice. I haven't been over Cottonwood Pass since the new paving (thank you covid). This certainly makes the trip easier but I never thought the west side was that bad. Actually, this probably makes Taylor Park closer to Buena Vista time wise than it is to Gunnison because of the winding nature of the highway below Taylor Park Dam.
Agree about west side. The only time I took it was in 2004; no dust, almost no splash, very firm. You are right about the winding stretch above Gunnison. Very scenic, and very slow! Thanks.
The beginning of the ruination of that part of the wilderness. Use to be secluded and beautiful. Taylor reservoir will be ruined. Colorado isnt the same state anymore. Too many idiots from other places now.

This is one of my favorite drives I’m so glad it is finally paved. Lucky sully.
Wonderful film over Cottonwood. Thank you for sharing.
It's been over 50 years since I was last over Cottonwood Pass. Thanks for the ride!
Thank you! Now I know which I’ll be taking this week to leave Crested Butte without doing Monarch Pass again. 😬 lol
Paving this road detracts from its original beauty.
I really liked this video, great video and content without blah blah. Thanks for posting!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

been a long time since i lived in Bueney.... such a nice little town all growing up..
OMG, we were just in Buenie and did not know the rest of the pass had been paved! What a beautiful and relatively easy drive. TFS
It's a smooth and easy trip to Taylor Reservoir now! Hope you'll return to BV and check it out!
Hi, approx how long does it take driving the pass to reach Taylor Park Reservoir area in the summer months from Buena Vista?
If you don't stop for pictures (and you will want to :) ), it might take 30-40 minutes, tops.

I am from BV too, best place I think!
What time of year was this filmed? Thanks
Daryl, it was filmed on July 3, 2020. Now it's a quick trip from Buena Vista to Taylor Park!
I remember when this was all dirt, with the last half mile having to be hiked. Long time ago. Would have been far more enjoyable at the normal speed.
When did you drive this? Like what month? I know snow varies from summer to summer, but I'm curious whether it was late June or earlier (or later).
Joesph, I filmed this on June 18, 2020. It was after a lackluster winter with not much snow, as I recall. Hope that helps!
@@PhotoTrippingAmerica Thank you! This helps a lot actually!
Is the road open years round?
No, it closes when the snow begins to accumulate. The road crews do not maintain (plow) it during the winter.
The new shortcut...
June 1966 was a different road.
Is this Shelly ?
Yup, Chris, it's me and my trusty sidekick, Sully, the Golden Retriever! How are you doing?
Time lapse?
Yes :)
