    Yeah, we typically spend at least 3 non travel days in an area. We like to have a single down day to enjoy things we've found and chill... then run to the train... run between trains and wait... where is train #2 in Florenza? Behind this wall and you have 90 seconds to run with luggage to make the time lol...
    We stayed 10 days in Sorrento area. Best time I've ever had. No. I lie. I still prefer Venice. I'd retire there if I could.
    We hope to spend upwards of 3 months in Italy after we turn 60 in a few years. It is the home of my heart! When I land in Italy, I am home. I love the USA but Italy... nothing beats it.
    You mention which day of the week you spend in a place. The Venice fish market is an example. It's only open on certain days and I loooove to cook so we go buy some amazing food and wine then go back to our place and cook up a storm. But if you are there on the wrong 1.5 days, you can't experience that. I suggest 3 days minimum in an area. You can always day trip to local areas if you exhaust the very local area you are in.
    I decided early on, that we would simply keep coming back and exploring new areas rather than cram in a lot into 3 weeks.

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  2 роки тому

      Dave, so many great points here. You're right, three days is typically the norm for us. It's not an excuse, but we were REALLY pushing ourselves to share as much of Italy as we could with all of you. The end result was major fatigue and no true days off. Our dream is to explore Europe by RV for an unencumbered amount of time like we do in North America. The travel style forces you to slow down, and we love getting to meet the people and experience more of the culture in areas we explore. Over our 4 years of full-time travel, we are happiest at our slowest, haha. Thanks so much for watching and we're so glad you're along for the journey! 👍 -Howard

    Hi Rivers family.
    Having watched your entries of Italy before and after my latest trip home 3 months ago, I think you did pretty well.
    As a first visit, you saw a good deal of the tourist side of the country.
    Everyone's adventures could be tweaked and improved in hindsight, but we learn these things along the way.
    A particular thanks for your Cinque Terre video. After spending about 3 years in Italy since I moved, I'd never bothered with the over' tourism of that area. But you convinced me to do it. I followed in your footsteps and was left wondering why I hadn't been sooner.
    Are you still travelling?

      If you come to Turin, the Egyptian Museum is worth a visit as it was the first museum of Egyptian antiquities in the world and is second in importance only to the Cairo museum.
      And then there is the rest of the region for food and wine, the lakes, the Alps .....
      It would take three weeks for each of the twenty Italian regions! Greetings from Turin!

    For example, a friend and I rented a car for 6 weeks in the UK, 3 weeks for England, 3 for Scotland, 1960. Only made reservations ahead in London and Edinburgh. We drifted from small hotels, inns, B&Bs to another. Often the manager of one would call ahead to the next, make our reservation there. It was lovely.

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  2 роки тому +1

      That sounds absolutely fantastic, and honestly closer to how we typically travel stateside. Rarely have reservations or the rush to be anywhere at a particular time or day. We admittedly tried to pack a LOT into this 3 week trip to Italy...

    Hello, we are traveling to Italy next month and using the train the whole time. Could you explain a bit more about what happened with the train issue? I didn’t quite got what you guys were trying to explain.

    • @NewstateNomads
      @NewstateNomads  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely, and it's always hard to balance providing info without diving TOO deep for the majority of people watching an episode.
      The first issue was the REGIONAL train we had booked was cancelled. Since it is the cheaper, non reserved seat service, you can't just transfer your reservation to the more expensive (and faster) trains with reserved seating. It leaves you with three options: make a new reservation for whatever train you want, wait and file for compensation from the train company for the cancelled one (since under law they must refund AND compensate for the cancelled train), or get an immediate refund on the value of the ticket. We decided to book a new ticket, and thought we had it figured out but realized that the connecting ticket we bought departed from a different station in Milan from the one we were arriving on. Rather than take a taxi, etc to switch stations, we booked ANOTHER ticket on a different train that left from the SAME station in Milan, then processed the refund in the TrenItalia app. Hope that helps and thanks for watching! 👍 -Howard

    The hotel being in the old Fiat factory was crazy amazing! Thanks for the talk about your planning process and keeping it real. 👍
    That coffee, chocolate, milk drink was beautiful! 💞
    I swear that I almost tried to grab some of the candied oranges off the cannoli through our 65 inch TV. 🤣🤣
    The statues with the tattoo work looked incredible and being movie fans that museum was so interesting. 💖
    Thanks so much for sharing your adventures.

      The hotel was so cool! They definitely did a great job incorporating the features of the factory while renovating. Hahaha I bet that cannoli looked huge on your tv 😆 and yes! The bicerin was to die for, so good! I wanted another! 🤤

    Love so many of your travelogs, but this one really resonated. We are guilty of too much planing, and we were visiting Sicily roughly during the same period. Ohh the cannoli & arancini !! Would enjoy helping test the new site.

      We definitely were feeling it that day, and I'm glad we turned the camera on to talk about it. Live and learn...and then try to plan better for next time haha 😆 yes! You guys were there then too. I bet the cannoli in Sicily was amazing! And great!! We'll get you signed up soon on the new site! 🙌❤️
