I'm a future barber student from California, USA and watching the way these guys (and gal) work is very inspiring. My shop will be heavily influenced by the Waldorf and other classic barber shops. Sadly a dying breed here in the states.
Well I am delighted to see this clip up on youtube. The Waldorf is an amazing place to go. It's just a totally different and better experience than any other barbershop in Dublin. Can you believe that the the gentleman had been a customer for 60 years? I can - it really has to be seen to be believed.
What's not to love about traditional barber shops / barbers like these? I'm lucky being in Japan - it's still the thing to get a hot towel and straight razor shave as a matter of course. And my barber does a perfect 40s and 50s cut for me.
I remember the first time I went to the Waldorf - I asked the barber (Liam, the proprietor) if I could get a my hair washed *after*, as well as before the cut. Normally you would be made to feel like you were being too awkward asking this, but Liam summed up the whole vibe of the place with his reply: Me: Is it possible to get my hair washed after the haircut as well as before? Barber: "Of course, anything is possible at the Waldorf" 10/10 from me as a customer with very exacting standards.
i think this is fate. I watched the movie Barbershop the other night and theres a scene with an old school barber giving someone a shave and it looked amazing. I then started watching clips of shaving on youtube and then i see this.....and it was put up the night i watched the film! Im goin to this place. Anyone know what street its on?
It's real nice to see business people who care about tradition. Not just about making money.
I got a flattop there once. It was really, really well done and a lot of fun.
