    ABOUT THE PIANIST: Named one of CBC Music's top 30 musicians under 30, Toronto-based pianist Vanessa Yu recently performed at Carnegie Hall as the Grand Prize winner of the Pacific Rim International Music Festival. She has given solo recitals for series including the International Holland Music Sessions in the Netherlands and the Nine Sparrows Arts Foundation in Canada. Upcoming engagements include performances at the Arts and Letters Club of Toronto, Vienna Konzerthaus, and Chautauqua Institution, among others.
    Vanessa has also had recordings nationally broadcast on CBC and been featured on OMNI Television and 680 News. Vanessa has performed Chopin, Beethoven, and Rimsky-Korsakov concerti with numerous orchestras across North America (York Symphony, North York Concert, Burlington Symphony, Etobicoke Philharmonic, Central Texas Philharmonic, Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber, etc. orchestras), and will be playing Rachmaninoff and Liszt concerti with the Mississauga Symphony, Scarborough Philharmonic, and Toronto Concert orchestras in 2023/24.
    Garnering awards in Canada and beyond, Vanessa has been a prizewinner at the Chicago, Città di San Donà di Piave, Eisemann Young Artist (youngest finalist), and Thousand Islands (youngest contestant) international competitions. She is currently a BMusPerf student at the University of Toronto where she studies with Steven Philcox and Enrico Elisi, and is a recipient of the Alice and Armen Matheson full scholarship and UofT Scholar Award.
    Vanessa has played in masterclasses for internationally renowned musicians including Julian Martin, Boris Slutsky, Jerome Lowenthal, John Perry, and Jonathan Biss. Inspired by her mentors, Vanessa enjoys teaching; her students have won awards at competitions including the OMFA Provincials, Unionville Music Competition, and North York Music Festival.
    Passionate about design, Vanessa is also a calligrapher and bullet journalist, and has taught workshops for partners including Google.
