Excellent tutorial. Much appreciated. I bought a replacement 5 inch backing plate today because mine has been so well used and the foam deteriorated a bit in the Florida heat. Totally appreciate the tutelage here
Hi there! After many, many hours of use the carbon brushes may need to be replaced. If the machine begins to underperform it may be an indication that the brushes are wearing down.
@Themachine They are the contacts for the motor. It's kind of "old school" technology but tried and true. Most newer hand tools (especially battery operated) are "brushless" design. They are usually longer lasting and slightly better performance. This of course is just a general observation as some brands and applications could give different results. Hope that helps. Or look up "brushed vs brushless motors"
Question.... I want to use this for cleaning office furniture... is there any absorbent microfiber or cotton bonnets that attach to this? I use a low speed orbital buffer now, but looking at other options. Thanks!
Hey great video Joey! It would be cool if chemical guys made a de-icer product that could be sprayed onto the vehicle and windows in winter conditions.
Is it normal to see the pads not spinning at speed 6 when i’m going around the car but it just shakes and if I apply a little to non pressure then it spins. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Billy! The Red Backing Plate is flexible to contour to the shape of the vehicle whereas the Yellow Backing Plate is more dense for polishing flat surfaces.

Never heard of carbon brushes before. What is it for?

Great suggestion!
Can you use this to apply wax or polish to a fiberglass boat?
Are the 4 inch polishing pads supposed to be for the 3 inch backing plate? I didn't see anything smaller on the website
That is correct!
That silver “half moon” piece seems to be in the way of where the tool needs to go through on mine. How do I get that out of the way
Hi there! The "half moon" is a counterweight, by hand rotate the assembly until it is out of the way.
