They made this game with $15 million. $15 FUCKING MILLION! To put that in perspective, Skyrim was $85 million, Watch Dogs was $68 million, and GTA V was $265 million. Hell, Witcher 2 was made on $10 million and it looked next gen on ultra back in 2011! What black magic does CD Projekt Red use to create these visually stunning games?!
Combat is the same 100% if you are on console then ofc, cus this is played on a insane high end pc, and the final pc build had a downgrade. If you've Supreme to extreme graphics mod, and the right reshade graphics are equally as impressive. Combat can look like this simply by changing the camera placement.

Wow, I never saw a demo of this game prior to its release so watching this after beating the game I find it pretty crazy how much was changed/removed. I kind of prefer the character menu in this demo compared to the one in the completed game. I like the colors and Geralt's cool fighting stance.

Or it was never in it and just designed with the conference in mind. The face model of the herbalist from this demo, I found out later, is indeed in the game. But it is for a minor character in the fyke isle quest. She was the plague maiden fyi.
This was SIX YEARS ago?! I almost can't believe it's been that long. Still remember waiting on this game after I saw the E3 reveal. Little did I know the hype that I built up was by no means sufficient for this masterpiece. I'm still playing it to this day every now and then and I'm really excited for the next gen upgrades
Around 6 years after its release, it still looks next gen and its breaking its all time highest player base records. That's why The Witcher 3 is the game of the decade for me. It was much more than a game tho... it was art.
Kevin Maginnis I could believe that the poly count was 10million in the face before model simplification. For much of the game you aren't looking at Geralt's face, so all those poly's getting culled would be somewhat the performance killer.
They might be using a technique some games use which is to simply have different models for the heads and bring out the nice ones when needed. There's just no reason not to.
Nazareadain 10million poly count is incredibly high even for higher-end graphics hardware. 10million * 3 floats per vertex + 10million * 2 uv coordinates per vertex + 10million * 3 floats per normal vector + 10million vertex to rig mappings creates roughly 90MB of raw geometry data (if not more) just for the face (if that includes hair, that I could understand too, but my impression was that hair is usually done using a particle shader and not using discrete geometry). 10million poly count is nothing for a workstation graphics solution (like an NVIDIA QUADRO card, which is a total powerhouse). But even for the super-high-end consumer stuff, 10million is probably pushing it.
Why are so many people bitching about who has the better console on a trailer for a game that's not even an exclusive? Seriously, the only difference in consoles at this point is which games do you want to play and what controller do you like more.

For people who don't know: 1080p on PS4 and 900p on XBox One. They may bring it up to 1080p on the XBox One too. 30 fps on both consoles. They haven't finished optimizing yet apparently. In comparison, the settings are comparable to high settings on PC. It may. But you'll have stuttering problems since AMD Crossfire is not that great. It's inferior compared to SLI for nVidia cards. But the advantage is: you can Crossfire two different cards whereas for SLI, it should be the same. But you'll not have realistic fur, since it uses PhysX, which is exclusive to nVidia cards. You can hit high without a problem though. But we'll just have to wait for them to release the requirements to determine.
5 years later after playing this game, feels weird that this video was before the release. None of us knew how much of a crazy ride we were in for. I honestly wish I could go back 4 years ago and replay the game for the first time again - the whole experience was one of a kind, a true masterpiece.

Cry Skyrim is one of the most popular games on PC, due to modding etc, right next to CS:GO etc. This game will certainly be a hit but I doubt its gonna be that popular. Its unfortunate since I just adore the Witcher series.
I hope this is good but its not gonna be anything anywhere near as good as skyrim unless its truly random (and its not from what weve seen so far). But Still want it by what i seen but devs already stated console versions 'may not' be able to have its fullest power active for it (unless they are kind enough to reprogram it an extra 2 times for xb1/ps4 to use special 'effects hardware'. Fighting kind of reminds me of Monster Hunter, Graphics like every other pretty game, open-world like TES, and the conversation mechanics of a lot of other RPG's. I have never played a Witcher game before, but now I plan on getting this one. (Those were all compliments to the game)
All three games are based on the books and share the same main storyline, which is continuation of the Witcher saga storyline (Blood of the Elves, Times of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, The Lady of the Lake) + the storyline of the Witcher 3 will directly refer to the events from fourth and fifth novel. There are also three short story collections, two of which you should also read ("The Last Wish" and "The Sword of Destiny"), since there are multiple references to them in games too. . I highly recommend You to read short stories first ( "The Last Wish", then "The Sword of the Destiny"), then read the Saga, then play first two games. Seems too much to fully enjoy the game, but it is worth to spend time to read it, as these novels are simply amazing, creating the whole, unique dark and mature universe concerning difficult choices and real dillemas. I bet You will not consider time spent on this wasted, as these books literally pulls You to reading more and more. And believe me, playing these games while having already read the books is truly rewarding and gives chance to fully immerse in this world.

You should play the second game as we'll. it's relatively short (20 hours max), and will really help you get into the world of witcher. It's not open world like this one, but rather split into 3 different open world sectors, but it is still a great game

Wenceslao Futanaki So, the developers offer a SWITCH, a SETTING in the preferences so you can play 1st person if you want or 3rd person if you want. I'd set it for 1st person unless I absolutely needed overhead access to cast a spell on the right creature, let's say. But when traveling, and most things, I'd love a first person perspective. You don't see yourself in real life when walking and stuff. I love the arms only view. Monsters get right up in my face and claw and bite the bejesus out of me. Ah... good ole Doom days.
You know what I like about this trailer? It shows Geralt doing what Witchers are supposed to do: Hunt monsters. I hope that they very these up a bit with, like, using traps and bait and things like that to give players different options. Anyways, it was one thing I really wished there was more of in the first two games. On the one hand, I understand what they were going for: Geralt is getting caught up in conflicts he doesn't really want to be a part of, and wants to get on with the business of monster hunting. On the other hand, it would have been nice to be out in the wild just doing witcher stuff.
Well in the books Geralt used silver sword only for supernatural beings/monsters like vampires, ghosts, wraiths, werewolves, and the like. He used steel sword for killing "regular" monsters or monstrous animals. Griffins, like arachasae, endregas, fiends, giant centipedes are animals in essence and should be susceptible to steel weapons, not only silver as is the case right now in the game. It's devs decision to use steel sword only for humans, elves, dwarfs, wolves and bears, while silver sword should be used for everything else, to make it easier for the player.
People need to stop pirating the Witcher series. If you guys pirate the other games then that's OK but Witcher 3 is a game that must not be pirated. CD projekt has announced that Witcher 3 will be DRM free and all of the DLCs will be absolutely free on the PC. No words on the consoles DLC being free but still Witcher 3 on the PC will have all these features like what they did to Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Look up Witcher 1 and Witcher 2, there are absolutely no paid DLC for both games and they released the DLC for free in an update. Witcher 1 received a 5GB update while Witcher 2 received a 8GB update

Sure, we could drop down settings to get the game running at an acceptable frame rate if we wanted to, but I miss the days when games were allowed to be benchmarks for hardware - the day when people WANTED to crunch down on super-high end PCs just to see the future of video game tech early. I miss those days of Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 back in 2004, back when we payed a thousand or more just to see them in all their splendor. Now everyones on that GRAPHICS DON'T MATTER/60 FPS ALL THE TIME bandwagon. I fucking hate it. I want games to beat the shit out of my PC. I want the incentive to upgrade, not deal with optimization culture that developers are following.
It's amazing how much mods have been able to recreate this exact look and feeling. From the hud and combat to lighting, I feel like I'm playing almost the exact build with about 3 mods.
@@awsomeboy360 There are so many mods that you can tailor to your preferences, but my main 3 are Superturbo lighting mod, E3 UI and Hud, and E3Dodgesystem. If you want to make your game awesome, make sure to look up how to remove the mod limit.
I'd never thought I'd say this for any game, but the game on release was so much better than the gameplay demo here! It is a testament of what a bunch of dedicated people with a vision are capable of. I still play the Witcher 3 once a year, and let me tell you, this game hasn't aged a day since release.

This is the only game I'm truly excited for. The only thing that worries me is how easy it looks but as has been said, it was probably on easy mode for demonstration purposes. I've never played the Witcher series but wow, this game could be anything.
It's DRM free so it will be pretty easy to pirate it, But i pre ordered it yesterday, the witcher is one of the few games i deem good enough to be played. And the witcher has always overdelivered to high expectations.

Respect to cd projektred deeply. They didn't overhype the game it came straight out like cockroach, we weren't even aware of it's present xD. It turned out to be the best game ever made, with little advertising. seriously small talk and real scores love these guys. also they had changed alot of things for the game im quiet suprised.

When I first saw the initial trailer for this gem, I was very new to gaming. I didn't know the series, I didn't know what they were advertising or why I loved it so much. But when it became available, I putchased it and it remained the only game I ever pre-ordered, with all the DLC and it's the only purchase I ever made that I didn't have any second thoughts about. I won't say that it's the best game ever made because people enjoy diffrent games but to me personally, as a fan of immersion, of dark fantasy, medival themes and great gameplay mixed with an equally great story - out of all the hundreds of games I have played over the years to this day it has remained my favorite because it never failed to impress me. I mean it even created an entirely diffrent game with Gwent I continue to enjoy. Geralt, you will be missed dearly - I think I speak for all of us when I say that this game was brilliant.
I really wish people would stop downing The Witcher over Dragon age and visce versa, they both have their own strengths and weakness, but for the most part they both look great and i plan on owning both of them. Plus despite both being fantasy based games, they're completely different styles, saying one is better than the other is completely subjective meaning it means nothing beyond the person giving that opinion. Just enjoy the damn game and move on

Elgar most likely a purposeful design choice as having a more "realistic" traversal would be frustrating. It makes exploration more fluid and less cumbersome. It also prevents character models from getting stuck. Skyrim adopted this method. Dragon Age does it. Every open world game where exploration is key adopts this same basic concept. They may tweak pieces of it to polish it up, but it was most likely a purposeful decision.

i'm pretty sure it was staged. notice the cutscene where the griffin knocks his steel sword out of his hands. it was made that way so they could show the unsheating of the silver sword afterwards and the runes on it for a dramatic effect. and contrary to what Captain Morgan said i'm pretty sure the griffin IS a monster. pretty much every supernatural creature in this franchise is considered a "monster". why would they send a witcher to deal with it in the first place if that wasn't the case?
There are mythic monsters, like ghosts, skeletons, drowned and stuff like that, best choice to kill these are silverswords. People call all the ugly creatures monsters, but in fact they are not magical, so you can kill them with steel. At least, thats how it says in the books and in the first Witcher game.
why does the interface for inventory look better. where is the animation when you stop jogging.where are the cutscenes like at the end of the griffin fight.
David Strickland If you look closely the inventory is the same, just things have been laid out better post release and the colour changed. Remember, the only reason they'd change it would be to improve. And they're both in game... The chap in the video is gently releasing the toggle in order to get the smooth stop.
They have made a new one for the new DLC (it won't change the actual in-game HUD, but it changes a lot of UI elements in the menus, like inventory, map, mutations, skills, etc).
I highly doubt that. That looks like the witcher 2 interface and everyone complained about the witcher 2 interface. I like the interface myself, but that's primarily cuz it's different as i never saw the pre-release gameplay videos of tw3. It's new to me so it seems attractive but it probably isn't better. It's the same for most people i guarantee you.

Wow, I never saw a demo of this game prior to its release so watching this after beating the game I find it pretty crazy how much was changed/removed. I kind of prefer the character menu in this demo compared to the one in the completed game. I like the colors and Geralt's cool fighting stance.

This was SIX YEARS ago?! I almost can't believe it's been that long. Still remember waiting on this game after I saw the E3 reveal. Little did I know the hype that I built up was by no means sufficient for this masterpiece. I'm still playing it to this day every now and then and I'm really excited for the next gen upgrades
Around 6 years after its release, it still looks next gen and its breaking its all time highest player base records. That's why The Witcher 3 is the game of the decade for me. It was much more than a game tho... it was art.

I heard they increased the polygon count for geralt's face by to about 10 million, though I might be mis-quoting.
Kevin Maginnis I could believe that the poly count was 10million in the face before model simplification. For much of the game you aren't looking at Geralt's face, so all those poly's getting culled would be somewhat the performance killer.
They might be using a technique some games use which is to simply have different models for the heads and bring out the nice ones when needed. There's just no reason not to.
Nazareadain 10million poly count is incredibly high even for higher-end graphics hardware. 10million * 3 floats per vertex + 10million * 2 uv coordinates per vertex + 10million * 3 floats per normal vector + 10million vertex to rig mappings creates roughly 90MB of raw geometry data (if not more) just for the face (if that includes hair, that I could understand too, but my impression was that hair is usually done using a particle shader and not using discrete geometry).
10million poly count is nothing for a workstation graphics solution (like an NVIDIA QUADRO card, which is a total powerhouse). But even for the super-high-end consumer stuff, 10million is probably pushing it.
Their body animations looks great as well; more natural and realistic.

Look for "preparations" mod on nexusmods, real time meditation, and you can brew potions only with a campfire.
Go for primer instead, you need to hunt for the required substances in order to brew every single potion. No more auto refill!

For people who don't know:
1080p on PS4 and 900p on XBox One. They may bring it up to 1080p on the XBox One too. 30 fps on both consoles. They haven't finished optimizing yet apparently. In comparison, the settings are comparable to high settings on PC. Witcher 3 on PC ultra settings adds better tessellation, more physics, more post-processing and more realistic fur.

It may. But you'll have stuttering problems since AMD Crossfire is not that great. It's inferior compared to SLI for nVidia cards. But the advantage is: you can Crossfire two different cards whereas for SLI, it should be the same. But you'll not have realistic fur, since it uses PhysX, which is exclusive to nVidia cards. You can hit high without a problem though. But we'll just have to wait for them to release the requirements to determine.

Fighting kind of reminds me of Monster Hunter, Graphics like every other pretty game, open-world like TES, and the conversation mechanics of a lot of other RPG's. I have never played a Witcher game before, but now I plan on getting this one. (Those were all compliments to the game)
All three games are based on the books and share the same main storyline, which is continuation of the Witcher saga storyline (Blood of the Elves, Times of Contempt, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, The Lady of the Lake) + the storyline of the Witcher 3 will directly refer to the events from fourth and fifth novel.
There are also three short story collections, two of which you should also read ("The Last Wish" and "The Sword of Destiny"), since there are multiple references to them in games too.

I highly recommend You to read short stories first ( "The Last Wish", then "The Sword of the Destiny"), then read the Saga, then play first two games. Seems too much to fully enjoy the game, but it is worth to spend time to read it, as these novels are simply amazing, creating the whole, unique dark and mature universe concerning difficult choices and real dillemas. I bet You will not consider time spent on this wasted, as these books literally pulls You to reading more and more.
And believe me, playing these games while having already read the books is truly rewarding and gives chance to fully immerse in this world.

Wenceslao Futanaki So, the developers offer a SWITCH, a SETTING in the preferences so you can play 1st person if you want or 3rd person if you want. I'd set it for 1st person unless I absolutely needed overhead access to cast a spell on the right creature, let's say. But when traveling, and most things, I'd love a first person perspective. You don't see yourself in real life when walking and stuff. I love the arms only view. Monsters get right up in my face and claw and bite the bejesus out of me. Ah... good ole Doom days.

Watching this now in 2020, omg mate... they had no idea what a masterpiece would be coming on.
You know what I like about this trailer? It shows Geralt doing what Witchers are supposed to do: Hunt monsters. I hope that they very these up a bit with, like, using traps and bait and things like that to give players different options. Anyways, it was one thing I really wished there was more of in the first two games. On the one hand, I understand what they were going for: Geralt is getting caught up in conflicts he doesn't really want to be a part of, and wants to get on with the business of monster hunting. On the other hand, it would have been nice to be out in the wild just doing witcher stuff.
This game looks fucking awesome. The idea of tracking down and fighting huge monsters is so cool.
You should consider picking up a few monster hunter titles to tide you're waiting friend. very similar premise.

Well in the books Geralt used silver sword only for supernatural beings/monsters like vampires, ghosts, wraiths, werewolves, and the like. He used steel sword for killing "regular" monsters or monstrous animals. Griffins, like arachasae, endregas, fiends, giant centipedes are animals in essence and should be susceptible to steel weapons, not only silver as is the case right now in the game.
It's devs decision to use steel sword only for humans, elves, dwarfs, wolves and bears, while silver sword should be used for everything else, to make it easier for the player.

This being a Witcher game i have a good idea for what will happen when he comes back to the house after he finishes off the griffin.
People need to stop pirating the Witcher series. If you guys pirate the other games then that's OK but Witcher 3 is a game that must not be pirated. CD projekt has announced that Witcher 3 will be DRM free and all of the DLCs will be absolutely free on the PC. No words on the consoles DLC being free but still Witcher 3 on the PC will have all these features like what they did to Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Look up Witcher 1 and Witcher 2, there are absolutely no paid DLC for both games and they released the DLC for free in an update. Witcher 1 received a 5GB update while Witcher 2 received a 8GB update

Sure, we could drop down settings to get the game running at an acceptable frame rate if we wanted to, but I miss the days when games were allowed to be benchmarks for hardware - the day when people WANTED to crunch down on super-high end PCs just to see the future of video game tech early. I miss those days of Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 back in 2004, back when we payed a thousand or more just to see them in all their splendor.
Now everyones on that GRAPHICS DON'T MATTER/60 FPS ALL THE TIME bandwagon. I fucking hate it. I want games to beat the shit out of my PC. I want the incentive to upgrade, not deal with optimization culture that developers are following.

It's amazing how much mods have been able to recreate this exact look and feeling. From the hud and combat to lighting, I feel like I'm playing almost the exact build with about 3 mods.
@@awsomeboy360 There are so many mods that you can tailor to your preferences, but my main 3 are Superturbo lighting mod, E3 UI and Hud, and E3Dodgesystem. If you want to make your game awesome, make sure to look up how to remove the mod limit.

I'd never thought I'd say this for any game, but the game on release was so much better than the gameplay demo here! It is a testament of what a bunch of dedicated people with a vision are capable of. I still play the Witcher 3 once a year, and let me tell you, this game hasn't aged a day since release.

For this generation of consoles this will become one of the best selling games ever, and for PC this will become one of the most pirated games ever.
It's DRM free so it will be pretty easy to pirate it, But i pre ordered it yesterday, the witcher is one of the few games i deem good enough to be played. And the witcher has always overdelivered to high expectations.

When I first saw the initial trailer for this gem, I was very new to gaming. I didn't know the series, I didn't know what they were advertising or why I loved it so much. But when it became available, I putchased it and it remained the only game I ever pre-ordered, with all the DLC and it's the only purchase I ever made that I didn't have any second thoughts about. I won't say that it's the best game ever made because people enjoy diffrent games but to me personally, as a fan of immersion, of dark fantasy, medival themes and great gameplay mixed with an equally great story - out of all the hundreds of games I have played over the years to this day it has remained my favorite because it never failed to impress me.
I mean it even created an entirely diffrent game with Gwent I continue to enjoy. Geralt, you will be missed dearly - I think I speak for all of us when I say that this game was brilliant.
I really wish people would stop downing The Witcher over Dragon age and visce versa, they both have their own strengths and weakness, but for the most part they both look great and i plan on owning both of them. Plus despite both being fantasy based games, they're completely different styles, saying one is better than the other is completely subjective meaning it means nothing beyond the person giving that opinion. Just enjoy the damn game and move on
Especially considering dragon age had a couple games like 3-4 and Witcher only has 3 including this and/or the books for lore and story.

***** I've played all DA and Witcher games to date. They're all pretty badass. I do like the concept of the Witcher more, actually. I think the whole mutant hunter outcast thing is awesome. But yeah man you're right, why not own both?? lol no need to compare the two games when they're both more than likely going to be great! Just enjoy the fucking games for what they are.

Best fking GAME I've ever played. One of the best stories, vastly developed in-game characters, one of the best music, bang for the buck. Totally 10/10.

Elgar most likely a purposeful design choice as having a more "realistic" traversal would be frustrating. It makes exploration more fluid and less cumbersome. It also prevents character models from getting stuck. Skyrim adopted this method. Dragon Age does it. Every open world game where exploration is key adopts this same basic concept. They may tweak pieces of it to polish it up, but it was most likely a purposeful decision.

Yeah, I think the griffin is an animal, not a monster.
i'm pretty sure it was staged. notice the cutscene where the griffin knocks his steel sword out of his hands. it was made that way so they could show the unsheating of the silver sword afterwards and the runes on it for a dramatic effect. and contrary to what Captain Morgan said i'm pretty sure the griffin IS a monster. pretty much every supernatural creature in this franchise is considered a "monster". why would they send a witcher to deal with it in the first place if that wasn't the case?

There are mythic monsters, like ghosts, skeletons, drowned and stuff like that, best choice to kill these are silverswords. People call all the ugly creatures monsters, but in fact they are not magical, so you can kill them with steel. At least, thats how it says in the books and in the first Witcher game.
Some creatures are immune to normal swords, so you use silver swords then.You can kill other creatures with steel swords but silver is more effective.
why does the interface for inventory look better. where is the animation when you stop jogging.where are the cutscenes like at the end of the griffin fight.
David Strickland If you look closely the inventory is the same, just things have been laid out better post release and the colour changed. Remember, the only reason they'd change it would be to improve. And they're both in game... The chap in the video is gently releasing the toggle in order to get the smooth stop.

I dont care about the graphics downgrade, but the old user interface looks more awesome than the one in the finished game.
i prefer the one already in Witcher 3 to the old one its more simplistic
They have made a new one for the new DLC (it won't change the actual in-game HUD, but it changes a lot of UI elements in the menus, like inventory, map, mutations, skills, etc).

I highly doubt that. That looks like the witcher 2 interface and everyone complained about the witcher 2 interface. I like the interface myself, but that's primarily cuz it's different as i never saw the pre-release gameplay videos of tw3. It's new to me so it seems attractive but it probably isn't better. It's the same for most people i guarantee you.
