Believe it or not I've had more interviews using a 1 page CV with a professional summary. It's short, sweet and definitely concise. I know during interviews that some employers have wondered "What's this guy's deal?" or "Do they know what they're doing here?". The professional summary, for me, is the punch. It's the answer, shows my intentions without giving it all away. Love it!
You are the real deal🤝. My husband got a new job after watching your video. He rewrote his resume. He been fighting with his resume for the last 7 months. He rewrote his resume last week, Monday was his interview and today he got the job offer... You have been the only help i seen that takes thier time explaining how things work. Thank you so much. From me and my husband ❤
I love this ! Congrats to your hubby : ) I am in that same process right now after 34 yrs management & my hotel closed. I want to try a new position that I'm qualified for but hitting a wall with how to summarize a change in positon. uggghh so frustrating
Thank you for this advice and the useful tips and examples! I had applied to jobs with my resume before, but hardly got any responses back. I watched this video and applied it to my resume - updating it with each new application, as suggested. I did all of this yesterday. Today, I received two calls asking to set up an interview with me this week! I am so overly excited and grateful for this advice. And it was fun to change it up with each new application, to see what I could add that fit the job description. I’ll try to come back here after the interviews/when I find out more.
Update 1: I had my first interview with the first company today. It overall went really well, seems to match what I’m looking for in my next job, and even the interviewer said he would highly recommend me to the controller who’s going the hiring. (It’s for an accountant position, which I’ve been dreaming of getting into for years.)
@@kvcharles4425 Sadly the company ghosted me. I did a weekly follow up for the first 3 weeks, and repeatedly got told that “something else came up, and they haven’t had a chance to call for the second interview”. It’s been a month since the last time I called, and I never heard anything else. But I’m still looking!
Erin this was so thoughtful of you. I love what you said, and about bridging the game. It have been tough for me for years to create my own resume because I felt all of my fiends can create resumes for me when at times they don't know everything that I have done leaving me unsatisfied with the results, yet appreciative. I wanted to really tell employers what I can offer from my passionate expressive self. Nevertheless, I am still working on my resume and will let you know the outcome from your videos. No one has had ever too the time to show me, nor have I ever asked. They just do it for me.
1:02 solid point about "too jargony" - too often the perception of sounding professional includes too much jargon - a problem for resumes and interview communication.
There is so much content in the web with suggestions to exclude the summary from the CV. But your video changed my mind about it. Now I definitely will update my summary using your tipps. Thank you, Erin!
"Dear company, let's cut a bull***. I really want to pay my bills and rent on time, save for retirement, pay for my children's education and be able to afford food and clothes. I have no desire to make work the meaning of my existence and your happiness. Money I need. That's why I want to work for you. Not for fame or glory, but for money. Because of the salary. Thank you."😁
dear future husband / wife - let's cut the bulshit I don't want to die alone and be a laughing stock, also not particularly fond of cooking or cleaning. Homemaking and looking good in front of friends and cutting my family's BS are all I care about, I don't intend to make you the meaning of my life or a lovestory. Thank you
Updating your resume for a career transition can be a daunting task, but it's worth the effort! Remember to highlight transferable skills and showcase your passion for learning and adaptability. Best of luck on your new career journey!
That's very true about career transition/change. It's something I have been struggling with. I like your point about showing your passion for learning and adaptability.

Hi Erin! I want to say thank you for this video. I really appreciate corporate advice given more cordially than usual. You make it sound like an older friend giving advice over coffee ❤
Thanks for the great advice in the video. Never commented before on UA-cam, but felt compelled to when you mentioned how job seeking can be difficult even for those with the experience and skills for the job, but just don't sell themselves well in the resume.
I just found you on TikTok and I’m loving your content! ❤ My main struggle right now is putting together my “About Me”. I am currently in Law Enforcement wanting to get a medical/dental receptionist job. I have no medical or dental experience whatsoever. I will be going back to school this fall for a career in the medical field. So having no degree or direct experience is throwing me off on how to write my “About Me”. If you could give me advice on this that would be amazing and greatly appreciated ❤️ If not, is there a way I can pay to have you review my resume?😅
Hi Erin - I am new here and fell in love with your content. I am seeking to transfer to HR currently and this information was indeed helpful. I am currently updating my resume with the tips that you drop in this video. I will be back. Just like what Arnold said in that movie. lol side joke.
Thank you for making this informative video! Would love to know if you have any tips on how to write a professional summary for someone who has had solid experiences in various job/career industries.
This video offers great tips on crafting a strong professional summary. I especially liked the advice on using keywords and quantifying achievements. If you're looking to streamline your job search, tools like Jobsolv can be really helpful for tailoring your resume and LinkedIn profile to specific roles, making it easier to stand out to recruiters.
Um I don't get the picture😂 I've never had a job except things like babysitting, dog sitting, or student volunteer work. What do I put for that second part of the equation😂😂
Tbh this is harder than I thought. Working in a cooperate job. Why can't we just be honest and just be straightforward. Like I can do this and this and this. And just submit the resume.
Hi Erin, I'm 50 and work in an allied health profession closely aligned with fitness. I strongly suspect that by claiming my 20+ years of experience I am dooming my resume to the "NO" pile. I'm aware that ageism is illegal ( in most professions) yet I believe that I have lost opportunities because of it. Any ideas for navigating this?
whatever the job youre applying to asks for is what you should write. if you have 20 years exp but the job requirement is 4+ years then you say you have 4+ years or 5+ years.. dont age yourself if you can help it. take off any graduation dates and dont go back too far on job experience. difficult to do if youve worked at one company for 20 years but maybe you earned a promotion somewhere midway.. just list the dates of the time you held the promotion instead of all 20.
Hi, my name is Mario and I am applying from Germany. Unfortunately i was only in school therefore I do not have a “background” as you mentioned. Could you tell me how a proper sentence would work?
I appreciate the help anyone can clown but I'll guarantee a good amount of peeps dont know what to even do when some one drops "I'll need a resume" when they roll up to a job lol
What is the best way to professionally say that you really love learning and you can teach yourself and become an expert on any relevant skill very quickly?
highly adaptable x dedicated to professional and personal development. Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new concepts … or demonstrated ability to acquire and apply new skillsets… (just "spit-balling" here)
im a little confused. this would be my first job if I ever get one and I'm not sure what to put past step 2. i don't have experience in anything other than watching after my sister or my grandma's dogs, personal organization etc...
Thank you for what you do. I just found you and have watch several of your videos. You just saved for $800 dollars. I can do this myself thanks to you.
How many lines should it be? What text size should I use on Google Dox? Because size 11 with minimal format feels too big and doesn't give me space for my Pro Summary or my Educational Background. Also, why do u charge money for ur Resume Guide even tho u claim both in ur vids and description that you do NOT sell Career Coaching or Resume Writing Services? Also, this is the internet ALL INFORMATION should be FREE!! Just cuz others do it doesn't mean u have to as well.
