There is a difference furlough is your employer having you take a temporary unpaid leave of absence so that the company can handle its financial situation and you still receive health benefits laid off is permanently you can still get unemployment in both situations regardless
Great point, Adam. Legally speaking, there really is no status of "furloughed" however many employers have opted to keep employees on payroll in order to receive benefits. In some states, employees on this "furlough" can receive benefits. In some they cannot. In the days of COVID, this is becoming a more common practice and one that we encourage if the employer can afford it because it allows employees to retain some health insurance benefits which, during a pandemic, is so important. Thanks for your comment!
Hi I been furloughed since March and I apply for unemployment benefits and yesterday June 7 they put a note that my hours are over and I have to apply till March 13 2021 and the company where I work they already open on June 1 but the area where I work still close so I can do what about the ley cares can someone help me please thank you
I will start again or find some other inspiration, because that seems to be how life works. I hope, I get lost, I find my way, then the path disappears again, and I just have to keep looking. Success and happiness come in small pieces, surrounded by struggle and plenty of failure. Accepting that and moving forward may get me to a good place again… I hope…❤️
Hi Thanks for your nice information..i have a question to you..please answer my question....I have been furloughed from march till now but my employers opening his shop in june but asked me to look for new job as he is expecting no busy due to his Airline business..so can he extend my furlough till i get new job? please answer me anyone..
I am receiving my unemployment but my company send me today furlough paperwork I don't know what is most convenient for me because I have layoff ?? I live in California.
I was furloughed by a retailer. I don’t want to go back even if they offer my job back as I am hoping I am close to getting hired by the state full time. Can I refuse my old part time retail position when they offer it back and still keep looking for full time & be eligible to receive state benefits? Hope that makes sense? I did not sign a contract and it does say laid off on my paperwork
Great question. Being furloughed is not a legal status so it really depends on how the employer defines it. Usually it means you can continue your benefits. It is up to your stat UI board to determine whether you can decline to accept your position back and continue to receive benefits. In many states, if you do not go back to your former position, you cannot collect UI benefits because it is the same as quitting. In others, they are more lenient in offering benefits. I would ask your UI counselor if you have one. Good luck!

What happens when you get furlough and then I won't offer you any of this but yet you have social security income
If not want to sign furlough I can do it ?
how long furloughs last in California?
