The Latest Labor Trends Unveiled: HR Minute With The Workplace Advisors
Claudia St. John of The Workplace Advisors discusses labor market data and what it could mean for employers. These numbers are fluid and The Workplace Advisors stays on top of these findings for our clients. Connect with us for help with the most up-to-date figures and impacts to your business.
As of August 2nd, the U.S. Department of Labor’s unemployment figures, reveal that the unemployment rate rose to 4.3% in July, up from 4.1% in June. This increase reflects a continuing cooling trend in the labor market, with a notable rise in the number of unemployed individuals by 352,000, reaching a total of 7.2 million.
These figures suggest a moderating labor market, which may influence the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decisions, including potential interest rate cuts in the near future.
Moderating Wage Pressure: Although wage growth has slowed to a 0.2% month-over-month increase, it remains positive at 3.6% year-over-year. Employers should still anticipate some upward pressure on wages, especially for in-demand skills and roles.
Budget Adjustments: Companies may need to adjust their compensation budgets to remain competitive and retain top talent. This might involve offering creative compensation packages that include benefits, bonuses, and non-monetary perks.
Rising Expectations: Employees are likely to expect wage increases and better benefits as they see the labor market dynamics shifting. Employers should proactively communicate their compensation strategies and any adjustments to meet these expectations.
Overall, while the labor market shows signs of moderation, employers need to balance their hiring, compensation, and retention strategies.

I see the possibility of termination coming and hoping it doesn’t involve going to court or arbitration. I am guilty and i want them to make it as painless as possible without fees. I have never suffered termination before but i acted like a complete ass and want so much to leave with grace, to stay away from such toxic social behaviors at this facility. And while they have the option to seek HR my presence at this facility creates in others a passive aggressive way to horass me. And my termination will be a win win for both myself and my employer.

As someone that needs to use their cell phone to communicate with clients on a regular basis because the company they work for is to cheap to get them a company phone, yeah no. If I have accomplished my tasks for the day and I have nothing else that needs to be done, I will be using my phone. Older generations like to act like they’re the most productive people in the world when they need to take a smoke/coffee break every 30 minutes, spend hours in the break room or at other coworkers cubicles wasting time, or can’t get their tasks done quickly enough because they can’t use outlook or google calendar. If my boss has a problem with that I’ll simply leave and watch his company go under because his older employees don’t even know how to edit a hyperlink.

When I got fired i decided not to remember the date of my termination so that when the date came around again it wouldn't be such a horrible memory. Walking out the door during normal working hours is really a bad experience. A waking nightmare. I lived several miles from work and I couldn't evn listen to my raidio because of my horrible feelings. Yes I made the mistakes and maybe it needed to happen but that didn't make me feel any beter.

The current salary level of $35,568 a year works out to $17.10 per hour for a 40 hour week. This is slightly above the planned minimum wage in some states. At 50 hours a week, the same salary level of $35,568 a year falls to $13.68 an hour. It is regrettable that the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 did not have an inflation clause built in, and corporate America takes full advantage of that.

Bullshit. As a construction foreman the loss of valuable billable time is absolutely unacceptable. I had a welder trying to answer calls from propective apartments while trying to work. That is both stupid ridiculous and even dangerous. In a shipyard? On a construction site? Bullshit! If I see you pull your phone out during working time it better be because your mom is dying. Or something of that nature or I will send u straight down the road. Is it really too much to ask a worker to pay attention to their duties during their shifts? They get a chance to check their phones every 2 hours! There is no readin to be pulking them out during regular production time. Such a stulid idea. That caters to absurd demands by workers and Icam always on the workers side ........except on this issue.

With the tech we can target how different businesses in the same areas( retail, construction, security) create transparent ceiling monopolies. making it so these absurd laws have to be passed. Everyone pretending they have to play the game. Instead of saying enough. his inflated economy is crazy. ( a $million a house as a standardized base line for house pricing. Used cars at $10k plus minimum start. ) They're ( the businesses) are using g to control everyone. Why not use it back to make things stable again.

In my now 7+ years of looking at corporate DEI and diversity programs, I can assure you, without hesitation, that many major companies and organizations in fact *do* operate explicitly on quota systems and a "numbers" philosophy in order to populate their workforces with the desired demographics. "Who" a person is is far less important than "what" a person is when it comes to DEI & ESG initiatives.

At-Will Employment is unethical in every way, and, what's worse is that it is being applied in the teaching profession. The schools are funded by the State and not the Principal and/or Administrators. Let me tell you what: It has gotten so bad that some of them are even referring to themselves as being Gods. I've heard: "Don't you dare even look at me the wrong way, or you will be fired and blackballed!" This is going on in America.
