Touching fact: Raul Julia took this role despite being in agony during most of the shooting due to his advanced cancer, but decided to still take the role because his children loved Street Fighter. This was his farewell gift to them.
That's both wholesome and heartbreaking. 😢
And he did his damnedest to make it as entertaining as possible. Without him chewing on the scenery this movie would not be nearly as watchable.
*Raúl
He was a hell of a guy and a great actor. So sad when he died.
@@Jennilynne it is really heartbreaking because he was in a ton of pain...but by all accounts he was an incredible professional on set and insisted on giving 100% despite the fact that this movie was "underwhelming" and an absolute joke to put it politely lol
but it's a reminder of just how much he cared about his craft and that's a testament to his character and his ability
Arin's glowing recommendation of "It's so watchable!" should be a quote on the movie's cover.
it 100% is one of those movies you have to watch drunk or high (or both) at least once lmfao
Lmao, I had to check for this comment before saying something similar 😂
@@skippythealien9627 I think it's a good lazy Sunday movie, but I'm curious what people born after a certain time think about it.
After a bit of Googling, can confirm that the man who played Zangief in Street Fighter: The Movie (Andrew Byrniarski) is both still alive and actually a giant ripped af man still to this day. He also played Leatherface for the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and its sequel too.
That’s great to hear his still getting work and as a big horror name too.
And he's only 54 now!
Never forget he played the son of Christopher Walken in Batman Returns. Small-ish role, but he got his Walken impression down for it!
@@apollolux Oh wow, I didn't know that connection.
he also played Lobo in the Paramilitary Christmas Special
Why wasn’t this released on a Tuesday? Then Arin could say “The day we released this episode was the most important day of your lives, but for us, it was Tuesday.”
Missed opportunities Grumps
It was recorded on Tuesday.
well i guess we better fucking riot
@@buggibii I like the way you think
@@flashmozzg good enough I guess
Hah, the fact that I am reading this on a Tuesday is intriguing. Lol
I thought Dan was the cpu and I was like holy shit he’s kicking Arin’s ass
lol I was like "how is he talking so casually and why isn't Arin saying anything about it"
As someone who has Street Fighter in my blood, hearing Arin talk about all the lore and different games and knowing all the moves and inputs makes me so incredibly happy. Plus Dan's curiosity and willingness to listen to Arin talk about it reminds me of me and my dad when I was little.
Agh. This is a special episode for me. Thanks guys.
I really hope they do some SF6 stuff once it comes out. Getting to create their own character for the single player mode feels like something Arin would be into.
@@gamerbear84 oh that would be fun. I already know watching them create characters would be fun.
see you in sf6 buddy. who you looking to play so far?
The MoCap of this game actually makes it look like Mortal Kombat, but the models are way more expressive to show the actors faces. It's pretty incredible.
Yeah, gotta admit, they went harder on this game than they were probably paid for.
Yeah it's kinda like it had a bigger budget and was after mortal Kombat broke ground with significantly less resources
@@resileaf9501 capcom higher ups were like "digitized people sell games, look at mortal kombat" and then gave a team of basically street fighter fans not much time and an okay budget to make this and the team were hoping it was gonna be their big break so their poured their soul into it. it just happened to be tied to a bad movie
@@caseyogden7105 Always sad when this happens. I hope they all found success later despite this.
I would say the game visually doesn't look that bad considering other Mortal Kombat rip offs. This is one of those fun fighting games just to mess around.
Raul Julia was very much alive. And he was very excited to be in a videogame. He was all-in on it. Van Dam on the other hand was less than enthused. But yes, Raul Julia was involved in a very enthusiastic way, and the developers working with him didn't have the heart to tell him they knew they were making a trash game (they weren't given ANY of the Street Fighter assets whatsoever, had to try and recreate the game's feel from scratch, and were given very, very little time to make the game).
Raúl Juliá will forever be an icon, his cadence in how he spoke makes so many of his lines so quotable
he really has some of the most memorable lines in this trainwreck of a film lol. the "Tuesday" quote and the "I Guess you didn't see that" are still some of the most hilarious things ever lol
“OF COURSE!!!”
3:40 - In case anyone's curious, yatai (屋台) is a type of mobile food cart first popularized in the Meiji period. You can find them mainly in Fukuoka now, but not so much elsewhere.
I looked it up as yattai (やったい), which, according to Google, means "want to do." Either way, I'm pretty sure Arin's right that Chun-Li used to say, "yatta."
That seems like an appropriate thing to yell after kicking someone's ass.
@@notsure1969 Absolutely. Next time I win a fight, as soon as his head hits the pavement... "FUCK YEAH FOOD CART!"
Chun Li Chinese tho?
Just super impressed by traditional Japanese street food?
@@maintaint3003 i assumed it was something chinese but google translate isnt bringing up much
So, Chun-li, what's in your lunch today?
"MINI POUND CAKE!"
And Blanka baked it.
"Quick! Change the channel!" is still a genuinely funny line.
Some of the dialogue in the movie was genuinely self aware at how trashy it was. I wouldn't have minded if they went all in on it
I still quote that to this day.
"That's great news, General! Congratulations!" "ON THE CONTRARY, I MOURN" "oh ok"
@@JPBrooksLive That was .... beautiful!
"That's the most dangerous man wearing shiny purple I've ever seen"
I can't belive Dan has never seen Prince
Prince wore purple in the 80s.. a lot.
Prince wasn't dangerous, Mike Bison would fuck his shit up
I do not want to break the 69 likes (nice) so I will leave a like in comment form instead.
*like*
Mad respect for Arin's SF knowledge.
Kkk at least he remember better this time
Pretty sure Dhalsim actually was/is a doctor
@@Virjunior01 He's not, he's a village mystic with supernatural yoga powers. His role as a doctor was done only in the movie.
Does he really know a lot about San Francisco?
@@WantSomeWhiskey818 so i guess the USA cartoon did that too... he was in a lab coat in that too
If Arin starts naming and shouting moves in boxing he should do them in Japanese and they should translate to something ridiculous like "Millennium Death: Content Creator Fury Punch"
Whenever Cammy says "cannon drill" in this game I can only hear "Benadryl" and the move suddenly takes on a whole new meaning.
Haha benadryl! OMG hahaha!
I kind of hear "Canada". More "canadrill" if I'm honest.
Don't take more than directed.
@@BlackMoonHowls lol!
When Guile in SF-II says "HaDOOOUKEN!" it sounds like "Cool Whip!"
Not gonna lie, I've literally watched Street Fighter The Movie more than almost any other movie in existence, haha, it's one of the greatest accidental comedies of all time, and that dude playing Zangief deserved to be a star
1000% agreed!
"Quick, change the channel!"
it's so funny that this game is like from a bizarro alternate dimension where this exists and mortal kombat is made with anime sprites
I had NO idea the lady behind a lot of the better Mandolorian episodes (and who plays Fennec Shand) also played Chun Li.... mind... blown....
Ming-Na is versatile. Also the voice of Mulan in the original animated film. I still just recall her as Deb Chen from "er."
@@trinity31409 She's also aged extraordinarily well.
@@trinity31409and she was in agents of shield.
The Zangief actor is probably still jacked. His name is Andrew Bryniarski, he was in Batman Returns he played Max Shrek's son and he was also Leatherface in the 2006 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake.
When Dan asked how's that burger king, it went directly to a burger king add!! Haha perfect
Can't believe Game Grumps are selling out /jk
Cue jilted Wendy's tweet?
So i looked up Blade's movelist, and wow it's not surprising Arin couldn't find any moves. His movelist is completely insane. The only reasonable command he has only works in the air, and all his other moves are stuff like forward back forward attack, or hold a specific button down and then release it, like Cody's Zonk Knuckle or Falke's Psycho Shot.
Did you mean Cody? From what I remember, Ed doesn't have a negative edge special
@@nawfanial you're right, i forgot exactly how ed's moves worked, i just remembered that they weren't traditional motions. More specifically, i think i was thinking of Falke's psycho shot, and since she and ed are similar i just assumed he also had a move like that. Fixed my original comment.
Literally Mortal Kombat motions of the time this was released
(10:52) *_"Are you sure you don't have to start over? Nobody's grayed out again."_*
(Everyone gets grayed out)
*_"Oh, everybody's grayed out again..."_*
Impeccable timing, Dan.
There is just something surreal about jean claude van damme performing the sonic boom.
Wasn't he even stoned during filming this and all other scenes for this movie?
If Capcom doesn't give Cammy a "Silly Kick" skill in the upcoming Street Fighter 6, we riot.
We also need Ryu with a "Funky Monkey Kadaboo" skill.
I love Arin's subtle flexes of "oh this is from streetfighter ____" while he name drops half of them lol
just wanted to shout how much I love Arin's VA work in Advance Wars Reboot Camp, great work! 😊
Now this is some sweet street fighter 6 gameplay
It looks so real. they look like real people now
They should do a movie adaptation of this game
"Street Fighter: The Movie the Game the Movie
Remember that time Arin reinterpreted Guile's Speech? Such passion
Ming-Na Wen is seriously one of the most underrated actresses.
This is no joke one of my all time favorite Street Fighter games and I want to get a cabinet of it. The game is so busted it becomes fun, an example of this is that there is no cooldown timers so you can literally link moves into each other, Akuma has an infinite where if you can keep inputting the hurricane kick as soon as the last one ends it keeps linking. Also Boxer in most versions will automatically reflect projectile moves just by blocking.
This game did come out in name only for the PS1 and Saturn but it was heavily modified into playing closer to Super Street Fighter II Turbo. I remember being so excited back in the day getting this for my Saturn thinking it was the jank arcade game and was disappointed to find out it was like Super Turbo.
Fun fact, every character in this game has an infinite and the funniest one is Akuma has an infinite where he just does heavy tatsu over and over. If anyone wants to see some wild shit, look up tournaments for this game its awesome.
Also I vote to force Arin to play the abomination that is Street Fighter 1, please for the love of God make this happen!
Oh God no, not street fighter 1. I remember thinking the game was busted because I couldn't do any special moves.
I guess you have to hold the punch or kick button, then do the motion and then release the button.
What is this ? Primal rage lol
@@marccaselle8108 The funny thing is that even knowing that its a push and release system, its still REALLY hard to actually get them to come out lol
WOW, the input reading in this game. Turns out Zangief is pretty good when you can instantly react with the exact counter move to the poke the other guy throws out.
I give this episode two "HYUHHHHH"s up.
Fun fact: There's actually TWO 'Street Fighter: The Movie' games. The arcade version is a completely different game, with bigger character sprites and different stages. The console versions were remade from the ground up.
Also, the arcade version was developed by Acclaim while the console version was developed by CAPCOM themselves.
It is one of those "it's so bad it's good" thing and of course Rahul Julia is just EPIC in this.... if I remember right Mr. Julia made the movie for his kids because they liked Street Fighter
I used to have Street Fighter: The Movie memorized line for line when I was about 10, it used to annoy the hell out of my friends.
If anyone was curious, Zangief was portrayed by Andrew Bryniarski, he's actually only 54 years old as of February, he's 6'5, a bodybuilder, and played Leatherface in the 2000s-era remakes of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies!
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game: The Novelization: The Comic Strip: The Movie: On Ice
I met Wes Studi once. A very quiet yet respectful soul.
he does seem like a really cool dude
Before he began his iconic gaming channel, Arin made himself super oily by the bog in the hopes that doing so would help him get superpowers from an electric eel.
FINALLY I get to see the Grumps play one of the few video games where you can actually play as Kylie Minogue. I'm just sad it took Arin so long to get to her.
Also yes, the movie was fantastic. Not the best movie, not the best video game movie; but it was at least decently close to its source material, and more importantly, fun as well. Good casting, too.
I have the extreme edition of sf the movie on DVD.
i don't fault anyone for defending the movie but... it's not close to the source material at all. it's infamously not close to the source material. 😂
I'm taking my friend to see the grumps in London for his birthday and we plan on dressing up as the super bunny men, cannot wait
Aw man, when Arin picked Guile I wanted to hear Guile's Theme. I've never played Street Fighter and didn't even know there was a movie until now, and Guile's Theme is the only thing I know because it's so good and has so many memes lol
When sf2 first came out for super Nintendo. I used to place a tape recorder up to the speakers and record the games music to a cassette tape.
This way many years before websites had video game soundtracks you could download.
I actually thought this was a VS for a few rounds. Would like to see Arin play more SF impressive lore knowledge.
Did you know that the actor who plays the main bad guy agreed to this movie cuz he had cancer and his kids loved the game. What a legend
His name is Raul Julia put some respeckt on his name
Crazy that this game is almost 30 years old and Ming-Na Wen is still hot today.
Asian women stop aging at 20 then turn into dwarf raisins overnight when they hit 60, isn't this common knowledge?
She will be 60 in November, and I agree.
@@QuackersCo SHE'S 59? Good Lord she's SMOKING for someone who could be a great-grandmother. Hell, she's gorgeous for any age, but at 59!?
@@officiallyjan8596 she got damn good genes. she probably also works out and eats healthy, two things i need to start doing ASAP lmao
Dhalsim described as gooey and rubbery by Dan just made my day.
There was a guy checking me out at a grocery store with spacers. I was like "Oh, cool, like Dhalsim."
That was the first day I got called "ma'am."
way back in the day when UA-cam was still in its infancy back in 2006 or 2007, there used to be a guy sick0fant who did a "preview" video of his full review of this game. it was one of my first favorite videos on this site lol
now it's on Game Grumps 16-17 years later. We've come full circle
The Wha Happun on this game is one of my favourites when I'm feeling down, so I'm super excited for this!!
Probably the first time at least in a while I've seen them (mainly arin) really struggle to actually end the episode because he was having so much fun
Yeah, this game is surprisingly good
Arin, based on your use of "Super Desperation Move" (and your old DeviantArt I SEE YOU), I have a feeling you are secretly a huge SNK/KoF fan and WE NEED YOUR SKIIIIILLLLS! Even play one of the weird ones like KOF: Maximum Impact or Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition for entertainment value
Grumps: "What's up Europe!?"
My brain watching this at 7:30 AM: "What's up? You're up!"
The literal second that Dan asked "How's that Burger King", a burger kind ad came on.
Can't believe Game Grumps are selling out.
@@resileaf9501 it's a sad day when the Game Grumps sell out
3:51 屋台 (Yatai) means food cart/stall. You mispronounce one syllable in japanese, and suddenly "I did it!" becomes "taco truck!"
I briefly thought Arin's little "heh!" noises over the Spinning Lariat were happening in the game, and I really liked the world I lived in while I believed that.
OMG THIS WAS GREAT! CAN WE PLEASE GET A VIDEO WHERE THE GRUMPS WATCH THE MOVIE TOGETHER???
Sagat did an Evil Eye where he lifts up his eye patch to scare his opponent.
I swear when Sagat wins, he sounds like he's saying "F**$ off!" Very appropriate for the Balrog fight. xD
Also... Cannon Spike was originally called Thrust Kick, even in SF2, lol
"What's the most iconic move in the franchise?"
Chun Li: "Hadouken!"
“How does he grab you with boxing gloves?”
Somewhere Strong Bad’s non-existent ears are burning, and he doesn’t know why~

If I had a nickel for every time he brought up Blanka's "for-real backstory", I'd have 2 nickels
I'm disappointed it didn't cause an argument again.
In an alternate universe Mike Tyson is a character in Street Fighter and Jean Claude Van Damme is a character in Mortal Kombat.
*"I'm the Slam Master! I'M THE ONE WHO SLAMS!!"*

"Hey Arin how's that burger king?"
*burger king ad immediately starts playing*
Four minutes in and I realized something.
I need to get this game.
Sagat isn't Sagat unless he's screaming "TIGER" over and over.
I used to play sf2 CE at arcades a lot when it was brand new. I could get to Sagat regularly.
Sometimes, it sounded like he said "hyper"
@@marccaselle8108 Exactly. He repeats it so many times that the word starts losing meaning and sounds like something else.
This was an absolute blessing, thanks for making my day guys, HYUUUUUHH

HAS THE PLANET GONE MAD?!
MY BROTHER - PASSION'S HOSTAGE! I SEEK JUSTICE? DENIED!
Aw dude I get to watch this and Matt McMuscles Let’s Watch the Street Fighter cartoon this is awesome!!! I hope Arin blesses us with more of his Street Fighter knowledge
I am very excited to hear the speech from Arin, repeatedly most likely
But I have to say, I'm a little sad to see we will not be rolling more sausages today
Fun fact, Chun-li is played by Ming-na Wen in the Street Fighter movie. You may recognize her as Agent Mei in Agents of SHIELD, and Disney's Mulan before that.
And from The Mandalorian + The Book of Boba Fett
Pretty sure she was the main character in final fantasy the spirits within as well
Nice you played the arcade version. It's crazy.
The very first thing I thought of was "Troohpers! We have neworders." 😂
"I'm going to *kick* ... that sunoffabitch Bison's ass so *HOARD* ... that the next Bison wunnuhbee ... isgonnafeelit."
Actually in original Super Street Fighter 2 where Cammy was introduced that move was cannon drill.
That movie Dan was talking about where Raul Julia yells at the cop was Addams Family Values, one of the other movies of all time.
Cammy's move was originally called "Cannon Drill" in Super Street Fighter II. It's had different names since, including Cannon Spike and Spiral Arrow.
Idk why, but the fact that the video game based on the movie based on the video game exists, bring me joy.
Raul Julia gave us so much, his voice acting in the Addams Family Pinball started my love of pinball!
Everytime I hear someone go "comin' at you" I just think of Arin going "Like Cleapatru" in my head
9:15 ish - ok, that jump under the fireball into a shouryuken was really good looking
I remember seeing Street Fighter: The Movie on VHS around 1997. Rented it from Blockbuster (Yeah, I'm old😅).
Already got my ticket and can't wait to see you in Hamburg. Much love to the whole GameGrumps crew.
(Adjusts glasses), um... akchually Arin, the canon spike was originaly called the thrust kick in Super Street Fighter 2.
A lot of Capcom franchises take place in the Street Fighter universe.
The list includes the likes of Final Fight, Saturday Night Slammasters, Strider, Rival Schools, and Captain Commando.
I do love how over the years they made Chun-Li thiccer and thiccer
She never skipped Thigh Day.
Andrew Bryniarski is the guy who played Zangeif. He still did stuff recently (albeit pre covid times). He's 6'5" and a bodybuilder.
At 25:48
I was already a giggly b|tch by this point but that single jab from Balrog knocking her outta the air really got me good!! Lmfao!!😂😂
I'm glad it's come full circle for Arin. He was talking about wanting to play this game way back when they played The Bee Movie the game the video 😭 🎉
For some reason, since SSF2, Cammy's moveset was renamed between the Japanese and English versions of the game: "Cannon Spike" became "Thrust Kick", and "Spiral Arrow" became "Cannon Drill". No clue why that was a thing, though they did have the voice actress(es) perform both lines. This would continue until the "Capcom VS SNK" series, where they would make the JPN moveset the official names going forward.
Okay I have an idea for Dan!
Dan-Lee Dinos!
Arin and Dan play dinosaur themed games and Dan shares his dino knowledge while also learning about new dino facts!
Cammy in western releases of street fighter used cannon drill and thrust kick for spiral arrow and cannon spike respectively. Arin is also correct about Chun-Li is supported to be saying やった "Yatta!" (Hurray!) Because she is happy that she won the match. Yattai is just a mishearing of やった and is just an error.
Fun fact: in order to distinguish this game from the game adaption of Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (completely unrelated to the movie this game was based on), this game got released as *Street Fighter: Real Battle on Film* in Japan, which, I'm sure we can all agree, is a sick name.
This sparked some weird deep rooted childhood memories… it was for sure the first street fighter game I played as a kid, and the reason why I thought these were real people growing up
Dan: "Hey Arin, how's that Burger King?"
Applebee's ad: "Juuust the two of us~"
I love watching arin get mad saying it’s cannon spike not cannon drill but the move is spiral arrow 16:00
0:30 At first I thought I saw the STP "Purple" album cover on the wall. (It's dark and pixelated.)
