Sounds about right.. I just love how Amygdala rips off it's arms compared to Last Giant. Last Giant is slow and hesitant, makes it obvious what he's going to do. Amygdala just says 'fuck it' and rips off it's arms.
I turn music to 8, voice to 10, and effects to 5. Its high enough to hear most sound queues during the levels, and low enough that I pretty much only hear the music during fights

I love Amygdala. Probably one of my favorite boss fights ever. I just love how it just totally goes against the natural Souls formula (*Sees boss whose legs are taller than character, smack legs until dead*). A weak head and arms, but strong legs, and the head can be hit by taking risks and baiting the big attacks. Then it gets desperate. It's losing the fight, and it really wants to kill you. Amygdala proceeds to go all Last Giant on your ass, and gets serious: the attacks you could dodge with ease before (i.e., the jump) become much less simple to avoid. Almost every attack can one-shot you in the last phase, but you still have to bait out attacks, especially with the arms that were easiest to hit being ripped out. Very easy with a BT build or even a cannon, for that matter, but it still feels great to take this thing down.
Would you hate it if I admitted that I beat Defiled Amygdala on my first try? (Sure, I totally cheesed her, but in my defense: That Defiled Chalice put me in a _really_ bad mood.)

yeah, I'm just in the part of the game where I finally killed Rom and now I ventured to Yahar'Gul for real this time, found a key, it got me to the top of the workshop tower, then I realized that the place where I fought Amelia is actually beneath the damn clocktower. and found the bossfight above it, with fucking aliens, and then I found out what the fuck is hidden benath it... and then I got into the Nightmare Frontier, and after I got through those singing pieces of shit I got to the arena with a motherfucking alien-space-god-spider-bullshit called Amygdala... This game's awesomenest cannot be described in words

Amygdala, the emotional part of the brain. The more and more I look at this game, its becomes more of a psychological horror. And I question how much of this is part of the Hunter's Dream? And if this all just a bad dream?
***** There is a theory that both Yharnam and the Hunter's Dream are all still part of one dream, or both are separate realms you travel between. Gerhman created the Hunter's Dream through the umbilical cords of a Great One, ascending in greater heights in strength and knowledge. But is forever stuck in the Hunter's Dream, that is why the Doll and the Abandoned workshop are in the same realm. Gerhman, who created the Hunter's Workshop was also the First Hunter created the weapons and the armor that later inspired the healing church to use for their own methods of killing beasts, though I have no idea what Gerhman's fixation with doll are all about, Gerhman's goal was to dispatch the beasts, and doing so he needed to attain more power and knowledge on how to destroy them, and where they come from. When he did, he ascended and became stuck in a reality in which he created (Unless something created it for him, and is using Gerhman for their own agenda). In the end, you travel between realms, allowing you to not stay dead and bringing the impossible of objects into another realm. This theory can go hand in hand also of this impossible reality, due to the fact that the Quick Silver bullets (A.K.A Mercury Bullets) can be produced when ouT jab yourself and produce bullets. How does this work? Through either a crazy hallucinations, a dream, or power ascending beyond realms and reality. In the end though, these tropes that we try to confine ourselves into believing will never remain true. Thee are infinite possibilities for interpretations and cannot all be answered.
+Nyarlathotep93 I know about the tropes of H.P. Lovecraftian horrors, the whole game is themed after it, where a realm in which we cannot comprehend is baffling and dumbstruck to mere mortals. The mere mention of Old and Great ones sparked that notion of H.P. Lovecraftian tingles down your spine, along with the mention of gaining insight and growing eyes in your brain to see things we generally don't see. All of the bosses themselves are either worshippers of these Great Ones or are infact Great Ones. Some of the creatures like the Amygdala and the Daughter of the Cosmo have similar looks to that of the creatures who hold the Great Library of Knowledge from H.P. Lovecraft. Its just so odd and strange to see these themes play out in something that is so closely related to a souls game, a game series about fantasy medieval demons and creatures. :P
The dream goes on even if the hunter chooses to leave. Look at the graves of all the other hunters. When you start NG+. You'll find the doll mourning at your grave.
I love how they made what is essentially a lovecraftian being a viable enemy in the game. What most games do wrong when incorporating The Great Old Ones is giving them a life bar when they are always supposed to represent nihilism and our relative insignificance rather than be an enemy. But they found a way around it by giving the build up to the enemy symbolic meaning (Yes I saw what they did there; calling the beast 'Amygdala'). This game really is a masterpiece!
So what you're saying is the thing we fight is just a projection of our own fear kind of thing? And the real amygdala or whatever controls them is far beyond our comprehension let alone being able to kill it?
Also notable is that, over the course of Bloodborne, including The Old Hunters, we only get the opportunity to truly kill 3 Great Ones: Mergo and Orphan of Kos, both newborns, and Moon Presence, who is fought at a point when the player character is on the cusp of transcending their humanity and joining their ranks. Amygdala, Rom, Ebrietas, and the Celestial Emissary, while possible to defeat, cannot truly be killed, as they will just show up again in the chalice dungeons, healthy as ever. Amygdala in particular takes this even further, being present all over Cathedral Ward and Yahar'Gul at the _same time,_ even being visible in multiple locations simultaneously in Yahar'Gul. And killing Amygdala in the Nightmare Frontier has no effect, at all, on its many manifestations across Yharnam.
Yeah if I remember correctly, all the Amygdala are just projections/manifestations, sort of physical illusions if you will, of the real one presumably on another plane of existence or something. So while you can get rid of one of the fakes, you can never truly kill it.
A boss that attacks you with small galaxies and shooting stars to then rip it's arms off and Blood comes gushing out like sanguine wings, then you finally slay it and the sweat blood showers upon you like a cleansing rain. When all is melted in blood, all is reborn!

This theme definitely states your fighting something truly terrifying. Honestly, i wanted a sort of chase scene, with an Amygdala tearing down a bridge as you run across it. Do you know how truly bad ass that would be? But having like the only Dream Amygdala jump from a tower is pretty awesome.
Why are all of these soundtracks so amazing!? I find them much better than Dark Souls and Demon's Souls! Dark and Demon's Souls had simply a few soundtracks that were amazing, these are all good!
Perhaps because there were two different composers working on this one. Miyazaki wasn't happy about DkS2 either, so he was probably pretty strict when it had ANYTHING to do with atmosphere.

DecoyBlackMage Its been awhile but I remember reading his thoughts about DkS2. You're making as many claims as me by calling me a liar anyway, I could just have read something wrong. But it wouldn't be surprising if that was the case. There was barely any tragedy in DkS2 compared to the other games and just as little emotion. The only character I recall that had a tragic fate was Lucatiel, and I found myself complete uninterested in her. The game also lacks the same level of atmosphere as the other titles. Now, I think Dks2 is a good game, in fact I like it's PvP more than Dks1, but I don't feel like it had the same kind of souls put into it. Pun completely intended.

TheDustyMuffinsss My problem is its a rumor, one oriented by the " B team " hate squad on the various reddits for the game. I am a fan of the creator and studio, and have been paying attention to their interviews etc. They are proud of what they did with Dark Souls 2, but people love making stuff up, and ignoring all the positives, that bothers me a lot. To me, you thus essentially help spread what is honestly false information, sorry if I was being a bit aggressive with my words, but I kinda am a very in your face type of person, so I do apologize for how I said it, but I still stand by why I said it. Artistically, Dark souls 2, is a lot brighter and more colorful, I think this was done in an effort to push the game further towards the original Kings Field games, which had a very similar color palette and feel. As for how we connect to characters etc, that is going to be different for everyone, Dark Souls 2 story is not about characters though, that is what people generally do not realize, there is plenty of tragedy in the game actually when you think about this, you see. The game is about the land, not about the characters you meet. Its story is based on the history you uncover as you walk trough a land, covered in kingdoms that have fallen to ruin and been forgotten, the very land itself, is becoming hollow.
Chutulu in the lore: undiscribable alien priest that transcends physical laws and can destroy humanity if he wakes up. Chutulu in the actual book: gets knocked out back to sleep by a boat. Great ones in the lore: Multidimensional cosmic beings so powerful that even their blood is able to mutate humans into vicious beasts and are capable of manipulating the very fabric of reality to the point even one of the weaker ones is capable of creating entire dream realms to trap people into to do his biddind and another one was able to influence this dream realm before even being born. Great ones in-game: die to blunt weapons and guns

mmm, it's true, we can feel sadness beacuse Yharnam was a very glorious city, but now is accursed and most of his habitants became monsters, we feel sad for the girl who lost her mother, for Eileen the crow, for hunters like ludwig... We feel that we are facing a great force that we can not understand and that has no beginning, no end and we feel crushed beacuse his magnitude, but at the same time, we don't want to stop fighting, we want to end all of this.
there is not only one Amygdala, by destroying this one we destroy ONE nightmare dimension, there are a lot around the city and even inside the dreams and nigthmares, this means we dont destry fear itself, there are tons of them, we destroy the nightmare produced by this fear
I absolutely loved this boss fight. It's not like the most of battles, the theme which accompanies it actually makes you feel heroic. You are fighting against a galactic entity, avoiding deadly lasers and swiftly getting covered on it's blood. Such epicness...

The tentacle amygdala are actually referred to as "lesser amygdala" in the files and some dialouge. So my theory is that those lesser amygdala are just younger amygdala that haven't fully matured yet and those tentacles will just fall of at a certain point or the lesser amygdala are just avatars or puppets of the amygdala we actually fight.
Al Fall 2007 I'm particularly fond of the second theory. I like to believe that all of the ones we see are merely projections of the true, "main" one, the one that we fight.
I love this track, how it drives the emotion that you felt when first discovering of the existence of this otherworldly presence that you never even noticed was watching you the whole time. And now you gotta fight it. Towards the second half of the song, it shifts from initial shock into, "Holy shit, I'm fucked, how can I even fight this thing?" Taking down this hulking eldritch abomination was satisfying to no end.
You know, when I think about it an Amygdala is really just a very big Mi-Go. Wait, Does that mean he's going to take my brain and put it into a jar? Or maybe after getting caught my brain has already been put into a jar and the Nightmare Frontier is just an illusion created by my brain to cope with the trauma . But that would also mean everything in the game hereafter is just a figment of my imagination. Oh dear.

That part really fucked with me because of a bug, probably related to the DLC, that caused my PS4 to freeze on a black screen after I got grabbed. Only happened once.
Suddenly, laser beams. I wonder why the Amygdala you fight in the Nightmare Frontier is a bit different from the others that you see plaguing Yharnam. Just look at the others, there quite larger and have these mouth tentacles.
That's because the one you fight is the leader of them, the others you see in the city are simply called "lesser" Amygdala and no Amygdala is actually the same size as the others you just fight it in a huge open arena making it look "small" in comparison is a simple mind trick that we all fall for but Amygdala is indeed the same size as the others.

Just beat the defiled Amy, and I know you won’t believe this but for some reason I want to fight it again….sensory wise the entire boss fight was just so damn pleasing. I used threaded cane and for projectile I used blacksky eye. I know amygdalas have a built in arcane damage resistance but for some reason I just wanted to fight fire with fire and show that a mere human can be threatening.
Anyone else notice how parts of this theme sound really similar gehrmans boss theme? that and the Brain Trusts/Winter Lanterns/Singing brain ladies/ where clothes like the dolls... are they connected some how?
To be fair, I found her easy at first, but I think facing her in the defiled dungeon really honored her. Took me four tries in the latter, but it took me some 15 minutes in said try, being extra careful and profitting from the music. No regrets. Also her music somehow inspires pity more than fear... a true masterpiece anyway

patches gives you the tonsil stone. translating tonsil from english to french becomes amygdale, and translating it to spanish or portugese, tonsil becomes amìgdala. additionally, amygdala is latin for almond.
It's a shame that in the heat of the boss fights, I don't realize to just how incredible the background music to accompany them are.

My threaded cane Dex build reached his head regardless of baiting, and goddamn did it work wonders
Well... I just killed Amygdala (first time playing Bloodborne) and I was stick to his butt and everything went very good, killing it in first try.
Bolt paper and Ludwig’s make him real easy. Though I guess Ludwig’s Holy Blade makes a lot of things easy.

***** There is a theory that both Yharnam and the Hunter's Dream are all still part of one dream, or both are separate realms you travel between. Gerhman created the Hunter's Dream through the umbilical cords of a Great One, ascending in greater heights in strength and knowledge. But is forever stuck in the Hunter's Dream, that is why the Doll and the Abandoned workshop are in the same realm. Gerhman, who created the Hunter's Workshop was also the First Hunter created the weapons and the armor that later inspired the healing church to use for their own methods of killing beasts, though I have no idea what Gerhman's fixation with doll are all about, Gerhman's goal was to dispatch the beasts, and doing so he needed to attain more power and knowledge on how to destroy them, and where they come from. When he did, he ascended and became stuck in a reality in which he created (Unless something created it for him, and is using Gerhman for their own agenda). In the end, you travel between realms, allowing you to not stay dead and bringing the impossible of objects into another realm. This theory can go hand in hand also of this impossible reality, due to the fact that the Quick Silver bullets (A.K.A Mercury Bullets) can be produced when ouT jab yourself and produce bullets. How does this work? Through either a crazy hallucinations, a dream, or power ascending beyond realms and reality. In the end though, these tropes that we try to confine ourselves into believing will never remain true. Thee are infinite possibilities for interpretations and cannot all be answered.
+Nyarlathotep93 I know about the tropes of H.P. Lovecraftian horrors, the whole game is themed after it, where a realm in which we cannot comprehend is baffling and dumbstruck to mere mortals. The mere mention of Old and Great ones sparked that notion of H.P. Lovecraftian tingles down your spine, along with the mention of gaining insight and growing eyes in your brain to see things we generally don't see. All of the bosses themselves are either worshippers of these Great Ones or are infact Great Ones. Some of the creatures like the Amygdala and the Daughter of the Cosmo have similar looks to that of the creatures who hold the Great Library of Knowledge from H.P. Lovecraft. Its just so odd and strange to see these themes play out in something that is so closely related to a souls game, a game series about fantasy medieval demons and creatures. :P
The dream goes on even if the hunter chooses to leave. Look at the graves of all the other hunters. When you start NG+. You'll find the doll mourning at your grave.

I love how they made what is essentially a lovecraftian being a viable enemy in the game. What most games do wrong when incorporating The Great Old Ones is giving them a life bar when they are always supposed to represent nihilism and our relative insignificance rather than be an enemy.
But they found a way around it by giving the build up to the enemy symbolic meaning (Yes I saw what they did there; calling the beast 'Amygdala'). This game really is a masterpiece!

Also notable is that, over the course of Bloodborne, including The Old Hunters, we only get the opportunity to truly kill 3 Great Ones: Mergo and Orphan of Kos, both newborns, and Moon Presence, who is fought at a point when the player character is on the cusp of transcending their humanity and joining their ranks. Amygdala, Rom, Ebrietas, and the Celestial Emissary, while possible to defeat, cannot truly be killed, as they will just show up again in the chalice dungeons, healthy as ever. Amygdala in particular takes this even further, being present all over Cathedral Ward and Yahar'Gul at the _same time,_ even being visible in multiple locations simultaneously in Yahar'Gul. And killing Amygdala in the Nightmare Frontier has no effect, at all, on its many manifestations across Yharnam.
Yeah if I remember correctly, all the Amygdala are just projections/manifestations, sort of physical illusions if you will, of the real one presumably on another plane of existence or something. So while you can get rid of one of the fakes, you can never truly kill it.
A boss that attacks you with small galaxies and shooting stars to then rip it's arms off and Blood comes gushing out like sanguine wings, then you finally slay it and the sweat blood showers upon you like a cleansing rain. When all is melted in blood, all is reborn!

Perhaps because there were two different composers working on this one. Miyazaki wasn't happy about DkS2 either, so he was probably pretty strict when it had ANYTHING to do with atmosphere.

DecoyBlackMage Its been awhile but I remember reading his thoughts about DkS2. You're making as many claims as me by calling me a liar anyway, I could just have read something wrong.
But it wouldn't be surprising if that was the case. There was barely any tragedy in DkS2 compared to the other games and just as little emotion. The only character I recall that had a tragic fate was Lucatiel, and I found myself complete uninterested in her. The game also lacks the same level of atmosphere as the other titles.
Now, I think Dks2 is a good game, in fact I like it's PvP more than Dks1, but I don't feel like it had the same kind of souls put into it. Pun completely intended.

I am a fan of the creator and studio, and have been paying attention to their interviews etc.
They are proud of what they did with Dark Souls 2, but people love making stuff up, and ignoring all the positives, that bothers me a lot.
To me, you thus essentially help spread what is honestly false information, sorry if I was being a bit aggressive with my words, but I kinda am a very in your face type of person, so I do apologize for how I said it, but I still stand by why I said it.
Artistically, Dark souls 2, is a lot brighter and more colorful, I think this was done in an effort to push the game further towards the original Kings Field games, which had a very similar color palette and feel.
As for how we connect to characters etc, that is going to be different for everyone, Dark Souls 2 story is not about characters though, that is what people generally do not realize, there is plenty of tragedy in the game actually when you think about this, you see.
The game is about the land, not about the characters you meet.
Its story is based on the history you uncover as you walk trough a land, covered in kingdoms that have fallen to ruin and been forgotten, the very land itself, is becoming hollow.
Chutulu in the lore: undiscribable alien priest that transcends physical laws and can destroy humanity if he wakes up.
Chutulu in the actual book: gets knocked out back to sleep by a boat.
Great ones in the lore: Multidimensional cosmic beings so powerful that even their blood is able to mutate humans into vicious beasts and are capable of manipulating the very fabric of reality to the point even one of the weaker ones is capable of creating entire dream realms to trap people into to do his biddind and another one was able to influence this dream realm before even being born.
Great ones in-game: die to blunt weapons and guns
To be fair hunters are using their blood for power, so logically it makes sense using their own power against them would work.

I absolutely loved this boss fight. It's not like the most of battles, the theme which accompanies it actually makes you feel heroic. You are fighting against a galactic entity, avoiding deadly lasers and swiftly getting covered on it's blood.

The tentacle amygdala are actually referred to as "lesser amygdala" in the files and some dialouge. So my theory is that those lesser amygdala are just younger amygdala that haven't fully matured yet and those tentacles will just fall of at a certain point or the lesser amygdala are just avatars or puppets of the amygdala we actually fight.
Al Fall 2007 I'm particularly fond of the second theory. I like to believe that all of the ones we see are merely projections of the true, "main" one, the one that we fight.

And now you gotta fight it. Towards the second half of the song, it shifts from initial shock into, "Holy shit, I'm fucked, how can I even fight this thing?" Taking down this hulking eldritch abomination was satisfying to no end.

I wonder why the Amygdala you fight in the Nightmare Frontier is a bit different from the others that you see plaguing Yharnam. Just look at the others, there quite larger and have these mouth tentacles.
That's because the one you fight is the leader of them, the others you see in the city are simply called "lesser" Amygdala and no Amygdala is actually the same size as the others you just fight it in a huge open arena making it look "small" in comparison is a simple mind trick that we all fall for but Amygdala is indeed the same size as the others.

Just beat the defiled Amy, and I know you won’t believe this but for some reason I want to fight it again….sensory wise the entire boss fight was just so damn pleasing.
I used threaded cane and for projectile I used blacksky eye. I know amygdalas have a built in arcane damage resistance but for some reason I just wanted to fight fire with fire and show that a mere human can be threatening.
