  • Here's a big beastie for you. Really nice Takamine GJ72CE NAT jumbo model guitar. Solid spruce and flamed maple - excellent electronics too. See if you can deal....

I have the 12 string version of this guitar and it is a mgical instrument. Loudest acoustic I have ever played. Wonderful.

Got one just like that one. Absolutely one of the best jumbo guitars for the price point. Get a lot of compliments when I take it out of the case. Very beautiful to look at and even more beautiful sounding plugged or unplugged. No complaints what so ever.

Yes, they are very decent - especially the ones with flamed maple backs. Glad you got a good one.

Great review man. I bought this exact guitar 2 years ago. The sound is great and it's nice and loud to play unplugged in a pub. However the strings do have to be changed every few months to maintain that nice clean loud resonance it had the day I bought it from the guitar store. The only thing I could fault it on is it's weight. I only realised how heavy it was a few months after I bought it. My Mother has a 45 year old Suzuki jumbo and it is half its weight and the strings only need to be replaced every few years. Don't know why they made it so heavy but it's probably all that maple. Apart from that she is a beauty. Thank you for this great review sir

That’s a big guitar. Thanks for educating me. I never realized guitars can vary in size!

Thank you for your excellent breakdown video!
I own both the 6 string, BSB, and the 12 string NAT GJ72CE's, along with several other Takamine acoustics. The jumbo type are my favorites. Although I love the TK40D preamp, I've modified the piezo connectors, to fit the CB4TII Takamine preamp. They give a slightly softer projection and have a few more features.

The Taks are really nice. I recently reviewed a Jumbo by Sawtooth that was surprisingly good too.

You're "all blond" To-ku-me-nay is really appealing. I've got a Takamine G series dreadnought --GD93. Luv that guitar. Very well made. I'm tall-ish with long fingers, so the dreadnought size works well for me.

I have this exact model, it's definitely a picker not a strummer. However my action is quite high, still haven't adjusted anything which makes it harder to pick. Anyway when you have two separate assys or parts of a guitar that are made of the same material even colour, you can no longer say that either one does not match anything else on the guitar. 👍

These jumbo guitars really look grand. I think they are a great choice for people who play in a band and need an acoustic guitar for some songs. But just because these guitars are big does not mean they are necessarily louder than smaller guitars, if played without being plugged into an amp. I am still a bit clueless about the jumbo I bought (Gretsch). But I can understand why they attract people.

True, the Jumbo doesn't necessarily project more than a Dreadnought.

The upside down mountain is Mount Fuji!! Not entirely surprising as it’s a Japanese guitar brand!

What guitar would you recommend for a beginner price range 500-700

Blueridge, Fender Paramount, Seagull, Yamaha A1 series, Alvarez AD series, you might even find a used Yairi or Taylor 114 at this price.

If you'd like to stick with Takamine, I'd recommend the GD30CE series ( Both 6 & 12 string models ) dreadnought. They sell for around $500 ( you can sometimes find a deal @ $450 and they come in Nat, black and, I believe they now come in red. They're solid Sitka spruce tops with mahogany laminate, back and sides. The preamp is the Takamine TP-4TD which is driven by a split saddle, the same as the GJ72CE.

Is there a takamine jumbo case “acoustic guitar” which is not an “electric acouistic guitar”?

Takamines are pretty dependable and sound nice. I have a black G series dreadnought. G330SB.
That jumbo is pretty though. I've always been good with Jumbo guitars. I'm only 5'7". LOL!!

This axe is top of my list. Have a couple of fine dreadnoughts but always been intrigued by jumbo.
Pretty much quit playing solid body electrics for two reasons......I'm 6'8" 280 lbs. so I look like a dork playing a Les Paul or a Telecaster unless
I 'm sitting. Also, my playing style is a somewhat flamboyant, almost flamenco style strumming rhythm along with full chords arpeggios. Like Pete Townshend on steroids.
Pisses me off whenever I would show up for a jam session or a gig with a Stratocaster and an acoustic simulator and some asshole asks me if I know any Van Halen. I'd tell them, "No, and neither do you, dip-shit".
Anyhoo, hopefully when I get caught up on other financial things, a Takamine Jumbo will be MINE!

I'm sure Eddie would have appreciated a Tak Jumbo... they are very decent guitars.

A Tak like that will not be a cheap guitar... but it will resell easily and for a high % of what you have in it
