Awesome job, Scott! I just fit a butt plate on an old shotgun I just refinished and you gave me a great pointer on the buffing wheel. Thanks for sharing.
"If you mess it up, you gotta eat it". No gunsmith I've ever taken work to has ever had that philosophy. All the ones I've been to have had the philosophy of, "Messed up? Wasn't my fault."
Where can I get a sanding wheel like the one in this video. I checked Brownells but no luck. I can't come up with a good google search to find anything like it. Thanks for the great info!
Lyle W It's really tough to get in there and get a good picture. Scott's shop is like a Submarine... every inch is full of something useful. I'll keep trying to improve however, and thanks for the kind comments. Chris
I emailed and called Scott for information to have this done to an AK stock but never got a reply. I guess business is so fat, you don't need any more. Will find someone else local to me I guess.
Jewelers use exactly the same machine and wheels to finish fine jewelry. They need a better camera man though. he kept cutting the guys hands out of the shot.
you may want to look up the word WD 40.. under google.....states it a solvent .. adding a solvent to rubber will I thought break down rubber... like that rubber recoil pad? you may want to switch to a actual oil
Yeah you wouldn't want to keep putting it on there you basically just use it to clean it. Then wipe it off real good then condition it with a light oil. The WD-40 just takes the polishing Rouge off real good.
You don't even clean your drill bit when you drive it into the rubber pad, with all the shavings in there, you'll never get those out. Only takes a second, if you are that careless with that detail, what else are you careless with? I wouldn't send you my gun to work on. sorry.
Yes, because I missed a trophy buck once because as I shouldered my rifle, the buck spooked when he heard all 6 of the .5 mm x .5 mm shavings rattling around in the recoil pad.
You Sir, are a MO-RON. He has worked on MANY of my projects and NEVER EVER EVER has he disappointed me with the finished product. In some cases MAGIC happened, I could not believe the CRAFTSMANSHIP and ATTENTION to DETAIL that he gave me and what I was asking him to do. I would recommend him to ANYONE....BAR NONE.
Absolutely one of the best how-to / gunsmith videos I’ve seen! Scotty’s no nonsense, get it done style is great for video!!!
Scott has hands of gold! He really knows what he's doing, and the way he works you can tell he's been doing this for a long time. Amazing!
Something tells me he makes this look way easier than it really is. It’s an art! Excellent craftsmanship.

Very nice Video about mounting a Pachmayr Recoil Pad. Thanks for sharing
check out Scotty's videos on our channel. His work is awesome, craftmanship is very good.
Excellent video I used this process to install my own recoil pad and it worked very well. Thank you !
Thanks for your help guys
What grit sand papers did you use (on the wheel and the "fine" piece)?
very knowledgeable, Thank you

Fine work.
When you grind a rubber but down you wipe it down with STP son of a gun or armorall,.....then it slides past your clothing to shoulder quickly.
Thank you, a great video, well worth the watch!
Thanks for posting the video.
Excellent video Brother
nice work. the camera distorts things to the point of looking a bit "fun house mirror" but great info. thumbs up.

Whats that sandpaper/grinding attachment for that grinding wheel? Seems like a tool I need to invest in!!
It's an expander wheel, I found it on Eastwood website. www.eastwood.com/eastwood-expander-wheel.html
Wow 🔥
I didn't realize just how much time that goes into a butt plate and at the end it looks sweet.
Excellent work. How do we reach Scott.
what kind of material is the polishing wheel made of?
robert crosby That's a great question... I'll have to ask Scott. - Chris

I will call him and relay your message, sorry for the delay.

Ok, that is why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors.... you have a choice.
31acruz He's not nearly as careless with gunsmithing as you are with vomiting your low IQ on the internet.
