Past Blizzard is an irrelevant mention when the "good WoW" you speak of (i.e. I'm assuming Vanilla) first released in the mid 2000s, when the bar was comparatively very low.
Hoyoverse games are obviously good games when you see how many concurrent players there are globally (majority of which are from Asia and the West), it just makes sense that they eclipse Classic and Retail numbers combined when everything about the games are extremely polished experiences, also because their games are free.

Female character sale > Male character sale have been debunked over and over in MHY games where there is a significant female playerbase. What makes a very high sale is whether or not a character is meta with good dupes, in which most meta kits are unequally given to the female characters.

One thing Ive learned from years of gatcha gaming is this: The vast majority of players have zero contact with any "online community" surrounding the game. Reddit in particular is not the community, its a very tiny minority fraction of the player base who assemble in a single place to cry. I dont know why Reddit is the cry closet, but thats all it is. The opinions on Reddit are completely & entirely removed from the actual majority of the player base of a game.

TBH I think it's reasonable. A free characters might draw in more players, the announcement itself generates buzz, and game wise, a turn based game with a pokémon style really needs you to diversify your roster.
"Oh but Genshin has elements too" Yeah but you can't i-frame 99% of the damage like you do in Genshin. A fully built Beidou (A 4 Star) can solo a lot of content just by using her skill as a guard point and dodging anything she can't actually block, recently there has been a trend with Noelle (a 4 Star BASE character) where people found OP builds to let here play as main dps, you just can't do that in Star Rail
That's the point, like literally why Tank and Healer characters in Genshin considered bad, cause playwise you can always dodged if you good enough, and there's player out there that proofing it was entirely possible.
HSR is a turn based, look how people love Bailu even though she a literal Qiqi for HSR, cause healer in your team actually needed, it also help cause the combat system in HSR doesn't allow you to use item in battle for healing like any other turnbased game, so it really need to be a good team building.
Meanwhile many player sometimes can do Solo run in Genshin or even just using 2 Characters in party just because they can.

Everyone knew she is good on C6, she was clearing every abyss on easy mode until 2.2 - 2.4. If you want to act like you know something try better. Idk, i play genshin and when i heard of the free 5star in the other game i just thought "cool", i don't even consider the possibility of having a 5star gifted, because it never happened. It would be nice if they did, i guess, but it's no big deal, it's just like when they give a free 4star but with better animations.

This "drama" is wayyy too exaggerated. Most genshin players doesn't really give a shit about this lol. The actual big drama that happened in Genshin was the Zhongli drama in 2020, First Anniversary incident in 2021 and the Sonic vs Genshin in 2022. In 2023 not much "big drama" tbh.

It is actually incredible how many records genshin broke, how much money they made and how many people play it. And they have ALWAYS been stingy with rewards. Not even a 5 star weapon at least. 10 wishes per anniversary. Star Rail has been very generous with its free Gacha pulls.
the klee book the first year was the only 5* weapon they gave with an event (i don't remember if it was 4* or 5* now that i think of it)

Who gives a shit, seriously. Interest in star rail was going downhill after a lackluster story conclusion followed by filler patches, so they drum up hype by giving a 5* for free, and its working like a charm.
For more context about the Google Classroom thing Genshin anniversary rewards were so bad people review bombed the game so hard google locked reviews for Genshin. Not being able to take out their frustration by review bombing Genshin the mob dispersed and started review bombing random shit and google classroom was just one of the many apps/games that were caught in the crossfire.

The developers don't owe them anything "free" in the first place. As its a free to play game, their entire business model is to get you to buy the characters and spend more time grinding to level them. Honkai is their new game, they want to get more people to play it so they lure people in with a high tier character. Its as simple as that.

I uninstalled Star rail a week or so ago. I still play genshin a bit. I always did feel like my pulls in star rail always seemed to have better luck than my pulls in genshin though lol.

The problem is these people with autism wete never taught by their parents when they were young enough not to be absolute pieces of shit. There have been many times I've been heard in opinion from someone that I just thought was the stupidest thing in the world. But since I was taught the way to actually talk to people when I was a kid I know better than to just look him in the face and say that's fucking stupid. Instead I ask questions until They convince themselves that it's a bad idea. Like that story of the autistic kid that tried to be his teacher to death for taking his swift away during class. I had the same issue with anger than that guy did I'm telling hit 11 years old and my parents beat the shit out of me enough that I learned not to do it anymore. It was amazing I went from getting beat all the time to basically having no rules at all just because my behavior improved. To this day as an adult there are things I say and do simply because I know it's what a normal person would do though I have no real emotional feeling towards.

By the way Genshin conduct surveys and design the game, I can tell MHY is very metric driven and analytical. I wouldn't be surprised if the free 5-star idea is just them testing their player base's psychological reaction for future decisions.
HSR has a hundred more QoL still not in genshin, The genshin surveys are almost nonexistent since they don't even read them to improve on the parts needed improving while in HSR got a lot of QoL's and even some QoL's taken from Hi3rd their previous game, So it's really more of different dev teams than anything since they have like 5 or 6 different games it's the same company yeah but different teams
@@kentstopme oh nah bro, I love both games but hsr is the testing site for qol that will soon be implemented in genshin, look at the current updates, and a very recent leak said that they will add a better artifact auto equip than the relics in hsr. The only thing missing is the artifact loadouts.

Do we know the rates for 5 stars are the same? To me it feels like it takes a lot more pulls for 5 stars in star rail, so it makes me wonder if there is a different level of allowance for free 5 stars in star rail as it is a more punishing MTX model behind the scenes?
Its literally the same model, if not better in the case of weapon banner. 90 pulls for guarantee, soft pity starting at 70, 50/50. What star rail does better is that limited weapons have different banner one for new other for rerun unlike genshin where they share the banner.

Soulless Companies don't care about popularity but the Sales, and HSR have been killing it in Sales since from launch to October they have been #1 in sales with Genshin always either 2nd or 3rd in sales with the exception of this month cause of a particular Hydro Archon.
Honkai Impact 3rd have always been giving free stuff even if it's not a popular game because of the sales and an actual caring Dev Team, Stop coping and just admit the company should give out stuff in their million dollar earned game (genshin) for their players.

And you are right they care about sales, but they also care about popularity since that’s what is going to maintain the sales over time. Honkai impact does that because they know the game is not as popular so they need incentives to keep the players engaged and bring new players. Think about how many people are going to login to HSR again after months just to get the free character. Multiple other Gacha games do the same thing. It is possible that they don’t see the need to do that for genshin because it’s way more popular. I mean genshin is basically like gacha fortnite. It has remained one of the most popular games on mobile and worldwide for the last couple years. They know they don’t have to give away anything for free because the players will keep coming back regardless even if they complain.
Also I’m not a numbers Andy, but I did see something saying that hsr had dropped in sales the last couple of months or something like that. Maybe they got worried and pulled the trigger on the free character who knows. I don’t care about this “competition” between the two games btw. I think it’s massively cringe considering both games are gambling machines and are made by the same company, and the people complaining about the lack of free character will continue to pull for new ones regardless.

Jokes aside why can't we all just agree it's because they got 3 awards from 3 different groups back to back is the reason for the Free 5*, you all overanalyze it so much that not popular so they have to give free stuff but ever since launch and the following versions before the decline, it had lots of players and they have stayed generous with rewards (ex.10 free event pulls) since launch.
It's just a Dev team skill issue, The teams at another game just cares more about player feedbacks and gives rewards/quality of life changes than the other game with a team that barely gives a shit with no generosity or no needed quality of life changes to show for.
tbh, it's always been like that before since Honkai Impact 3rd. main reason is Genshin and Honkai development team have different director. I think Star-rail have the same previous director too.
and genshin director always the one that seems very corrupt. If you play HI3 you know they give everything almost free nowaday but certain competitive aspect still has paywall.
Of course HI3 been getting all the free stuff.. becuz nobody wanna stay playing it.. yes, I'm exaggerating but that's the reality of live service when companies need to advertise their games so it doesn't die.
@@tenkk_ch They would drop the game and go bankrupt if no one is playing it, but the thing is the 300 million fund of Genshin came from Honkai Impact 3rd's earnings and Genshin was only funded because of Honkai so you're way too wrong.
HI3rd is also getting a Part 2 Story and a latest Engine Revamp.
@@kentstopme Put all 3 games worldwide for the past 5 years on google trends and see for yourself. The ridiculous amount of copium some people have is beyond my understanding. Heck we don't even need to mention Genshin here because HI3 doesn't even have a good fraction of Star Rail's interest.
@@tenkk_ch Honkai was big as fuck before genshin with all their ad always on my youtube feed, It died down because Part 1 finished and they are on a 1 year story drought in anticipation for Part 2.
All 3 fandoms are both loud and even more so after playing Star Rail, so many loud people were reccomending me to play Honkai just cause I mentioned I like Welt's lore from Star Rail and here i am still at the beginning though but im enjoying it so far.

Yes, the game is not dead just like I said in my first reply I was exaggerating. But statistics made by Genshin had raised the bar unbelievably high which made hi3 seemed like a game that is barely played by anyone. From a company's standpoint, is not entirely a good thing obviously. So giving free things is just a very good way of advertising their other game since the company has already been getting a lot more attention since the unexpected rise of Genshin.

I think Genshin is in a unique spot because it's got no PvP or hardcore PvE content. This just makes it a massive circlejerk. In other games where you have PvP and units getting buffed and nerfed according to the meta, the players will absolutely shit on the devs constantly. I've been part of gacha games where the playerbase was way more aware and wouldn't give the devs any room for exploiting them beyond what they already signed up for (a gacha system).

It isn't that it costs nothing for them to give a five star or even five star selector. It's that it costs legal issues for them to try. The chinese government is STRICT on this stuff, if a game is made X way, they legally cannot change it without direct okay from the government. This is the reason Dehya was terrible and remains terrible, it's the reason Aloy will never come back, etc.
Cinnabar Spindle and lots of weapons wont come back. Because they stated X thing is limited, or Y thing is one time, etc. The game is built on this ground, and because of this in the chinese government, they uphold that HORRIBLY. Star Rail runs because Genshin has to be made to walk off it solidifying it's game in ways that Star Rail was able to adapt around thanks to formulating the game that way from the start. Genshin? Can't.
It's a huge legal fiasco for them to do things like this, and then, the government has to okay it. It's a fucking headache. Dehya is on the standard banner and weak as fuck because she literally was set up to be a one time limited release and will never get another rate up again now. And she's the biggest point that proves this. It sucks too.
I play both games, and the only argument I can agree to is that Genshin doesn't need a five star unit to do it's content. I dont own more than two five stars (one is Dehya so she doesn't count) and I clear all content fine. Skill can come into play whereas there's no skill n HSR as someone who has done everything to date. It's just stat sticks and having the right unit / comp, and hoping you've grinded enough on artifacts to have the stats. But Star Rail is made that way. Just like Genshin is made to be the player's skill over character. Sure you have to grind artifacts and weapons more, but you can make any character work in end content spiral abyss, etc. One of my fave youtubers is a Beidou one trick who solos content as her, and is nuts at it, and Beidou is TERRIBLY underwhelming in power.

Its drama video's farming people. I mean people are mad for no reason tbh. Like its two different games, so who cares. I dont enjoy honkai and im on break with genshin. Still don't get this community expecting free stuff for nothing.
I didn't spend penny on genshin waiting for yae miko farming everyday. Got enough primo to get her s4 and after Sumeru i got her s6. Content is very easy and casual enough to clear it with any team. I use dehya and still clear all content.
I honestly don't think it's as big as a problem as tectone is making it out to be. Seems kinda drama baiting tbh. While yes you do have some people trying to white night genshin it honestly isn't a lot at all. Most genshin players are happy with fontaine atm. I've seen way more ex genshin players/hsr players drama bait then i have genshin players actually be pissed at it.
Like Tectone can't clearly drama bait on twitter and be like " wow look at all these copium responses lol the genshin community is a joke " When that was his whole intention.

Okay then. Genshin consistently let's you choose from all the Liyue four stars each year, and gives away multiple four stars throughout the year. Some being some of the strongest characters in the game, like Xingqiu.

Right on spot with weapon banner Asmon! I got 30 to pity for weapons and i probably will try to get Dr. Rations weappon if he is good enough to upgrade and use. Its a win-win for Honkai Star Rail, even if they give a 5 star - and people will just check to invest into other characters, or one more. Its not a big deal.
The solution to this problem is to erase both games from existance.

Usually when games give you free stuff like this, its all because they want more people to play those games when they are declining. Meaning, genshin is still as profitable as ever and they have no reason to give people a free 5*, where most gatchas give you one for free each year at minimum.
The fact is, 99% of those "generous" gachas have powercreep and make those free characters obsolete in a year or even less.
Meanwhile Hu Tao is still the best single target dps in the game, and no character in Genshin has been directly powercreeped as of yet.
Soulless Companies don't care about popularity but the Sales, and HSR have been killing it in Sales since from launch to October they have been #1 in sales with Genshin always either 2nd or 3rd in sales with the exception of this month cause of a particular Hydro Archon.
Honkai Impact 3rd have always been giving free stuff even if it's not a popular game because of the sales and an actual caring Dev Team, Stop coping and just admit the company should give out stuff and be generous in their million dollar earned game (genshin) for their players.
