I do not understand why record companies can so much work into a box set and still don't have the records come in poly line sleeves. It makes no sense!
Your meant to swap the art cards between the red and blue sleeves to reveal different art it acts as a filter 😉
In the 1970s there was a comic called Sparky that had a character called “Invisible Dick” (stop giggling). He was drawn in red outline while the rest of the strip was drawn in black/grey, and if you held the red tray from your Christmas selection box over the comic strip in your Sparky annual, Dick would, as if by magic, become invisible.
I think those art prints are like that, but possibly not quite as good.

I bought the 2cd set. It has live concert tracks from New York, Las Vegas, Paris, London and Rio on cd 2. A booklet with pictures etc. November Rain mixed by Steven Wilson. On the vinyl on the back cover misprint "Dead Horses" not Dead Horse!

Yeah, that was the killer no-no for me, especially as the surround sound mix was done recently.
That’s a big box. Massive indeed.
All that time in the studio, all the false starts to record, and all we got was two live shows and a remix of some orchestration.
This is now about £200 off in a lot of places. Finally what its worth!
Missed opportunity vs the big Appetite For Destruction box set (when it dropped to $400). No B-sides, EPs, surround and hi-res... just 2 live albums and a blu ray of one of those shows. Ended up with the colored vinyl bundle with the 2 studio albums.
Would have been cool if they pressed on orange and blue vinyl

I've always wondered if Illusion was what gave Bruce the idea of realeasing 2 albums at the same time, Human Touch/Lucky Town which came out only a year after Illusion. Was that where he got the idea from. Or are the 2 things unconnected? I don't know the answer. I'm just curious.

I think you have to use your illusion to see where your money has gone on this thing and the book that comes with it is very disappointing and shows not a great deal of thought went into putting this package together. Personally, I think they need to shave more than a couple of hundred bucks off it.
Is the second Blu Ray (live in las vegas 1992) not included in the vinyl box set??

I’ve seen one in person, it’s huge and a lot of thought has gone into it. The blu ray is stunning and the albums sound great. But it’s at least £100 too expensive. The AFD sets dropped significantly and this doesn’t seem to be selling as well, so for me personally I’m enjoying the music from streaming (Apple has lossless) and will pick up the box set when it’s cheaper

And I thought 2 double albums was a bit much.
Guns n Roses catalogue is quite small: Only 3 full length albums of original material ("Lies" is a record of old tracks plus 4 acoustic new songs). As for "Use Your Illusion I & II" man those records are uneven (good and bad songs in there) and they are definitely overproduced. Back in 1991 they were measured as some kind of masterpieces only because Guns N Roses were at the peak of their popularity. Axl, Duff and Slash are virtually living in the past (frozen in 1993) and yet cashing out immensely thanks to nostalgia.
Looks to me to be a total waste of money. No demos or alternative versions all you get is 2 live concerts and the blu ray. And for £439? And the records not even in polylined inners? Who the hell buys this stuff? Is the CD box exactly the same content?
Lazy content wrapped in a package designers dream. It's very uneven for the price. The book is really the laziest piece of content I have ever seen, zero information, nothing about making the albums, the concerts, etc.

Yeah some content like that would’ve been great, especially given the enormity of these albums as a project and what was happening in the band at the time. I got the Super Deluxe AFD one and that included original newsletters which was a nice touch.
@@nickthelick he said this is £439, the vinyl one. The CD one is £250 unless you get it from GNR directly, then it’s 265 plus shipping 😂

@@nickthelick you can buy the new albums individually and they’re priced reasonably enough. They sound fantastic as well so I’d recommend at least getting a good stream (I prefer Apple to Spotify as it’s lossless), and November Rain with the real orchestra is great. They haven’t released the blu ray separately or even as a digital download which is really annoying and I can only assume it’s because they know people would buy it without the box set. There have been lots of 4k uploads of it though so if you can still watch it on UA-cam, do. Them at their peak in 1991 before they played stadiums, and playing a lot of Illusions songs that no longer get played - plus just the 6 of them (with Dizzy), not all the backup singers they had at the Toyko Dome shows, so you get to hear those songs in their most stripped back state. I really enjoyed that, as much as I like the Illusion albums it’s also good to hear those songs without all the production and just played in an Appetite manner.
Quite disappointment. No outtakes/demo's and other things. And i'm not even gonna discuss the price of it all.
I'm still gut laughing over here, what a load of shit...
But at all, it's just very mid release. Not a single demo or something, just base album and two live shows, not even a color LP just black
All that and there's barely a difference in sound quality
Misopportunity for sure
The entire 30 song set has maybe 5 songs that were really good, 2 that were ok and the rest were just garbage. So, in my mind, GNR only has ONE great album in their entire 30+ year career. This is probably the easiest box set to skip without it bothering me. I can appreciate the package through your video and that is plenty Use Your Illusion I'll ever need.

Style over substance. I am not a G&Rs fan thankfully.
