Some lil things about bts
1. They are seven, 3 rappers ( 2 underground rappers, 4 vocalists . All dancers ( a contemporary dancer and a street dancer)
2. They compose and write their own stuff not like most of the idols, so they talk about love, self love, mental health, society, politics, their fans, etc.
3. Their mv and albums are inspired the most of the time of books, mythology, theater, and Theories of physics and mathematics, so you may don't understand much. Like this last album is inspired by the psychological book map of the soul by jung. And the seven track called "dionysus" is a mythological god. And boy with luv song about a play called "singing in the rain " and is for the fans
4. They are that many and I think is a good number because they dance in their performances so they can breath and prepare for sing their parts ( no playback or people so tired)

These Korean "bands" are always formed through auditions. There are a lot of people who pass the audition though so they basically train for several years to make the final line-up for the group. Only the best can make this final line-up.
If you audition, you get accepted if you either can sing well, dance well, rap well or be really good-looking (you also need to have a basic rhythmic feeling and you need to fit the Korean beauty standards). Getting in a Korean group takes a lot of talent and hard work, especially if you're part of one of the bigger labels.
Honestly though when the members first joined the company they definitely all didn't fit the korean beauty standards. I think either BigHit didn't have a lot of auditions, therefore not as many options as the bigger companies, or they mostly looked for talent rather than looks, except for Jin of course. And maybe V but I don't know if he was a visual right from the start.
Not always. Some are just randomly scouted, like Jin lol. And some compete in shows to get picked to be in a group.
Well for Bighit, they wanted at first only rappers, they found RM and were impressed by his rapping so he became the first member and at first they formed a group center around him. BTS is very unique from any other group/band.They use music as a platform for self-empowerment ans speak to the problems of youth in this generation. They write songs about mental health, self love, depression, anxiety and even go far to speak about suicide. Their music videos have a lot of symbolism that holds meaning. The song "Idol" is a song about getting back at people who told them that they can't be what they are or stereotyped them. For instance, the part when RM (leader of the group) put different filters on himself at 3:20 is because once during a live stream on a korean app called "Vlive" he put filters on him and a fan commented telling him to stop using filters. People often say "There are too many members and they all look the same." The part where they duplicate themselves is a reference to that. Sometimes people say "Kpop is fake and plastic". That's why in the music video, they make inhumanly big and fake versions of themselves. Some say that "BTS is getting westernized". That's why in the video, they danced in Hanboks (traditional korean wear) and were in front of them temple and made other Korean cultural references. It's basically telling the haters that 'I don't care how you judge me, I'll just continue to be myself". BTS is partnered with Unicef for their "Love Yourself" campaign and gave a speech at the United Nations about self-love and speaking out against prejudice. They very much encourage their fans (armys) and others to love and embrace themselves. That is one reason I love them so much. They are against toxic masculinity. Most men don't talk about how much they love themselves, however, that is what bts encourages everyone to do through their music. I've liked bands before like One Direction and 5SOS, but bts is a group whose music changed my life, but importantly, it changed my mindset. They're literally my role models.

All kpop idols go through a training period. They first audition and when accepted, train for a period of time(which includes dance lessons which is why they're so good, language lessons for foreign members, vocal and rap lessons)(and some companies even train their idols to create music) once the company sees that a group of trainees have reached a certain skill level they will then debut them in a group.
BTS originally came from bighit's audition in 2010 where only RM stayed in the final lineup.
It is also possible to scout a trainee, usually based on their looks, then train them.

Yes we do understand what they are saying, there are a lot of translations of their lyrics plus the captions on all their videos.
Not all could dance at the beginning but with kpop all the people who audition for a company have to intensely train in singing, dancing, rapping for two to three years before they debut.
Bts is a great group with an incredible message that I'm sure you'll love! Maybe you can check more out
P.S another thing that is greater than bts music videos are their live performances, their stage presence is palpable.
I'd recommend anything live, from Dionysus performance to their award shows especially the performance "Who are you" at the melon music awards
To answer your questions:
- They auditioned ( 2 got scouted) to the company and trained for 2-3 yrs. Company then evaluate them and choose who will complete the group.
- not all of them can dance before they got to the company.. 2 of them are dancers since young, 2 are underground rappers, 1 college student, 1 dreamt of becoming farmer, 1 middle schooler (14yrs old)
- they literally practice 12-16 hrs just to perfect a dance.
** They lived together ever since they became trainees, used to lived in a small apartment sleeping in 1 room. They're still living together(in a most expensive apartment in Korea)

09:50 yes and no. K-pop groups go through auditions, and after passing auditions (for a particular agency) they will begin training. Training includes dancing, so there has to be a level of skill in vocals(singing or rapping), dancing, song-writing, visuals, etc (depending on agency and position auditioning for). After observing the trainees, the CEO will typically do a lineup and form a group from the trainees. For BTS, there were a few memebers (Suga for sure) who was promised that there would only be minimal dancing involved - but the dancing only got higher and higher in levels of difficulty.

I could tell you were actually genuinely interested and not just reacting to them for clout and I also really loved how much you appreciated their image, like their hair, makeup, and outfits because that overall metrosexual look isn't as widely accepted in the US (I'm assuming you're from the US based on your accents). In Fake Love where it says “Save Me” if you turn it upside down, it says “I’m fine”, which is also a track on a future album. All BTS songs have hidden meanings and images. ARMY’s watch them in slow speed, pausing and looking, pausing and looking, and figuring out things that BTS has put in their songs and videos for ARMY to figure out. ARMY, btw, is the name of their fan base and we are about 20 million strong. I can tell y’all are going to be ARMY’s if you’re not already. Also, they do NOT use CGI’s. You can look up (for example) The making of Fake Love and you’ll see how they did it. They also compose their own music, write their own lyrics, and J Hope (the lead dancer) works with a choreographer and learns the routines in like, ten minutes, then he puts his own twist on it to make it work for the rest of the guys, then he teaches them all (with the help of Jimin, a classically trainee dancer) They’ve been together (and lived together in a ONE BEDROOM apartment since 2010 and trained for three years prior to debuting. Now, they’ve shattered records, including their own, but a,so records set by the Beatles and Michael Jackson. They have the money to buy their own homes and some of them have, but they have a HUGE, six bedroom apartment that they all still share. Their record label WAS small and they had no budget in the beginning. Also, since their record label was unknown, their performances were cut from Korean shows designed to introduce new K-Pop bands. So, they took their music straight to the fans via social media and exploded. Not just in Korea or Asia, but all over the world. They’ve been on the cover of TIME magazine as next generation leaders, they’re U.N. Ambassadors and spoke at the United Nations General Assembly, they sold out the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles in ten minutes, so they added a second night and it, too, sold out in ten minutes. Nosebleed seats cost about $2000 and stage front costs about $8,000 to $10,000. Just five years ago, they held a free concert for 300 people. They gave away flyers, begging people to come. They’ve since worked with Steve Aoki, DJ Khalid, Warren G., and most recently, Halsey. I could go on and on! But y’all need to shut up and WATCH THEM AND LISTEN!

You don't understand how happy I was when they discovered the English subtitles (BY THEMSELVES!!!).
You could literally watch all of their videos, and you would probably fall even more in love with them. They’re amazing dancers and singers and performers and even write their own songs and produce them, so there’s a lot of content. MIC Drop is great, Spring Day, DNA, Not Today, Tomorrow... the list goes on and on. 😁

their music is varied, you can relate to most of it! the lyrics are meaningful as well. dancing is on point (not everyone are dancers initially, what you see are results of hours-long practice)
i personally got into them because of hiphop and dancing! and they've grown on me! they introduced me to other genres as well.
*big point for me is their personality and teamwork! these are brothers who worked their way up from the bottom, very hardworking guys.*
these guys live together (literally! as in sleeping in one room) by the way, from training days up to now. they"ve become more like brothers now!
