Long but please read: As a Canadian, I sit in utter awe and abject horror daily, watching American news. My own local news covers some of it but I try to watch different outlets both online and on the networks. It’s like a crazy reality show…I can’t look away, as much as I want to! I feel like I’m witnessing a turning point in history. What is taking place right now, I believe will inspire the same level of import in the eyes of history as Hitler’s rise to power, or maybe more appropriately, Mussolini’s.
l have no skin in the game, I can’t vote in your elections. As an outsider looking in I’d like to offer an “outside” opinion:
If you, and by you I mean, the American citizens, allow Donald Trump to get away with the plethora of crimes he has committed against you, with blatant disregard for your laws and constitution , and unbelievably allow him to run for president again, then you will have allowed him to crown you all the biggest fools on earth, and your country will be a complete joke on the world stage. I take no pleasure in saying that. I love your country. I have friends there. My heart breaks for them and the other good, honest, NORMAL citizens of the USA.
Democrats and independents need to stand up AND GROW A PAIR. Don’t let this happen. Even if that means changing the rules the same way the Republicans have continually done to you! Fight fire with fire. You have the TRUTH on your side. Every time I hear ppl say Republicans will take back the house, and Trump will get the nomination I literally cringe. What in the actual holy hell is wrong with a third of your population?!?! Stop this. NOW. Do not allow this OBVIOUS SOCIOPATH to light the match that will ignite the oncoming dumpster fire that will soon be your country if you don’t take this seriously and STOP the GOP right now. I don't have skin in the game either, just a sailboat on Lake Champlain, just north of Plattsburgh, NY. I've lived in the US. I spend months on the Lake in the summer, and have been skiing in Vermont regularly since childhood. Although not a citizen, I feel directly concerned about the social climate and political events unfolding south of the border. I try to convince myself that voter turnout is gonna be massive in November, and that the GOP is gonna be crushed. Ever since Newt Gingrich, the political discourse has devolved in such a way, that Republicans are ready to believe every atrocious lie and accusation leveled against Democrats! FOX is like a cancer on the country, and I don't know how lowlifes like Carlson, Hannity, Ingraham, Waters, Pirro and al can sleep at night??? Why would Democrats want to destroy their own country? There's no logic in that! When I listen to Rump's base, I just think of massive lead poisoning cuz I just can't figure them out! Their ignorance is so profound, it baffles me! And Rump is just a symptom, not the cause of the rise of Fascism in the US. At state level, the GOP is even more extreme! I'm an American here in the United States, and you just told the truth, and nothing but the truth, did not vote for Eric's dad (I refuse to write it's name) I had never vote before, but I did in 2016, and I voted for Hillary, I'm ashamed of our government, he needs to be locked up, that's the only way America will heal.

Told them to make pence stay strong and stop certification of trump’s loss. Waited to send national guard to stop them. Told them he loved them, and that they were special.

After reading some of the disturbing comments of some of the people here, I am more concerned than ever for our democracy. How can it be that in 2022, in a country that is supposed to be so educated, that we have so many people that refuse to see the truth, hear the truth or that know nothing about history? Though I am not a Republican, I am a person who loves my country and I applaud Liz Cheney for standing up for our republic at the cost of her position. She makes me proud and gives me hope that there are still people who are willing to put our country over their position of power.

As a UK citizen watching these proceedings I am both fascinated and horrified! I have been watching a documentary on the rise of the Natzis in Germany in 1930s. I have no dog in this fight, but the parallels with Trump and the republican party are truly frightening. I fear for the American people if the right wing fascist republicans ever come to power again. Once you let the beast out of the box, you have lost control and will lose your rights to freedom. I'm a true Moderate, and I have come to respect, even love the Speaker Pelosi. I never understood why so many "hate" her, but I realize all that hate speech and chatter relates to a woman who is not only powerful, but courage. That is a rarity. In fact, when she bucked the status quo and went to Thailand, I actually cheered for joy. I simply love that! I've been VERY impressed with this entire committee, their professionalism, all those who gave their testimony and in this last hearing I was not disappointed either. Its sad that so many people CONTINUE to believe Trumps lies and those people, most of all, should be watching this hearing but many havent. To me its the equivalent of a trial, you cant pass judgement without hearing all the evidence, thats not how how democratic system works. They've done a fantastic job here and Merrick Garland has had the entire case already laid out for him, they did all the hard work, he can now prosecute easily and we're all waiting for that now.

The work this committee has done is important to our democracy. Truth matters in this country, though there are clearly those who will hot want to hear it and will deny it, even when it is staring them in the face. It would be nice if a member clarified the repeated:"... sufficient to overturn...." I think people don't understand that the elections are sound, but never perfect. Here and there, ineligible people vote, or an odd dead person is found to have voted. That's why the "sufficient" language is always repeated. But it may feed some of the paranoia not to acknowledge the minor imperfections.

I am an older woman, and when I watch what occurred on January 6th., it makes me cry for my country. I never thought that I would see any of our citizens try to overthrow our democracy, yet that is exactly what the president at that time tried to do with the help of citizens to which he lied to about the election. He lost, but he doesn't like to lose. He never cared about our citizens nor our country and its democracy. He needs to be held accountable, or this will happen again until it actually works -and for who?

I am rewatching all hearings and as I understand it, he stopped being a president the day after the election and went back to being Mr Trump. I also recall telling a friend sometime in December that year, that he will burn down everything until the next president takes over. When I hear about the Afghanistan/Somalia plans.... I was not wrong in my assumptions.
So am I. Now that the trials are underway, it is evident that the committee hearings hard work is paying off.

To say that I am absolutely horrified by what I see going on in my country is an understatement. Democracy and the America I knew and loved growing up is all but dead. I am afraid, sad, angry, frustrated and mournful for what I see in my country. I am no longer proud of my country and am embarrased to be American. My oldest met and married and lovely girl from Canada and moved there permantly in 2018. My husband and I have talked about seeking refuge in Canada if the worst possible outcome does come to pass.
If you have to move there, do it; cause if Eric's dad wins the election again, the United States of America is no more, wish I could go with you.
