I've always said the 2000's had the best mix of modern technology with old school mindset. We had the technology we have today but we had 80's and 90's culture.
True. It was when smartphones came out that changed everything. Right at the end of 2009 the combo of Facebook take over and smartphones changed society.

@@jfh.8064 yep. It's funny cause I also tell people that 2010-2012 was that transition era into what we know today. Everyone found what worked and didn't work and just went with that.
@@JDBass36 yeah man it was definitely the best of that mix. We really had house phones, wifi (older version but still wifi), social media, no streaming services and we used CD's all in the same era. That don't even sound like that goes together 😂😂 but yet we had it all.
And it was so much easier to get pirated software, college was much easier with all the free programs I would get. 😊

So thankful to have been born in 1990 so I was a kid in the 90s and a teen in the 2000s. It was the perfect time to grow up. Watching 90s cartoons as a kid, playing classic video games as they came out, Pokémon when I was 8 years old, pre teen in early 2000s, first home computer at 10, MySpace in high school, not having a smart phone until I was around 20. Man it was awesome.
Born in the 90s meant to be a balanced life through our childhood and teenage years. When we were children we witnessed to live in a time with best tv shows, cartoons, animes. As teenagers we had increase of internet but actual communicative social media, a veriety of good music and games. Kids who are growing up in the 20s are growing ip with mumble rap, repetitive music, half baked video games, tik tok dictating the life style. Soon they will spend their free time in Virtual Reality and have to spend their time at home because robots are taking over business.

Got an iPod for Christmas 2005, got a better one in 2011, and still use it pretty much every day still. Having a separate device for your music is awesome. I have over 10,000 songs on mine and adding more regularly. The last model of the iPod Classic (the one right before the iPod Touch) is the best one.
Youre a dying breed my friend. I prefer spotify for my music because downloading takes too much time but nostalgia is also nice.
@@TheD33dz I totally understand using Spotify instead, I see the positives of both. I like having a separate device, it doesn’t drain the battery on my phone and the iPod battery lasts a long time. It’s smaller and more durable, so it’s nicer to take walking/exercising etc Downloading music isn’t too bad, I can download an album and add it to iTunes in about 5 minutes.

Now people are listening to Lil Nas X, Billie Eillish, and Everyone is dressed like they are depressed or something. Man I miss 2012 😢

I was born in '95. This year, I bought an iPod Shuffle to take on walks since I like how portable it is and I was sick of looking at my phone screen. I also bought some blank CDs to download music onto to listen on the radio while cleaning. This list is making me feel pretty old fashioned...

No, I'm exactly like you. I also like to keep my smarphone and audio device seperate. It just makes sense to me. Most of the memory on my old one is gone, but it's fine for a couple of hours of podcasts for me now. Actually, about a day.

I was 4 years old in october of 2010 and to me i love the 2010s i have made so many memories in the 2010s the best decade of my life i would probably like the 2000s but i was way too young to remember it. Its only january and 2022 already kinda blows but who knows this could be another good year for me. 2021 honestly was one of the best years of my life
This made me feel old... I'm one of them who went from recording music on tape from radio to burning cd's (also for friends) to now having every song available with the push of a button... Still, making a playlist on, say USB for in the car, still feels satisfying.

When i turned 15 in october 2021 i got a turntable that runs vinyl cd and cassette so since then i collect vinyl for all of the older bands i listen to like pantera metallica acdc and queen then i collect cd for my newer stuff like taylor swift ed sheeran the weeknd p!nk adele maroon 5 i like having something physically i still use spotify for like when im at school
Napster/Lime Wire ultimately change the music industry. It dragged record companies and artists into the 21st century kicking and screaming 😱 😆
You can thank Metallica for Napster being killed off, mainly due to Lars Ulrich being a greedy piece of shit.
I remember my first MP3 Player was a little, pink, battery powered one from Toys R Us. And I felt like the coolest kid on the block! Yes, it needed a battery to work, my mom had to download songs from the computer onto it, but man I remember loving that thing! Those were the days! ❤

In my country, when I was in high school, there were only two classmates (a boy and a girl) with ipods (they were rich) My friend let me borrowed his ipod for 5 minutes (and he only brought it during foundation day).

Yeah I was born in 97. I can’t relate too much to the ‘burning cds’ and ‘walk man’s’ but the 2000s stood out as the time for wacky movies and good shows for me. Tropic Thunder being a staple as well as the hype for iron man and transformers 1 first coming out in 2007 was really big in 6th grade. I actually had a VCR player in my house growing up and I would record Ben 10 episodes on Sunday mornings on a bunch of blank VCR tapes. Good times back then!

Some cars still include CD players. Burning CDs is a good skill to have in such cases. I still do it for my dad, so he can play music when he goes fishing in the mountains.
Never before in any era do I recall so many markets spit balling everything. BTW, Bionicle is the best Lego series (if not best toy line) to ever come out from the 2000s!

I feel like 1998 to 2005 is the best period in human history. I remember rushing from school to home in time to turn on my favorite shows on local TV, playing primitive online games on local internet cafe and enjoying on lan matches with my mates. It was a great time.

Some of these bring back memories. I have a very large iTunes collection, but still burn CDs occasionally for friends and family. I also used to download music from LimeWire and have the most recent iPod Classic at 160gb, which was discontinued a few weeks after I bought it; the price cost $60.

Actually my sister bought dance dance Revolution quite recently for our Wii so I wouldn't say we aren't doing that anymore she most certainly uses it for her exercise and I can play whenever I feel like.
It's amusing for me to see Millenials talk about the late nineties and 2000s, missing those times as retro. They sound exactly as my friends and I when we talk about the late 70's to late 80s. Different gadgets, different memories, but all bring back feelings of nostalgia. I guess the saying that "The more things change, the more they stay the same," has merit.

What this video also shows is how trends have globalized in the recent years. Living in Europe, renting movies from Netflix never was a thing, I don‘t know a single person that had a Motorola Razr, never heard of aim, etc. Now everyone uses the same services, apps, gadgets, watches the same movies, etc.
So true. And nowadays internet is not the same at all. In the 00s, it was a tool to share music, movies and lots of information being anonymous.
Currently, it's a tool to control us all, since everything we do with our phones is tracked down and our private details sold to the Big Data companies. Google, Facebook, Twitter and all those companies can make a very accurate profile of ourselves with the information we naively provide.
I miss this decade so much, as Toploader would say, I had the time of my life during these times, and I wish they could come back
Minesweeper was retro already in the 2000s. It was a Windows 3.1 game and I first played it in the early 90s.
When my old iPod classic from high school finally died, I decided to buy a replacement one. When the guy asked me which type of iPod I wanted, I told him I'd love to get another classic. He just looked at me really confused and was like "uh, they don't make those anymore." That was my first "man I feel old" moment.
I still have mine but music only comes out of one headphone cause the jack is well jacked. I went to the apple store to see if I could get it fixed and the guy told me it was considered retro tech?! I was like I'm not old enough to own retro tech sir I baught this in 2008! Retro. My goodness.
This is off topic but im a freshman in high school now right and back in december 2021 there was an announcement about the gender neutral bathroom in my school being closed and im like wtf and my teachers are talking about how asking pronouns are a form of respect and the other day i was talking to my dad about all of that and saying what kind of era am i living in?
I’m an early 80’s baby, 90’s latch key kid and teen, bookworm, homebody. I used 80’s & 90’s tv and music as white noise or background sounds for homework, and had celebrity posters on my bedroom walls.
I have a life but I love celebrities. They and their work got me through a lot. I still have my collection with thousands of cds and dvds. I have a collection of old and new apple products, iPhones, nanos, laptops and desktops loaded with all of my music and movies. I have music and movies that are not longer being sold or streamed and I can add and subtract whatever I want.
Please do what we miss about old consoles before ps3 era that involved online features.
- offline 2-4 multiplayer (mostly nintendo)
- many many movie and TV licensed video games
- rip off unofficial games
- games came completed. No patches later on to fix or add content
- no dlc, season passes, or battle passes

Burning CDs was kickass. Just listening to all 10 of your favorite songs over and over and over and over and over until you burned a new one. The best was when you could get like 15 songs on 1 CD before MP3 CDs came out.
Omg so many of these brought back memories. I downloaded limewire myself and whenever I got a mislabeled song, I was like, dang it, time wasted. Had so many mixed cds. Loved my razr phone until I went to blackberry and then iPhone. And DDR, I dropped 60 pounds using that. I loved it. Me and a friend would head to the mall, when that was still done, and stayed on it for a few hours. We got so good at it that we would have people watch us so the owner of the arcade gave us free credits bc of the attention we brought in
Ya i had a buddy from North Korea that was a BOSS at DDR... I never bothered with it myself, but this dude could move his legs quicker than most wide recievers probably can lol
Flash videos. It was so much fun creating videos in macro media Flash and watching other users’ videos. This should have been on the list or even an honorable mention.

Kids these days will never know the value of patience because they have everything they need in the palm of their hand. We had one device for music(ipod or walkman), one for watching movies(TV, DVD and VHS), one for going online(a dial-up computer the whole family had to share) and one for making calls and texting(a flip phone that we didn't get until our balls properly dropped). We're making everything way too convenient for the next generation. It's no wonder they come across as entitled, triggered little pricks. Us 90s-2000s kids had it just right at the perfect time until Steve Jobs had to ruin everything. Sometimes progress is the enemy. And I think we can all agree that AIM was lightyears better at communicating with friends than today's social media platforms. No toxicity, no narratives, no fake news, no fighting with strangers, no flexing about your fake life, just chit chatting. So much simpler.
P.S.: I still have my IPOD classic and Blockbuster was the best place ever!

Damn how time has flown. Still have the first iPod, the colored one, and the full screen, that work to this day. My Razr, yes still works, and can make calls, buts its tricky to do it. Along with the water resistant Walkman, both cassette and CD, with a tower of cd's with hundreds of MP3 files downloaded of Napster (thanks Metallica) and Limewire. I miss MuchTV, VH1, and old school MTV. I stll remember my AIM sn and password, I can still make it to work but just talk to a handful of people. Certain entities use it. So happy to have live through the 90's and 2000's. Such simpler times with some pretty cool shit. Mostly good memories, and bad. Nostalgia at it's best. Fuck yeah.

Watching G4 on TV, play locally on a handheld through a cord, play with gym scooters, buy things from Circuit City, hiding PlayBoy magazines in your room…. The list goes on….

And Watch Mojo shows about as much of their top 10 picks as TRL did the actual music videos. Seriously, TRL would show a 4 minute video for about 12 seconds.
Yea, I remember me, my older sister and friends coming home from school and watching a Eminem music video and endless celebrity guests. R.I.P MTV and music channels.
Two of these things I still do to this day, sort of. I still burn CDs and DVDs on occasion and I still own a Motorola (though I canceled my plan on it years ago because I would on average make five calls no more than 30 seconds long on it in a year because I've always hating talking on the phone, even on landlines.)
Every single other of the things on this list make me feel even older (or perhaps just hardcore introverted) because when they were new...I had no interest in them. Never had an Ipod (or even a Walkman, I can't stand headphones and earbuds), never used Limewire (had no internet until I was in highschool), never ordered anything through the mail (I prefer to hold the thing I'm going to buy in my hand before I buy it), aside from always wearing exclusively black I never "scened" (hardcore introvert, I tried my hardest to disappear into the shadows like Batman in highscool so I'd never have to talk to anyone ever), I knew from the very start the "no carbs diet" was a sham, never liked MTV or reality shows (cartoons and anime were my jam), I played Minesweeper once and immediately rage-quit because as even my current Let's Plays of Gamecube and Nintendo DS ROMs demonstrate...I have a shorter temper with games than the AVGN, And because of the aforementioned introvert-thing, I avoided ALL forms of instant messaging like the plague we've been stuck indoors over for the past two years.
Oh and yeah these past two years may have been the least stressful of my entire life because now I have a valid reason to never be within six feet of any other living thing ever.
I miss the late 2000’s so much sometimes. I was in charge of burning CD’s in my group whenever we went out to listen in the car. So many great road trips with some great tunes courtesy me and my cd/DVD burner.
Never used Limewire, but Bearshare. Wonder if any of you remember that one.
And I was always excited to see the DVD menu as much as the movie itself.

I was born in 2006 and didnt really get to experience the 2000s but whenever i hear beautiful girls by sean kingston it takes me back and is the most 2000s song ever i love it and whenever i hear just give me a reason by p!nk it takes me back to 2013 when i was 6 then turned 7

The college my sister teaches at in New York had some engineering students that needed some cash. She had them build a Dance Dance Revolution arcade quality dance stage for my nephew last year.. It looks like the real arcade machine dance stage.
I was 8 in 2000, it was a simple yet crazy time altogether. No one was on their phones 24/7, book fairs was my school’s craze, and I received my first film camera.

I don't own an iPod, but I typically burn a CD each year with my top 20 favorite songs of the year on it. It typically ends up being 75-79 minutes long, so it's perfect that CDs can hold 80 minutes of music.

Netflix hasn't decreased their library. I back fill the classics that aren't available thru streaming. 13 bucks for 16 movies a month! AND the iPod Classic, 160G of space! There still isn't anything on the market like it. A plus is the sounds are richer than flash based music on phones. Have my entire CD library and songs I purchased, and playlists by genre and decades. I still use mine almost daily, connects to the cars and I have 2 Bose docking stations no subscription fees or commercials!
Minesweeper is still played on mobile phones, you could’ve put the entire AOL service, not just AIM and chat rooms, but the games with your friends! Also T Mobile Sidekick was popular before the iPhone killed that device!

@@TerraCrisis there were all those feature phones in the mid 2000s that were really unique, the Boost Mobile phones had push to talk, I remember being mind blown by the RAZR, Sidekick, and even Nokia had a phone with video recording and playback!

It’s really amazing how we were the last generation to be able to have at least a little bit of experience with what it was like in the 80s and 90s before the technology we’ve used evolved, some for the better, some for worse.
I still have my LimeWire collection in my iPod Nano 2nd gen I use daily. And I embrace becoming a scene kid once again at age 28 🤣

I still play minesweeper every now and then, its a nice simple brain teaser game if you understand how to play it.
I miss my Handspring Visor pda...I freaking loved that thing even though I had zero real use for it.
Having a well built and mobile music library in your pocket was impressive back in the day
Not as good as the 90s but MUCH better than the 💩ty times we're going through.

Damn... This just made me feel old as hell!! 😂 But this was an awesome time! A mix between analog and digital in a sense. Limewire was open all day everyday on my Dell laptop! I was making cds all the time! then I also got a DVD burner! Talk about a game changer lol! TRL loved it! Ipod loved it! Oh and I'd be on my Netflix and gamefly que adjusting to make sure I got the new stuff I wanted asap! Now it's just all too easy lol

I still use Netflix DVD. Still have the best overall selection, especially from other services (HBO, Showtime, etc). I still use my iPod in my house as my music source connected to speakers. I still have minesweeper on this iPad that I’m using.
The Atkins diet is the Ketogenic diet and now we just call it keto because it's trendier🙄. It was supposed to be for epileptic patients who need to control seizures.
I was going to say they still have Atkins frozen dinners. Great if you’re on Keto, which is advised for certain medical conditions.

During my high school and college times, I realized not too many ppl knew how to play minesweeper. I was obsessed on setting new record on each library computer wherever I go including public libraries. I'm pretty sure they all have been replaced with new computer by now even before ppl even tried looking at its highscore

I still use Netflix DVDs. It’s the only way to rent older movies. The selection is great and streaming is super limited.

My gosh, I REMEMBER the Netflix DVDs WAY BEFORE they had their own movies and series. And Disney Plus didn’t exist back then, which I’m SO thankful that it does now, because Netflix and Disney had a contract together up until Disney Plus launched in 2019. I also remember iPods, although my sister and I both had iPod minis, I remember going to my Mom and buying songs that I wanted on my iPod. Most of the songs that I downloaded were songs from movies and TV shows. Golly man, I MISS the 2000s SO much.

I was born in ‘93 and I got my first iPod in 2004 for Christmas and then an iPod touch in 2009 (which I still kind of use to this day).
I still have my iPod Classic (6th Gen) that I had back in high school over ten years ago, and refuse to waste space on my phone for some streaming service that'll just drain my phone battery.
We had a server at work that was designated for music. Ah, those were the days. The iPod Absolutely changed how we listened to music. It was amazing to have so much music in one place.
