Thank you so much for your videos with pieces from book 3. You are helping my son a lot, and you have teached me to play the violin! From a greatful swedish 46-years old "suzukimum".
I'm learning this for my Mpa solo and this is really helpful! I could and did play it on the piano but it wouldn't sound the same as on the violin. Especially since I didn't fully understand how the minor part was suppose to sound like. Now i do! Thx! :)
Whistler's pretty good, but there's also a book called "Above the First Position" that is very good, particularly if you aren't working regularly with a teacher. Less confusing, and helps with ear development. If you go to an online music store and enter "violin 3rd position" in the search engine, you may find lots of ideas.
It is so nice to see more videos from you. You are getting closer to where I hit the wall -Book4-. When I got to the Vivaldi concerto in A minor I got stuck, and I can't seem to get a decent performance for the pieces, always got some additional shrieks out of the violin when I attempted full speed, Ha! I tried some other pieces like La Folia and I'm actually good at it. Now, what pieces could I play that are not too daunting and will not go above 3rd possition? I mean, other than Suzuki's...
I don't teach positions for book 3 - I think book 3 and 4 are better spent mastering basic skills and bowing techniques so that they don't fall apart once positions are introduced. Each teacher has their own opinion, of course, and each student is unique.
I'm actually working on that this week! A few other people have asked for that too, - over the years! Hopefully in the next week. Have to solve some video recording issues.
I appreciate your videos. But I'd like to ask you about the clearance between the fingerboard a strings. How many mm is it for each string? Take care :)
I don't know - my violin is maintained by a luthier, so it's not something I've ever had to look into. I recommend showing your violin to someone knowledgeable. This article might be helpful: stringsmagazine.com/proper-string-height-maximizes-your-instruments-sound/

Slow play-through of the new minor section at 1:10, then the whole piece play-through at a regular speed starts at 3:20.
