I followed this video to sort out my 435 model and it helped me greatly. The only tip I would give people and it is slightly more work to start with, but makes things easier when removing/ re-installing the carb and that is to remove the throttle & grab handle assembly. Disconnect the throttle cable in the handle first and it makes access a lot easier and everything comes away without having to wiggle the carb /air filter housing / choke lever out.
your video was a big help to me. I was given 436 McCulloch chainsaw, to be honest i will just replace the carburetor without fiddling. Ive taken the serial number down. Could say that it is easier to undo the cable throttle from the handle bar instead of by the carburetor. Thanks for your assistance. A big help.
Life saver video, thanks a lot!
Well done Mr Luke. Although either of those pump gaskets would work, I believe that woven gasket is used on larger CC equipment. Those Mac saws have a dedicated following despite being disliked by so many folks here.
Hi Stella thanks for the info 👍 I actually like the saws even though they are a fiddle to work on, In general chainsaws have a more hidden carb meaning they aren’t as easy to work on as say a hedge trimmer or strimmer. It’s a challenge which I enjoy and it’s a nice sorted saw now. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
well done Luke good information and you did make the right choice using the black gasket as the gold coloured one had extra holes in
Hi Nev I never notice the gasket was different I’ll look back and check that. I usual go like for like a d all came out good. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
@@menditman2004 Luke my eyes was playing jokes on me i think it's the same just watched again just a shadow making it look it had a extra hole and that's me sorber 👓👓
@@tinkeringtaylor3053 Hi Nev after replying I thought about it and was sure they were the same, but I hadn’t checked so thanks for letting me know 🙂👍
Nice one Luke it run fine once you tuned the carb. Great vid
Hi yes it didn’t need much of a tune but that idle adjustment made all the difference, thanks for watching 🙂👍
Thanks so much for posting I have a few chainsaws but I was using my Mac2618cav when it stopped, tried to restart it and noticed the fuel lines have all split. I can now follow your video and replace them making it a lot easier! 👍🏻
Yo tengo un modelo parecido, pero me ha servido mucho, te felicito por el buen trabajo.
well done luke
Thank you and thanks for watching 🙂👍
Job well done mate runs good for a old saw
Hi Henry I believe it’s a 2004 model so it is in nice condition for a 17 year old saw. I’ve had a few of these but it’s the best one I’ve had, thanks for watching 🙂👍
Then saws are pigs to work on, nice one luke it sounds sweet 👍
Hi yes they just have so many bits in a very small space, such a fiddle but it’s sorted now. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Completely agree with hagree ! U don’t like them….. good work 👍🏻🔧
@@DicksSmallEngines They are a bit of a challenge but I rate the saw and enjoy the challenge, I had worked on them before but forget as it’s been a while. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
I like to thank for your video,I have a M3816 model similar motor,differently needed to see video,was a great help,thank u
Good job Luke.
El video esta muy vien esplicado measervido para de mucho un saludo
Good video keep up the good video
Thanks Lee and thanks for watching 🙂👍
They are fidly but get easier the more you do,as a homeowner saw brilliant, and under rated, with proper serving and use, better than other brands, older partner and mc,Culloch are part of Husqvana
Hi Martin, I did one a few years back but I forgot what they were like to work on, I think I heard in general mcculloch stuff is a pain to work on, I do have a vintage McCulloch saw and that was even a pain to work on. But I love the challenge and your right they are a capable saw I like them, Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Nice video Luke, appreciate ya bud.
Hi John I’m glad you liked it, thanks for watching 🙂👍
Hi Luke, most of these Poulan saws are used by a homeowners for a job or 2 and then won't start and dumped🤣
I like them for what they are but are fiddly to work on👍
Hi I like them they are a decent saw for what they are, in a way I enjoy working on them as they are More of a challenging than most, not really difficult just a fiddle ideally you need tiny hands 😂 Thanks for watching 🙂👍
That does look a bit tricky to work on. Looks like it’s done very little in its life, behind the exhaust was very clean. None of my saws have ever been like that except when new.
Hi Al, yes I think this saw has had an easy life, well worth saving, a bit of a fiddle to fix but I won 😂 Thanks for watching 🙂👍
The pumping diaphragm, colour & material denotes resistance to Ethanol in fuel. Least to best, black, blue, tan.
The metering diaphragm button height sometimes varies in kit from original, so lever needs tweeked accordingly.
Walbro, have developed a new "spiral ", metering diaphragm kit that is supposed to last the life of the machine, using fuel with up to 85 % ethanol content. Pricey, compared to regular repair kit.
As we say here in Maine its a keepah ! Varooooom ! 🏁
Hi Bill I am tempted to keep it, but I have 3 saws already, so it may have to go we will see, thanks for watching 🙂👍
Hi luke
Great video to watch.
I've just picked up the exact saw as a non runner. Where did you get the repair kits and the part numbers if you can remember. Keep up the good work I enjoy watching them.
Many thanks
John 🇬🇧
Nice fix looked painful at times lol good viewing.
Hi I think it was frustration 😂 but I won the battle and it ran well, well worth saving. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
@@menditman2004 great stuff I'd be same IV got a couple of thing need fixing just can't seem to get in to them yet lol
Well done.
Thank you and thanks for watching 🙂👍
cant you clear crap off the saw first would make life easier
I actually thought the saw was pretty clean, a lot cleaner than most I work on.
that is some poor design choices
I agree I do t think they could have made it much more awkward to work on if they tried, not the easiest saw I’ve worked on, thanks for watching 🙂👍
Just take the handle off, so you can then remove that pesky air filter housing that is always in the road.. ITs only 3 screws.
