Wow, this video is almost 11 years old now (at the time of my comment). I have this Omega PO 42 mm and I am still loving it. It is such a tough and durable watch. It has also been very accurate. For those people looking to purchase a dive watch but are having a hard time getting into the Rolex club, give Omega a look. I promise you won't be disappointed.
I just bought one and I'm wearing it now! I wanted something that was beautiful to look at, something that I could wear daily. Unbeknownst to you, but your comment meant so much to me! Initially, I felt like I should baby it, and only wear it for special occasions. You inspired me to wear mine every day too!
2:22 "If this is your only watch, you're a happy guy" The Planet Ocean cal. 8500 is my only watch, and I AM a happy guy. I had to have watched this video a thousand times before I made the purchase; you're an inspiration to watch enthusiasts, Ariel!
. I am a PO owner as well. Your review was very nice and will be easy for novice and expert watch lovers. You have a very pleasent way of describing the virtues of the PO. Great job.
@BenMoby If you like a hefty watch then go with steel. This is anything but a light watch on a bracelet - but people like me don't mind that. It is true that steel is going to be more scratch resistant than titanium in most instances.
If the hour hand has to be rotated for the date to change, that could eliminate the possibility of causing harm to the movement if set outside the 9pm-4am parameters.
@xilpa Good question. I would say that it is not too light. It feels hefty enough, but is certainly lighter than the steel. The metal all fits together nicely and I don't think you'll be disappointed with how it feels. Note that while the finish is very similar, titanium is a bit darker than steel in color.
I got this exact same watch about a month ago. PO 8500 with silver indexes and as a 45,5mm model. It really is an amazing watch and thank you for your input on it. It was very informative when I was deciding between watches. I watched this video a few times, so gj and thanks. :)
Have owned 45.5 for nine years and still enjoy. Very legible from a distance, important as I age. It is a good understated watch which sometimes is a bonus. I am fortunate to own various pieces. From manufacturers like Baume Mercier, Corum Admirals cup, Concord etc. They all have run to the same level of reliability. So to close its not a trendy piece. And that makes it a good long term purchase.
I've been following your videos for a little while now and i have not seen you this excited before haha. You are obviously very fond of these watches, and rightly so they do look amazing. i'm jealous you have met the Omega CEO more than once, he seems knowledgeable and does not rush the interviews which is nice. Good job .
Indeed. The titanium version costs about $2000 more. Before I bought it I was sort of wishing they had the black one in titanium, but after wearing it for a couple of days I just really liked the blue color. It's kind of metallic blue and changes shades with the day light and viewing angle... and the best thing, the colors on the liquidmetal bezel exactly matches the rest of the clock.
Thanks for the feedback Ariel. I was able to compare the new vs old PO at a local jeweler. I don't think there is any question that the new model is a higher quality piece. The new model has a bit more weight to it (which i like in a diver). The subtle changes create a very different look on the wrist which i much prefer over the old. I ordered the black/steel model and I should have it soon! Thanks again for the great channel!
Having watched your review many many times i decided to take the plunge. Fantastic watch couldnt be happier with it. Thanks for the review mate, i got my holy grail!!
Newer is usually better - not all the time tough. The new PO's have great movements and quality which is as good as it gets so far. Though you need to compare the exact two models you are looking at personally.
This is a review I have being really looking forward to. Great review. Only thing you forgot to mention was the blue liquid metal planet ocean case and bracelet (when equipped) is made of titanium.
Oh yeah and the Helium Escape Valve at the 10 o'clock position actually does say He, which is the scientific meaning for Helium and not H2. Keep up your amazing reviews. I enjoy them very much :)
Love the blue band. I've never seen a band like that before. Usually I always go metal, but if I had to choose between the two that blue is pretty cool looking.
Absolutely. I agree 100% with you. I honestly would never wear one in public. I see it as a offence to the Horologists around the world. Mainly for me, i just wanted to see up to what level of detail these replicasters can produce their watches. I am going to vegas not long from now, and i want to see what they say about these replicas and how hard/easy it is for them to spot. Thanks for commenting! And i do plan on buying a Panerai Pam 111
Yes I would, I heard that Omega replicas are usually well worth what you pay (I'm guessing their fairly cheap compared to the real version) I considered getting one myself but I never got around to it
Did you see the thread on this topic elsewhere? Basically I didn't shave arms and people complained that I was too hairy. Then I did trim hair and other people complained. I can't win! lol.
One small detail that I have not seen mentioned by watch reviewers is the sapphire glass on the back of these new watches. Yes, it's very nice looking and all, but actually makes the watch less comfortable to wear. Don't you agree? The glass makes it stick to your skin and gives of a rubbery feel.
7k-10k is indeed crazy for something with an eta based movement. Only pay that amount that's with an inhouse movement such as rolex. But maybe just maybe the Ploprof the only model in the omega range that's worth paying that much.
Just can't decide between the seamster planet ocean, JLC memovox, JLC master sometime... I love JLC's but they've obviously very different style from the Omega... Omega is a big brand and feels almost too commercial/ mainstream... But the Planet ocean just looks SO nice! A nice, sturdy, basic diver's watch. Can't help loving them!
The new liquid metal is not LE, there was a liquid metal in black, released several years ago and there were 1,948 produced in honor of the year of the seamasters introduction. I have one and they are beautiful watches
I liked your video, you had many interesting points, but it all comes down to a couple factors, 1st - trying on the watch to see if it suits you and your wrist (to include weight, as the Ti version is significantly lighter) and 2nd - the cost of the watch itself. Now we all can find an authorized retailer and pay the MFSR on the Omega but, why?.....what I wish to know is what is a good price (i.e. wholesale) that we can expect to pay for either of these models?
I just watched this video again as I have a new found love of Planet Ocean's. Good review of course, but more importantly, funny as hell. I especially always laugh when you talk about the He valve :-)
Hi Ariel, you have forgotten to mention that the Liquidmetal model has a Titanium Case and Buckle and is it a Limited Edition? If so, how many have been made? No video or photo can do this watch any justice. Seeing it in person and actually wearing it on my wrist is what has made me fall in love with it. I might just drop the Cartier Calibre De Cartier for this. What do you think?
Thanks for this vid review Ariel... was a great watch (in the viewing sense!). I just bought a 45.5 8500calibre PO (black with orange numerals) - "ummed & arred" about my decision for a while (should I have gotten the 42, is this the right colour combo, should I have spent less & got the 2500calibre etc...) - but I'm gradually more and more liking this watch; and your vid highlights some of the read headline points! My favourite bit "does this one say liquidmetal? NO!" lol
Hello, any opinions on the older version of the planet ocean with the black bezel? I'm going to get that in a few days. It would be good to get a head up about any positives or negative. Thanks
Thanks for the review. I was at a boutique and was looking at the two; and I think for the extra 2k, very light feel, and the blue color, the liquidmetal wasn't worth it. Plus black is boss with anything you wear! Do you have a review for the black steel chronograph? I'm deciding between the regular black steel and black chrono. I saw the chrono and it was really thick compared to the non-chrono, that was the only thing I thought was bad about it.
Im close to buying the planet ocean 8500. But im really curious about the next versions of the planet oceans. If planet ocean came 2005 and calibre 8500 came 2011. Next version will maybe come 2017?
I was falling madly in love with this watch as the clip went on until it reached the point when you talked price!! You had that kinda high pitched voice that gave off a vibe that this is a great watch for the money, and there's no point in forking out a tonne of cash on a watch. So it was a major let down when you said 7-10K.
Yeah, it's too much for a watch. Unless you are well aware that you're paying too much, but want it anyway... Most people want it to impress other people, but what price do you put on impressing other people? Is it really worth that much? Not for me!
***** What's foolish is buying a $4000 grey market watch with no warranty. What happens if something goes wrong? You're going to pay full price to get it fixed. Not cheap.
***** Just because you buy something online doesn't mean you have no warranty. I was just on one very reputable site that I've used before and they are offering their PO watches with five year warranty for $4300, and for a small up charge you can have an even longer warranty. Remember that authorized dealerships, jewelry stores, and boutiques try and push this nonsense about paying full price plus sales tax as part of the mystique, but realistically, they just like their profit margins. As Snake stated, you can pick this watch up around $4K online, from a reputable online retailer. Pay full price at a dealer along with sales tax and you could easily be knocking on the door of $7K with tax, and that's not even for the more expensive Titanium model. There would have to be a heck of a lot go wrong with your watch that $3,000 couldn't fix it.
If I thought there was a significant likelihood of an Omega watch failing within a couple of years of purchase, I wouldn't want to buy it in the first place--certainly not at full price. I bought my limited edition Seamaster Diver 300m on an Internet site at a discount price and am perfectly happy with it.
@jaba911 it's obvious you're not a true watch enthusiast. I did not get ripped off. It does have a genuine Swiss 2836 ETA movement which cost about $300 just for the movement alone! True sapphire crystal with double AR coating and waterproof.
I was wondering why you bought the Sub? I am debating between the PO and the new Rolex Explorer 42mm b/c I like bigger watches. Why do you think the Sub is a far better all round watch?
I'm about to buy one, but I have a question for you. Is the bezel insert in this video black? You mention that it also comes in grey. Is this one in the video not grey? Thanks....
I owned one of these and I love omega range, however, I am a big guy, but this watch is way to bulky, it stands off your wrist by some distance and that will make it easy to catch and knock it, I swapped mine for a Rolex Submariner, far better all round watch. I would also say the 2500C-D cal Planet Ocean is a better looking watch, still a great watch!
@MRFEDORGEO Interesting, didn't knew that, good to know. Do you maybe know if that is the case also with Omega or Breitling or even with a brand like Vacheron Constantin, where prices are 500.000 $ or higher?
On the omega website I can't find a black bezel version (only see gray) of the stainless steel one you have in the 2011 models. Is that a limited edition one or something?
Do you find your bezel misalign? I check your site for a close pic and it's slightly misalign. Do a lume test and you will see the lume dot on the bezel is not align with the 12 o'clock marker.
Some people keep bringing it back to Rolex whenever a good review of an Omega comes out. But being factual, tests prove the 8500 caliber is more performant than Rolex movement of the Submariner. Besides, the Sub and Seadweller only comes in 40mm. Although I have a 16 cm wrist, it looks ridiculous and even fitted the seller's wrist...oh and it was a lady.
@AMRonin I agree that it is priced a bit too high, I think 5k would be appropriate. However, please don't compare a TAG aquaracer to this fine piece, that is comparing apples to oranges.

@idontnowsomething Models with the caliber 8500 and 9300 movements made by Omega have sapphire crystal exhibition casebacks.

@TheMystro1971 My pleasure. Thanks!
PO looks so gorgeous in steel ... I bought a SubC recently but whenever I see the 8500 PO, I'd wish I've bought the PO before I bought the Submariner!
@AMRonin The Aquaracer is a solid model for sure but the detailing and movement in the Omega are better. They just aren't competitors anymore exactly.
This is a review I have being really looking forward to. Great review. Only thing you forgot to mention was the blue liquid metal planet ocean case and bracelet (when equipped) is made of titanium.
@xilpa Will do! I have a total of 237 videos now and more to keep coming.
@amartolosgr Glad you like it.
This watch in Orange, looks amazing.
FYI. the non liquid metal version bezel is actually metal pressed into the ceramic. thry are not printed on
Thanks Oliver.
Oh yeah and the Helium Escape Valve at the 10 o'clock position actually does say He, which is the scientific meaning for Helium and not H2. Keep up your amazing reviews. I enjoy them very much :)
My sea master is 13 years old, worn 24/7 keeps perfect time, the band did fall apart after 12 years, 150 + dives on it. mine is a ETA automatic crono.
Love the blue band. I've never seen a band like that before. Usually I always go metal, but if I had to choose between the two that blue is pretty cool looking.

Yes I would, I heard that Omega replicas are usually well worth what you pay (I'm guessing their fairly cheap compared to the real version) I considered getting one myself but I never got around to it
Dude you sound just like Edward norton.great review anyhow.one day ill own one
Probably a Seamaster PO personally.
This is a fabulous watch I wish I could afford it. Ariel makes this watch sound great.
I have the black one and I love it. The safire glass is so clear that you don't know it's there.
Good deal is all a state of mind. Right? I happy with my $400 omega rep and you're happy with your $7000 omega gen. Enjoy to the max!
Gorgeous watch.

I have the honor to be the first in Greece who has this watch(45,5 mm-orange bezel).OMEGA all the way.

@anifz16 Right right.
Honestly never had an issue like that. Perhaps I'd need to wear it in a more hot and humid environment.
very good is a big understatement
@aBlogtoRead I tried the Titanium but it felt too light so I got the Stainless Steel. Its also more scratch proof.
The new liquid metal is not LE, there was a liquid metal in black, released several years ago and there were 1,948 produced in honor of the year of the seamasters introduction. I have one and they are beautiful watches
well thank you!
I forgot to add one thing. the interior design and make are pretty cheap for Omega Replicas. but they look good on the outside

i'm dreaming about owning one and you have two! must be the good life...
I can reccomend a good watch that looks very similar, look up the Orient Ray Black. It's very affordable usually under $250
@anifz16
No it's He, the second letter in an element is a small one.
btw, Great review!
Are these one of your favs all-time?
I just watched this video again as I have a new found love of Planet Ocean's. Good review of course, but more importantly, funny as hell. I especially always laugh when you talk about the He valve :-)
that blue looks great!!!!!
Man, you are excited about these!
Great Review. I love the blue version
great video....!!! does the steel bracelet pinch wrist hair
yeah i saw the liquid metal today it looks great, thanks and keep up the great videos!
Hi Ariel, you have forgotten to mention that the Liquidmetal model has a Titanium Case and Buckle and is it a Limited Edition? If so, how many have been made? Amazingly looking watches, do they still come in the red leather box or have they finally gone with a wooden one?
I have the blue one just like yours. But mine doesn't say liquidmetals on the back.do you think it's a replica ?
I understand man I am looking at buying a certain planet ocean its the old one tho I am saving for it now. Its like the only Omega I want.
Nice review of a great watch
really helpful video, very in depth look at 2 very nice watches!
@Nicool333 small to medium sized.

Hello, any opinions on the older version of the planet ocean with the black bezel?
I'm going to get that in a few days.
It would be good to get a head up about any positives or negative.
Thanks
H2 is hydrogen... not helium. On the side of your watch it says He for helium.
+towert7
H is hydrogen, 2 is the nr of molecules :)
Thanks for the review. I was at a boutique and was looking at the two; and I think for the extra 2k, very light feel, and the blue color, the liquidmetal wasn't worth it. Great review ! What is Your wrist size my friend ? Do You look bigger than Daniel Craig ??
Im close to buying the planet ocean 8500. But im really curious about the next versions of the planet oceans. If planet ocean came 2005 and calibre 8500 came 2011. Next version will maybe come 2017?
the cal. 8500 isnt technically in-house but a co-lab with brands under swatch group
I was falling madly in love with this watch as the clip went on until it reached the point when you talked price!! What size wrist do you have? That's always important for our perspective.
Did you have it fix? I'm curious. Thanks for the reply, I thought it was only mine and it bothered me for days since this was my first luxury watch.
Really enjoyed this review. Nicely done. Thank you.
New PO or old PO? Going to pull the trigger on one of these this weekend - Is the new one worth the extra $1500?
Well, we can tell the difference for sure. Think of your replica watch as a teaser for the real thing.
Thanks....
if you had to chose between this sea master and the last bond watch which would you chose Ariel?
When will you post the review with photos on the blog? or am i clumsy and cant find it?
Great review....thank you very much.
Cool review.Amazing watch.
Yes, bezel on mine is also misaligned... with about 1/3 seconds.
Very good, cool review. There is fantastic film about Liquid Metal on ... yes UA-cam ;-)
Great review ! Thanks
This watch (8500) is so much better looking than the new one (8900). I think Omega ruined the PO with the new one.
Rolex wins by marketing. Personally I think the Omega seamaster is of better quality but Rolex has better value because of their marketing.
@AMRonin I agree that it is priced a bit too high, I think 5k would be appropriate. However, please don't compare a TAG aquaracer to this fine piece, that is comparing apples to oranges.
what is your take on the omega seamaster professional 300m chronometre model considering the fact that it does not have an inhouse omega movement
