I am vegan for 25 years, I live minimally, but zero waste is hard, because of the way the companies package items, almost makes it impossible for me, but I try

RIGHT! It's crazy how we have to jump through hoops in order to find products that aren't wrapped in plastic all the time. It's beyond impossible in my area, even the damn cucumbers are wrapped in plastic. Very sad and I hope things change one day not just for us but for the environment.

Don't ever take down your old videos. It's so good to see how far you've come and what you have learned! Don't ever be ashamed of old content. That's what the past is for. So we can learn. Also, I think that buying less, even though it is not in zero waste packaging, can still be considered low waste. Do what you can. Durability and long life use is what matters. As a vegan, I still think it is more eco-friendly to buy something in leather (if you REALLY need it) that will last you decades than to buy some crappy faux-leather that you have to throw out in 2 years because it falls apart. Thinking things through instead of adhering to rigid set rules can sometimes do more for the environment and for the health of the Earth. Keep up the good work, Kyra!

The thing with zero waste is that so few can attain it , if we could get everyone to put just 10% less in the trash it is far more effective than 1% of population attaining zero waste

I am trying so hard to buy in a minimal way… I’m trying to use the beauty supply that I have rather than stocking up. Stocking up is a hard habit for me to break…. Also I hate that as a woman you have to try different things to see what works on your face, then you waste money when you hate it lol

You said some very important things. I wish people, especially those "looking in from the outside", would understand more that at the end of the day minimalists are individuals and that there are no set rules, like only wearing black or white (which is almost funny, the fact that I'm mostly wearing black is beside the point, I just look my best in black, okay 😂)

Great advise! I was falling for some of those lies too and it was overwhelming me more, thinking that “i cant own more than X amount of items”, “I will never be a minimalist” etc, at the end is living with what you need, and “needs” vary from person to person, it is very personal, we can see someone else as a guide, but it’s so personal 😊, I also like a lot of colors in clothes, just making sure that they kind of match so I don’t look like a clown 😂! The neutral tones in decoration, I love it, but it’s because it keeps my mind calm! 😊 I enjoy your videos so much! Thanks for sharing!

This video is great! It is exactly what I've been saying. I have clothes and shoes. If I had 3 outfits, I'd have to do laundry 3 times a week. How wasteful! And if I had 1 pair of shoes, I'd have those shoes worn out so fast and then would have to buy more.
It used to bother me that I couldn't be zero-waste. Now I realize, it is unrealistic in the town I live in.
My minimalism and veganism are unrelated; they have nothing to do with each other.
I totally understand you wanting to buy the world for your cat. I did the same for my first child. My first child was a girl. I bought matching dresses, booties, hair bows. And all kinds of toys.
Stress does still exist with minimalism. I WISH minimalism solved all your problems. But I have a lot of stress that is unrelated to minimalism. It's like dieting; some people think if they lose 50 pounds, all their problems will be solved. But there are problems in our lives that are unrelated to dieting & weight loss.
I love color. Some minimalists say to get rid of all color, or only have 1 color & 1 neutral. Well, guess what? I have all colors in my life. ❤ 💙 💛 🧡 💜 💚
You asked what is the biggest lie we've been told about minimalism. My answer: "We need to get rid of everything." But we need to use our own judgment and not be pressured into getting rid of anything.
Don't get me wrong, it is good to get rid of unnecessary excess stuff that doesn't bring us joy. But some minimalists have gone way too far. And if you read minimalist books, beware, because a lot of them tell you to get rid of everything. The best minimalist book to read, I think, is the Chicken Soup for the Soul minimalist book. It doesn't give advice, it just has a lot of small inspirational stories about how/why people became a minimalist. For example, there's an American woman living in Japan because her husband was transferred there, and she had a tiny living quarters, so she was forced to become a minimalist and she loved it because it was less stressful, so when she came back to the USA, she kept the lifestyle. So it's ok to downsize, just be careful and don't get of stuff unnecessarily.
One more thing, as far as owning 1 of something. If I have 2 can openers, for example, I will keep both, because one will eventually break, and then I would have to buy another one. So we use common sense, wisdom, and intelligence when making decisions.

Cats need variability in their toys. Even if you have little amount toys to him you need to rotate them. But some of them away and leave some. After couple of weeks take those in the cabinet and change them with the exixting ones toys. Rotate rotate rotate. Of course you need to buy some sometimes. But sometimes piece of paper just works.

    Hi kyra ,
    Great vlog 😊
    I’m a minimalist,
If I buy something & fetch it home 🏡
I place it somewhere in my house eg: picture frame 🖼️
Then a move it 10 times as it causes me anxiety 😥
Then I take it to charity shop as I can’t have it collecting dust & im same with everything in life !
Everything I own has to be clean too ,
    And organised 😮
Does milo bother your plants ?

Nice Video :) the biggest lie i heard that the most on youtube says you became happy if you are minimalist. i am minimalist also i do it because i like less stuff and its easy to clean and i know where and which stuff is in my house. But i am not feeling happy because of minimalism. I unfollow a couple of minimalist on youtube because they talk about minimalism but they try to sell in every youtube video stuff or apps to viewers i dislike that. if its now and then sponsorship then its oke but some do every single video try people buy them stuff or apps ,

      @Living.minimal  Рік тому +1

Yea I get what you're saying Naomi and your right about the whole false happiness. It has never made me happy like how some people describe your still going to have good or bad days whether your a minimalist or not. But I also see the other side of the spectrum when it comes to sponsorships. For example in order to keep UA-cam or any social media platform as a fulltime you kind of have to do brand deals because adsense doesn't pay much nowadays. Take it from me I never ever do sponsorships and lately I make around $700 to $900 a month with adsense (keeps going down monthly) THAT'S IT!!
That's my total income these days and it's not easy especially when trying to pay for rent and other bills. I watch a lot of youtubers who promote things in every video, I just simply skip the ad. That's the beauty of youtube, you don't necessarily have to buy what that person is selling. I personally have screwed myself over big time when it comes to my income because I was always terrified of viewers like yourself that simply hate ads and will choose to unscribe just from a person trying to pay bills just like the rest of us. When you do this job for a living you see things a lot differently, especially when it comes to trying to make ends meet these days.
Sorry to go on a rant but like I said these are the comments I was always afraid back then when it came to working with brands and I always said to myself " if I take a sponsorship for every video people will unsub and won't find me relatable anymore." Me thinking like this has ruined my income for the past 3 years and I just wish some people would give influencers/content creators a little more grace.

@@Living.minimal good to know yes I understand if you want to do youtube full time that you need more sponsorships. I'm glad you explained it now it's clear.
it's annoying for you that you don't earn that much yet, maybe that will come
but you make nice content so keep it up.

I don't like videos about how many items sb owns. It often is ridiculous because people list things I feel most of us own only one or things a lot of us don't have at all. Your was a lot better, a usual, but I won't cry that you resigned from making more content like that. 😂

Haha, yea glad I learned! It's crazy how so many people tend to judge you more when you become a minimalist. I remember when I owned a small couch and people would ask me "why do you own a couch as a minimalist when you can just use pillows to sit on? thats not very minimalist of you. It's crazy to look back and to realize how judged I was and how judgy I was to others.
