I think the negativity mostly comes from the people who love the original series so much, they just put the nostalgia goggles on and misjudge this, because of how highly they hold the original. I mean, I am a major fan of the original Only Fools and Horses and it can't be topped, it's a classic, but I can't really discredit this show or the actors in it because of that. Again, the original can't be topped nor can any other interpretation come that close to it, the performances from the original actors are unique (therefore making the characters unique) and because of that, they are very hard if not impossible to recreate, but the effort is there. They're not copying them, but they are trying to hold on to the spirit the original had. The same can be said for the performance of the songs. @Stay Classy other comments on this video have said that this is the o opening segment to the show, so yes, I can tell you otherwise. And yes I am fun at parties. Sorry for expressing an opinion on something that differs from your own. Being a long time fan of a show that's been around for decades, I have preconceptions of how I'd like it to be if I'm to enjoy it. Some of it doesn't seem to conform to that, therefore I don't have to enjoy it. If you enjoy it that's fine but don't jump down my throat for picking up on something that I find to be a fault with it compared to the original series.
@Stay Classy like I said to you, it doesn't have to be exact, yes I'd picked up on the cigarette case story but I could let that slide for the sake of artistic interpretation. Similarly with the back and forth between Rodney and Trigger, which was from the same episode when they're at the council meeting, which also never took place in the market. However grandad and Cassandra never met, so that grandad would be aware of her in this is just the artistic licence going too far in my opinion. Changing settings I can deal with, changing the history I don't like.
@Stay Classy I had to watch it in the first instance to see if I'd like it or not. Why shouldn't I comment if I'm not keen on something? I have seen the show, and this is the worst bit, which is basically the beginning. It's too forced and cringey for me, as though they want the audience having a knees up and a sing sing from the start, without any warm up...its really odd and strained. .However It really picks up after the opening five minutes, and is funny and touching. I highly recommend for any fans of the show.

The woman playing Cassandra looks a replica of her in 1989!!!! The rest of the cast were good too however Del Boy could have done with a bit more rehearsal tho and Grandad sounds a bit more like Albert than in the original show. Overall tho I'll be honest and say I'd rather watch Jolly Boys outing than go up west for an arm and leg price to watch this. (No pun intended XD)
I went and saw this recently in London, I honestly loved it, it can’t match the original but it’s still pretty decent and Paul whitehouse is almost perfect as Uncle
This really wasn't that bad as far as tributes and impressions go. They clearly put in a fair amount of effort to make them look and sound like the characters which is nice.
The impressions are quite good but you just cant David Jason, Leonard Pearce, Nick Lyndhurst and co...they were quality and John Sullivan was an absolute genius.
Mister E yeah but half of them are dead now. Unless you want to dig them up and put them on stage. What a stupid thing to say. If you're going to cost for a presentation, certainly a big one in the West End, you've got to cast actors and actresses and people who can perform in a musical. You can't just dig up dead actors and put them on stage because they happen to be the ones on the BBC program. That's like saying the original actor who played The Phantom of the Opera is better or worse than the one who played it be New York 3 years ago.
I don't understand the negative comments. Take it for what it is, a musical tribute to a great show, a lot of fun and very well done. Lighten up folks.

Billie Piper’s Teeth do you mean the BBC show, or the West End musical? Because as for the BBC show, that was a masterpiece. Even if you didn't enjoy that then there's something wrong with you. And if you didn't enjoy the West End show, then I guess that's up to you, but I thought that it was pretty good. What night did you go to the musical?
I mean the stage show and all episodes of the BBC show from 1989 onwards with the the exception of Danger UXD and Chain Gang. I didn’t go to see the musical. It looks absolutely awful and doesn’t work. I’m simply not interested.
Why are people ao mad about this i loved it nothing will ever compare to the actual show but comeone no can say that when the charcters spoke you didnt think about how good the show was cause thats what its doing the musical is bringing the tv show back to life and i love this for that
The miserable comments here are shocking. I hate people. This was delightful and lots of fun, it'll not compare to the original but it doesn't have too, it is nostalgic and funny and still to a high quality. If you don't try to compare it and enjoy it for what it is, a tribute - then it's class.
Stuart Smith they did use a script, written by Richard Sullivan. It was rewritten for the theatre, however it was based on his ideas. Because he always wanted to do a theatre and Tour show. So they made the stage show to honour him. Did you not enjoy any of the rest of the production? I thought the songs were quite well written, and the cast were amazing, but there you go.

I do agree in a way that some things should be left as originals but in my opinion, it works, and it just brings it back for people, I thought they pulled off the characters very well!! 👍🏻
Anything that isn't an American remake is fine by me.
ah honour indeed, it was never expected to be so good
This is beyond DIRE. Del Boy and Rodney can only be played by David Jason and Nick Lyndhurst
😂😂😂 brilliant. Always loved Paul Whitehouse’s comedy
great tribute to an iconic show. Bravo
I watched it on Wednesday and it was fantastic, funny and a great laugh. They got so many funny bits Into the show. Well worth a watch.
Saw this yesterday at Theatre Royal, absolutely brilliant.
should have got Gary to come from the van and say "GARY!" right at the end
I have seen the show, and this is the worst bit, which is basically the beginning. It's too forced and cringey for me, as though they want the audience having a knees up and a sing sing from the start, without any warm up...its really odd and strained.
.However It really picks up after the opening five minutes, and is funny and touching. I highly recommend for any fans of the show.
100% Agree with you! The first 5/10 minutes of the show I wasn't overly impressed by! but from about 15 mins into it It really gets going!
Saw the show yesterday, brilliant, pulled it off loved every minute of it
Saw this recently in London and I laughed as much as I did with the series.
Didn't expect to enjoy this but saw a clip and then that made me watch this - it looks good!
Del Boy sounds foreign here at times.
*singalexsong* It's because his french is still not on point 🤣
From what I’ve seen of this, it’s seems great and as a tribute to the greatest tv show that’s ever graced our screen it seems one of the best to all the negative people who say it’s dreadful after watching this 5 minute clip, yes I get it’s not David Jason but it never was gonna be and no one can beat his role as Del it’s iconic and DJ made Del into a national treasure.
Love it , seeing it tonight
How was it 😊
@@francesshead6525 it was good worth seeing
this is amazing
The 80s had some amazing theme tunes.
Go and see the show. It is very good.
I was like...meh...then they started singing and I’ve had this on repeat the last hour 😅😅
2:33 some half-price crack 🤣
Went to see the musical it was hilarious and amazing definitely recommend it
I had to look twice at Uncle Albert as I thought he was still alive.
This is genius on the original characters.
My mother in law has just got me tickets for this i didnt want to be rude but it will never never be the real thing but really good effort im kind of looking forward to it
Thank god for covid 19 then
Good lord, at least pick a Del Boy that can do a cockney accent 😩
Its supposed to be a tribute / celebration of Only Fools if you don't compare it to the original you'll be ok 😉😉😉
Found my self reading comments agreeing but your right just a tribute
Exactly
sadly. most of us do, but it is good
I went, took the family... we all loved it. It may well just be "cashing in" but was thoroughly enjoyable night.
I'm Going To See Only Fools And Horses The West End Hit Musical At London's Theatre Royal Haymarket This Year. Thanks Mate. X
That’s a good Trigger lol
The woman playing Cassandra looks a replica of her in 1989!!!! The rest of the cast were good too however Del Boy could have done with a bit more rehearsal tho and Grandad sounds a bit more like Albert than in the original show.
Overall tho I'll be honest and say I'd rather watch Jolly Boys outing than go up west for an arm and leg price to watch this. (No pun intended XD)
Grandad and Albert are the same actor. Paul Whitehouse. I think hes the director or something also. Great character actor.
You’d need a bloody compass to find up west
I went and saw this recently in London, I honestly loved it, it can’t match the original but it’s still pretty decent and Paul whitehouse is almost perfect as Uncle
This really wasn't that bad as far as tributes and impressions go. They clearly put in a fair amount of effort to make them look and sound like the characters which is nice.
simply incredible and nostalgic
I didn't know del boy was from Bristol
fonly fools was filmed in bristol well some nit all obviously ... i believe the flats were in bristol too haha
@@Dam0n11 the flats were down in Ashton next to the city ground I believe I live in Bristol
@@Dam0n11 Was it?! No way lol x
Utterly brilliant !!!
Is it me , or does this come across as just some enthusiastic amateurs putting on a fan tribute show at the local community center ?
That's exactly how it comes across! :)
Yep
True a performance like this should be confined to community centres
Lol! Yes. It's pathetic
Couldn't have put it better myself!!
I want to gouge out my eardrums and eyes. Leave this classic alone. Please😀
@@RB747domme have you deliberately missed the point of my comment or are you stupid by accident?
Is that New man from Phoneshop 😂
I got to admit l'd love to see this live , looks great 👍
I don't understand the negative comments. Take it for what it is, a musical tribute to a great show, a lot of fun and very well done. Lighten up folks.
Love this musical, love Paul Whitehouse playing grandad, reminds me of his other character unlucky Alf from the fast show! Brill!
Throwaway comment for anyone whos reading, I've seen this in the west end and this is the opening scenes of OFAH The Musical and its not great, but around 15 minutes into the show it really gets going and is a right laugh! - The Online Dating Musical Scene had me in stitches!
I’m sorry, but it just doesn’t work.
Only fools and horses work
That was awful I'm sorry lol
Still funnier than anything in this show.
This is just amazing
I was actually wanting to see this but thanks to this clip I will save my money. looks absolute rubbish
Have some respect
@@Sam-pn2kc it's just his opinion mate
I've changed my mind also. Slightly disappointing.
@@Sam-pn2kc respect would be not creating this shit show .
Saw it you missed a gem
Omg I love only fools and horses ❤️❤️❤️ (is it wasn’t rlly them but good effort!! )
❤️
That was brilliant. Great impressions. Mickey, Boycie, Trigger, the lot. I hope they do it for DVD so I can watch over and over
Why are people ao mad about this i loved it nothing will ever compare to the actual show but comeone no can say that when the charcters spoke you didnt think about how good the show was cause thats what its doing the musical is bringing the tv show back to life and i love this for that
Is this the same guy that did The Office musical for comic relief? 😂
I love this act so much
Take a sip every time Rodney crosses his arms
I'm hammered
They even use a real Trotter van on stage 👍🏼
The miserable comments here are shocking. I hate people.
This was delightful and lots of fun, it'll not compare to the original but it doesn't have too, it is nostalgic and funny and still to a high quality. If you don't try to compare it and enjoy it for what it is, a tribute - then it's class.
It's still funny but I still love the original trigger best
Fantastic....love it
“Half price crack” 😂😂
Cracked ice actually! XD
Yeah from a mush in shepherd s bush bush bush
Just got back from the west end absolutely brilliant show it’s a tribute to the original and a nice trip down memory lane
I agree. It is uncomfortable to watch. Especially the 'Dave' sketch. It seemed like lazy writing and a poor version of an original gem.
I kind of like that Grandad references Cassandra even though obviously he died before she was on the scene. It's like a chance for him to posthumously acknowledge his granddaughter in law. It's just nice, is what I'm saying 🤷♂️
