Thanks fella. Bought an 18" depth Ground Hog rental trencher from Home Depot. They retail for $4K but I got it for $705 with a new chain (good guy at that store helped me out, and if you do buy this type of equipment always ask for their $ leeway). However, the maintenance guys are hit or miss-usually miss as I have bought a lot of equipment. I do detect a bit of oil burning, but, in addition to that, what I ended up with was...a clogged pilot jet. I cleaned the carb to what I thought was "enough." It wasn't. Still hunted at idle. So, as per your instructions, I pulled the pilot jet, and it was filthy. So, I cleaned it with this that and the other thing and at one point I doubted whether there even was a vertical orifice (there is). Luckily, I have the welders' orifice "probes and slowly twisted it up and through into the horizontal opening. Note: Must be careful not to use too large diameter probe because you will open up the jet too much. Any time you purchase rental equipment you must do your due diligence. Research the manufacturer. Know all the specs and make friends (tip them on the side as HD does not pay well) and be sure to run the piece before you giddily run off with your new toy. Your advice was perfect, except for the fact that there is an orifice on the bottom half of the jet (I found it with a jeweler lighted magnifier. Note: There is not a vertical passage (orifice) on the top half of the jet.
I just went back and rewatched the video, didn't find where I said the top, I just said "on the end" when showing the bottom. Anyway glad you found it and it worked for you.
Thanks this helped a lot. I have Firman 3550W generator, it revved up and down on idle, worked fine under load. It has same style plastic screw on carburetor top and it worked out just like in this video. Now it purrs steady on idle.
