    Check your phosphates, cut back on light hours. Along with some turbo snails.

    You can also look up ways to get rid of the hair algea or what eats it

  • @MiguelVargas-b4t
    @MiguelVargas-b4t 2 місяці тому

    The reason for the algea is high nutrients or to bright of light do a water change and dim the light enough to where the corals are still happy and let it slowly progress through its stages

    Dude ur right were u need to b. All this is part of the tank maturing. As for the algae. Use a toothbrush on the rocks. Gently brush away. May take some time but it’s worth it. Welcome to the saltwater family

    If I remember correctly you used tap water, if that’s right switch to RO water. Urchin will help a ton too

    Emerald crabs might help. Really you need to focus on reducing nitrate/phophate and keep the tank stable.
    Maintain salinity, make sure your pH is correct, everything else you can ignore until you have more corals.

    @kevin8360 2 місяці тому +1

    Due to the deaths, you probably had a nitrate spike… which will contribute to more algae.
    Nitrates are good, when in balance with phosphates. Try for a 100 nitrate to 1 phosphate ratio. You never want to bottom either, or you’ll get slime or dinos.
    Ideally: 5-10 nitrate and 0.05-0.10 phosphate, IMO.
    When those two are in balance, it minimizes algae growth, while still being able to feed corals well.
    Without knowing the phosphate levels, adjusting your nitrate levels is irrelevant. I’ve been over 25 nitrate, without algae problems.

    mexican turbo snails will absolutely devour the hair algae!

    If you want to battle the green hair algae naturally. You can get a Sea hare (Dolabella Auricularia). This animal only eats long hair algae types. It needs algae to survive; otherwise it will die. Maybe you can get one from your LFS and bring it back when it's finished (it takes a couple of days).

      Going to do some research on this thank you!

  • @knox7945
    @knox7945 2 місяці тому

    The animals will not eat the hair algae if it is too much.
    Sea urchins does do the trick, but you shouldn't rely on them all the time.
    Water change every week about 10%-20% and then test your water the next day to see if theres any difference.
    Scrub off algaes off the rocks with a brush

  • @justinc3844
    @justinc3844 2 місяці тому

    step one test the tank adjust the levels to ideal range, step two cleanup crew via Mexican turbos, tuxedo urchins, or a sea hare , hermits of different variety and maybe a algae blenny as others stated and you should be on your way to some success

    Just get yourself a tooth brush or some sort of bristle brush and scrub the hair algae off while doing a water change. Easy peasy

    Toothbrush and just scrub the rock to get it clean. Do that a few weeks in a row with good water changes and you will clean it right up. Just feed every 2 days and just enough for the fish to eat.

    Get the Salifert Test Kits I bet ur Phosphate and Nitrate Levels are High ! Besides you just going through “the ugly stage” at this time is when Most of the people QUIT cause u gotta be ON TOP OF THE TANK 10% water changes WEEKLY ( 3gals 1/2 ) and keep your parameters as close possible to this:
    Temperature 76 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit
    Specific Gravity 1.023 to 1.025
    pH 8.2 to 8.4
    Ammonia 0 ppm
    Nitrite 0 ppm
    Nitrate < 10 ppm
    Alkalinity 8 and 13 ₫KH
    Calcium 400 and 450 ppm
    Magnesium 1200 and 1320 ppm
    Phosphate 0 ppm
    lodine 0.5 to 0.8 ppm
    Iron 0.1 to 0.3 ppm
    The 1st year IS GOING TO BE FULL OF UP’S AND DOWNS ! Don’t Quit ! Your hard work will be rewarded! Trust me

      @@ethangodoy9218if u willing to “upgrade” the test kits go with Hanna I got a guy on Mercari that sells them more affordable than Amazon/BRS etc and they’re brand new, more accurate and give u the right numbers digitally, you should make or share ur ig for those like me that want to help you through this journey 🙂 ur tank may be the same age as mine. Also there’s an app for android/apple to track your water changes/parameters that helps A LOT to keep track of everything! Please keep uploading content 🤩

    Keep pulling out algae as you do consistent water changes, make sure your nutrients don’t bottom out, and time will take care of the rest. My first reef tank looked like dog poop for 18 months. This hobby ain’t for everyone.
