  • I just hit 100k miles on my 2015 Chevy Sonic LT. This reviews all the repairs I needed up to that point, none of which required a towing. So far, this car has been very reliable and solid!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
NEW UPDATE 150K Video: • Chevy Sonic 150,000 MI...
Some repairs I HAVE needed include changing the alternator, the thermostat, the ignition coil pack and the window regulator.

My 2015 LS just turned over to 90,000 this month - I love that car so much. I’ve put almost 60,000 miles on it since buying it and never missed an oil change, tire rotation, etc and so far the only thing I’ve needed done was replacing the thermostat housing after having a very slow coolant leak. The beautiful thing about the LS is I don’t have to worry about the window motor going out 😂

I had a 2004 Chevy Aveo, put 350k miles on it, then sold it. Was still running great. Orig. Motor and auto trans, no issues. The only time it broke down was when the upper radiator hose thermostat housing cracked.. best, most reliable car I ever had

Unfortunately I have had nothing but costly repairs on my 2015 Sonic. Bought it brand new! All sorts of weird issues, all after warranty expired. Repeated problems with the cooling system the top and bottom plastic manifold have exploded 3 times, replace the antifreeze overflow twice, I've had to replace the PCV valve cover three times, I've spent over $5,000 in repairs not happy with the Chevy Sonic Turbo LTZ and probably will never buy a Chevy again. I think I got a lemon.

I'm with you, it was like the car was falling apart, I traded mine in for a Toyota corolla SE, never again will I ever buy another Sonic, and probably never buy a chevy ever again, my brother bought a Silverado, it was always in the shop, and on my Sonic, and his Silverado both started after the warranty ran out.

i own a 2013 Sonic LT 1.8ltr. Just hit 54,000 miles mostly because I ride a motorcycle a lot. So far had to replace the seal and gasket on the oil cooler mounted to the back side of the catalytic converter. Had to replace the boot between the air box and throttle body (might want to check and see if yours is split too). Am waiting for a little warm up to replace the thermostat as got a check engine light code for that problem. Agree with all of your comments on how good the car has been to me as well.

Got a 2014 sonic lt a while ago because it was about the only car that I could find in my price range under 100k miles and no major issues. Only issue I've had so far is that my radiator fan stopped working, but that was just because the fuse went.

Nice review. I have a 2013 LT with the 1.3 manual 6 sp. w/120,000 miles. It has been a very good car overall. The fit and finish have been a little suspect though. The shaft on my gearshift broke costing $400, and various plastics in the cabin have broken. I'd still recommend it as a fun-to-drive, dependable econobox.

My 2014 sonic has the squeaky noise too when I drive. I just dropped it off at the shop but I didn’t know what it was and explained to the mechanic it was squeaking a lot. Hopefully they fix that. Also my car has 98,900 miles on it and it also feels like something is missing when I start it up sometimes. They have changed both O2 sensors and the check engine light will pop up every other day or so and turn off within 2 mintues. I’ve taken it in 4 times In the past month. I hope they find out what’s wrong.
Update: there was a small leak that was connected to my turbo from what I was told. It was fixed, check engine light off. Now 2 months later check engine light came on and have to get my catalytic converter replaced 🤦‍♀️

I bought a 2014 with a 1.8 L two years ago with about 60,000 miles. Initially I had some minor coolant leaks which were hard to find. The dealer replaced the water pump but it still had leaks. Bottom line, wound up replacing the thermostat assembly with an all-metal housing and a couple other coolant lines and everything is fine now. Latest problem is engine is intermittently skipping at 800 rpm in gear. No check engine light but my mechanic thinks it's the coil. Can anyone give me a ballpark on what the part would cost?

2015 LT 1.8 with 70k miles and has been a headache since getting it in late 2019 with 45 on it. Love the car but the misfiring and sputtering has plagued me a lot of late. Was told to get the ECM reset and the dealer just no sold my request and offered baseline interval services instead so I took it elsewhere for those but still have had a tough time. Replaced coil pack, plugs, alternator, throttle body and fuel injector flush, O2 upstream and valve cover, trans flush (66k mi), coolant temp sensor, still dealing with inconsistency which makes me dread having to use it for my commute to work each week.

@@jazzyjez Whether it's worth the money is up to you, no one else.. for me, I want to keep my car so even if it's $2 or 3K to repair or replace CVT, I'd rather pay that.. a new car, especially one that is reliable and low mileage will cost a lot more than that. I think you'll get at least 100K more miles out of this; the engine is solid. Do you know the cost of the repair? And would you have to buy a new car with financing or cash?

@@vanpocalypse3529 the cost is around 4K in my area. 3K sounds reasonable, I would consider it more if it was 4K. I just dont understand at this time and age why CVTs are so expensive since they are disposible transmissions. They should be cheaper to replace

@@jazzyjez yeah, that's pricey.. but if you get that taken care of, it will increase the value of the car so if you decide to get a new one later, you can sell it. Very tough decision.. when that day comes for me, I'm already planning on keeping it and changing the CVT.. I would like to get as close to 300K miles as I can.

My 2014 is a piece of junk. I've spent thousands in repairs just to fix it from stalling on idle and nothing is working. I can't wait to get something different and I will never buy any GM in the future. It has caused me nothing but pain.
